Sunday marks the five year anniversary of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba.  Her mother Beth says she has transitioned from victim to victor.  She’s launched two new programs:  The non-profit Natalee Holloway Resource Center, to help families who have missing loved ones.  She has also joined forces with Mayday 360, a company to help families in crisis when they run into trouble overseas. Holloway says she does believe she will see justice for her daughter.

Five Years After Natalee Holloway Disappeared, A New Legacy

The Natalee Holloway Resource Center to open in Washington, D.C. and provide families "how-to" help in order to conduct a search for a missing loved one.

Natalee Holloway was 18 and on a high school graduation trip to Aruba when she vanished on May 30, 2005. There are still many unanswered questions about the circumstances of her presumed death (her body has never been found), but on the fifth anniversary of her disappearance, her mother Beth Twitty and the National Museum of Crime & Punishment are partnering to create a nonprofit that will provide answers to families with a missing loved one.

The Natalee Holloway Resource Center will be housed in downtown Washington, D.C. and the nonprofit center will provide families with an action plan, templates of missing person posters, media liaisons, helpful contacts, as well as other services that can guide families through a traumatic crisis.

The Center will not only provide resources for families after a disappearance, it will try to educate high school and college students on how to prevent a tragedy through education and travel safety tips.

In March, a couple of scuba divers photographed what appears to be human remains that could be those of Natalee. Investigators are analyzing the photo to assess its authenticity and that it does, in fact, depict a human skeleton.

The center will launch on June 8, according to AP.

Page 7:  Once I was able to regain my composure, I call my brothers, Phil, Steve, and Todd, and my brother-in-law, Michael.  Phil, Michael, and I all tried to book flights out right away but could not get any until the next day.

Page 8:  We left Meridian, Mississippi, on the evening of May 31, 2005.

When I arrived in Aruba with my family, we hit the island running.  We rented a car and immediately headed out to find a police station.  There were only four on the island and I was amazed to find that the first two we entered knew nothing about Natalee's disappearance.  We were then directed to a third one, the Noord Police Station.  I walked in and said, "I'm Dave Holloway, and I need to talk to you about my daughter who is missing."  A man in the back stood up and said, "How much money do you have?"  That is how I first met Detective Dennis Jacobs, the investigator who was assigned to handle Natalee's case after Beth made a report to him upon her arrival on the island.

Page 9:  Jacobs painted a scenario that questioned all of the beliefs and values that we had instilled in Natalee.  He insinuated that she had met someone and fallen in love.  "This happens all the time.  She will probably show up in a few days," he theorized.  "She was just partying hard," he added.  "Don't worry.  Just go down to Carlos 'n Charlie's and have a beer."

It was June 1, 2005, our first evening in Aruba, my daughter was missing and a detective was telling us to go to a local bar and have a beer.  I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

However, he did warn us to watch our drinks very carefully , adding that sometimes people put drugs into them.  When I talked about search for Natalee, he questioned why we would want to do that.

There was originally two lawsuits filed against the Kalpoes.  One was dismissed.

TORONTO, May 31 (Reuters) - Aruba approved a tax settlement deal on Saturday for Valero Energy Corp's (VLO.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) idled 235,000 barrel per day refinery on the Caribbean island, a company spokesman said on Monday.

The agreement leads the way to resolve all tax issues pertaining to the Valero Aruba Refinery, and as Valero considers strategic alternatives for the plant, a settlement will help make the refinery more viable for Valero and for any future buyer.

"This gives clarity to the cost structure and an idea for potential future costs. It may lead to some decision making," said Bill Day, a spokesman for the company.

Under the terms of the settlement, Valero would pay the government 200 million Aruba florin and make a minimum tax payment of $10 million per year.

The refinery was shut in July due to financial losses caused by the poor economy, the narrow price differential between heavy sour and light sweet crude oils, and the disputed issues.

Valero has kept all employees on the payroll until the June 1 deadline for the Parliament to approve the settlement.
