Infrastructure damage is VERY hard to undo. Power companies are extremely specialized in what they do. It is not the easiest thing in the world to mobilize what is needed to fix a BIG outage with physical damage.

Electricity is something we all take for granted WAY too much, until we lose it for any length of time.

Yep. If one is gonna live in the boonies one needs to be prepared and not count on anyone to come to the rescue.

I agree, up to a point.  I have access to heat that does not require electriticy, etc.  However, I do think one has somewhat of a reasonable expectation of not being without power for such an extended time.

And I would think most any legit org could set utility poles.  That is not very specialized.  At some point, FEMA should kick in and be able to do something.

Oh, I forgot.  They only tell people to run, run fast!!   Rolling Eyes

.

Well, there are those things known as portable generators, some of which run on Nat Gas and some on Propane.

I invested in a snow blower and a Feguson TO20 tractor when I lived in the boonies, now a days I'd spend the money on a generator.

Heck I'm considering getting one pretty soon anyway to run my web servers in case I lose power around here in another ice storm.

Carnut - I can't believe you!  lol  I know you know these people aren't asking for handouts.  My point is that our media features Donald and Rosie... I know it's all about rating.  Boonies!  ha... some of these towns have 15,000 people in them.

He's from Vermont and has 2 prior assaults.  They didn't go to court because they didn't want to traumitize the boy.  But what about when this boy grows up?  How many more kids is he going to molest!  Unbelievable.

What out any Vermont SMr's.  There s pervert on the loose!

Yeah, I know, I do agree about the Rosie/Donald coverage, but I don't get all worked up worrying about folks living in small towns or the boonies.

I do think only self sufficient or competent folks should be living in the boonies, otherwise move to a city and let the welfare folks take care of them.

Now that dosen't mean I wouldn't help a neighbor cut/haul wood or assist
in fixing things that need fixed. But my charity is a bit constrained.

Thanks Angie...
He was also an electrician   amoung many other trades

and he always said after the ICE Strom we had in 1997...
"Until they learn how to bury  electical cables at all voltages  we are always going to have proplems with the electrical grid"
Of course 30 years ago I had NO idea what he was talking about.

I may have related this before, but I looked at the online registry that the State of Florida has for sexual offenders. I didn't know they had it and I wanted to see the statistics. I fed in the Zip code where I grew up, which covers about a 10-square-block radius in suburban Dade County. I expected it to be bad. Dade County is a rough place. I'm glad I don't live there now. But what i saw I hardly could believe.

There were 495 registered sex offenders in that small area, listed on the web site.

It is an epidemic.

O/T  Does anyone else have problems understanding Greta?  At first I thought it was her accent but then realised I can understand all the other ladies on there.  Seems to me she is trying to speak with her jaws wired together.  Meow

I don't have trouble understanding her, but she does hold her jaw very tight and her mouth is crooked.

do you happen to know what they were talking about Confused

TIA

No worries Old Fart.  I just butted in to make a smart remark.
I have no idea what KCL stands for, unless the L means Lobotomy which is what bleachedblack referred to in previous posting.  Would love to know the answer myself.  Maybe Cat will come back or another clever monkey can help us.
