OMGosh the tale of what that poor girl went through in December. He is brazen and if you ask me you don't go from holding a young girl in an apartment to doing that on a public trail. He has had some practice. There are more victims....

I agree with you. I think there will be several, time will tell, but IF we are right, how sad that he has been able to evade LE and these poor girls pay the price.

Hundreds of volunteers showed up this morning at a search center behind a Citibank off Bernardo Center Drive, eager to help in the efforts to locate the teen. Law enforcement officials gathered them into groups and assigned them various locales to comb.

The "aggressive ongoing search" will continue for "the foreseeable future," sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Caldwell told reporters during a late-afternoon briefing near the lake.

The teams were contending with dense brush, heavy reeds, large rocks and snakes, according to Caldwell.

"They're going slowly for safety but also slowly to make sure they cover every square inch," she said.

Gloria Kendall, 55, of Escondido was part of a team of about 20 people who searched an undeveloped area off Espola Road in Poway. They looked through heavy foliage and around ponds, Kendall said.

"They tagged a shirt and some bones," she added.

Carlos Lindsey, a 53-year-old San Diegan, has helped search swamps, orchards and hillsides over the last three days. He called the turnout "unbelievable for a Monday."

Dive teams, meanwhile, waded and swam through the shallows of Lake Hodges (Map D). An FBI dive team from Los Angeles used sonar to look for evidence.

"We're hoping with this technology it will make finding Chelsea faster," the sheriff's spokeswoman said.

I wonder if criminals always keep the same pattern?  In the one he was convicted for, he didn't drive the victim to a remote location. He took her to his home. If he followed the same pattern with this one,  it could be possible that he parked near a trail head, and took Chelsea from there. It doesn't explain why her panties were found there unless he put them there on purpose, in the lake. If he's been offending in plain sight for years, seems like a risky move to assault her for more than  a few minutes right there near trails,  I hope he didn't plant evidence to misdirect the search.    With the FBI involved, surely they can figure him and his nasty mindset out.

Hey folks - a noob to this site.

Just wanted to post as a Poway parent with kids at Poway High in band with Chelsea.

I have seen posts wanting a change in laws.  Here are two I think need to be considered -

1) If you knowingly house a registered sex offender for more than 4 days a year you should have to report it to local law enforcement, or be considered an accessory to their evasion of registration laws;

2) Sex offenders like Gardner should be subject to mandatory Chemical Castration if they choose to reside in California.  Chemical castration is not castration but instead is the administration of drugs that dampen libido.  The effects aren't permanent but effective at making these cretins more passive.  Of course, the ACLU opposes it as "cruel and unusual punishment" without any basis - all the more reason to support the idea.

I agree with your thoughts on sex offenders except that often rape is about power and not sex so castration (chemical or otherwise) often doesn't solve the problem. 

Good point.  Rape is often about power.  I wonder how much of that "power" need stems from testosterone.

Also, if you look at Gardner, he appears to have an unusually thick neck like a weight lifter.  Could he be on steroids?

Maybe Gardner has ties to the military, semper fidelis, maybe, maybe not, he has a big white truck in his driveway but doesnt look like it has any stickers on it.

That walmart molester, he kind of looks hispanic and a little bit shorter, like 5'6, I can't even zoom in, I have a magnifying glass lol,  I should try it. There are so many sex offenders and there are a lot that look like the walmart molester, and then you got gardner and he looks like 3 different people.
