Thinking out loud here. The guy gets paroled Sept 2008 and moves to Rock Springs Road. 6 months later Amber disappears. At some point he is living with his G Mom. They search his Mom's house and G Moms house, and concentrate on the shed (per neighbor)

Neighbor in Lake E says he was always doing things around the house. Putting up shelves, working in the attic....*check that attic

Classmates react to Poway teen's disappearance

POWAY, Calif. - Students at Poway High School have been struggling with strong emotions and uncertainty since the disappearance of their classmate, Chelsea King, last Thursday.

Principal Scott Fischer said it is the worst crisis he's ever had to deal with.

"There are kids who are sad. There are kids who are angry. There are kids who don't know how to deal with the unknown," Fisher said. "There are kids who need attention, and so we're trying to provide what we can for everybody including staff."

The Poway High School senior Heidi Leininger left school Monday afternoon to post blue ribbons on trees around town with classmates as reminders of hope in finding Chelsea King.

"I just can't imagine what her family is going through right now," she said, sobbing. "All of Poway High is really really missing her right now," she added.

"This was a shock to all of us," said senior Cassie Clough. "We weren't expecting any of this, especially Chelsea. She's such an amazing person."

"She's a straight A student, awesome girl, athlete obviously, cross country," said junior Jack Millard. "She did cross country, and she did volleyball, I think it was. She was just really involved in our school and just loved it all."

Chelsea also lead students in peer counseling, her friends said.

"She was open, she was funny, she loved talking to people," said junior Fifi Akel. "She was the type of person who would sit down and she could have a conversation with you and you wouldn't feel awkward."

The school's entire student body wore blue Monday as a show of solidarity. Students said they plan on wearing orange, Chelsea's favorite color, on Tuesday.

From Northern's article.   William Halsey, Gardner’s attorney in the 2000 case, said yesterday it was “a struggle” to persuade Gardner to take the plea. Halsey said he remembered that someone had referred Gardner’s mother to him at the time, and she paid his legal bills.  And mark my words this mother will defend this creature and pay for all his bills. I'm so upset over all this that I can't even see straight. 

He also "molested a 13-year-old girl in his mother’s Rancho Bernardo townhouse", she found him an attorney, she paid for the attorney, she still lives in said townhouse ...not saying more about how I feel about his mother right now         

I totally understand that, and I will bet money after the attack on Dec 27 with that young 22 year old, mom turned her back when she saw the injuries on him with what the girl did to him.

It looks like the SDPD had DNA in December - the same DNA that they say now links Gardner to both the December attack and Chelsea.

Candice’s sister, a senior at Rancho Bernardo High School, wrote an editorial in the school paper last week about the ordeal, saying police swabbed Candice’s elbow for DNA evidence in hopes of getting a hit.

Police did not disclose what evidence was obtained in the case nor if any tests were conducted.

Someone please explain to me why this is not a scandal.  Why couldn't they have run the DNA in December and taken Gardner into custody then?  Or did they run the DNA and determine that DNA alone was not enough?  If it was a bad and inconclusive sample in December, why is it good enough to link the crimes now?

What I find odd, he had been at his mothers for a while although he had another place, maybe 2 others...Why was he hanging out with mom? Does anyone feel that perhaps he went back to the trail to finish what he started? Does anyone know if Chelsea resembles the December jogger? Why did he go back to the same place and do the same thing if he failed prior? Thinking as a crazy person would, maybe he needed to get this done. Maybe he didn't like to fail and needed to have his fantacy played out?

Sorry about this question, but if he put her in water, wouldn't they have found a body floating by now. He could have dumped her or he buried her. Anyone know when trash is picked up in that area? Are there any dumpsters close by? did they search the dumpsters at the townhomes he lived at?
