A 12-year-old girl who was last seen leaving for a friend's birthday party has vanished, leaving her mother and investigators stumped as to where she might be.

"We do not believe Kayleah ran away. There is nothing to indicate she did," said Sgt. Joe Tymkowych, a Greeley Police spokesman. "We just haven't been able to come up with anything that indicates what may have happened."

When Kayleah Wilson of Greeley, Colo., didn't come home Sunday evening from a birthday party that was supposed to end by 7 p.m. her mother, April Wilson, became worried.

She also never arrived at the party, police said.

"She's never run away before," said Wilson. "I am worried she may be in danger because none of her friends have seen her, and it is like she just vanished, but that's not possible."

Kayleah, who is in sixth grade at Brentwood Middle School, was last seen wearing a white-and-pink shirt over a white tank top, blue jeans and white and red shoes. She is described as being 5 feet 1 inch, and approximately 145 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.

Wilson said her daughter left at 3:40 p.m. Sunday for the party, which was just a few blocks away.

"She walked over to the couch and said, 'I love you,' and 'I'll be home by 7,' and she walked out the door and that was it," said Wilson. "She had been talking about the party. She was really looking forward to it."

Tymkowych said that since Kayleah was reported missing Sunday evening the search has taken over his police force.

"We have about 25 people out on the ground searches and recanvassing the areas where she was last seen," said Tymkowych. "We are reinterviewing a lot of the key figures in the investigation as well."

Tymkowych said that dogs had been used in the investigation initially but proved unsuccessful. He said that investigators working the case do not believe Kayleah had any problems with drugs or alcohol, and have not found anyone who may have wanted to harm her.

"We have no evidence that there was any foul play," he said. "At this point, everything is still a question mark for us."

The eight-block area where Kayleah would have walked to get to the party is well-populated and safe, according to authorities, who are still looking alongisde a busy highway that runs behind her home.

Even so, Wilson said that she had no concern about her daughter walking alone and that the neighborhood is not dangerous.

"We all walk everywhere, we don't even have a car," said Wilson. "It's not a bad neighborhood."

Wilson describes her daughter as "loving" and "trusting," and said that she's always been well-behaved, except for a recent incident involving an older boyfriend.

According to Wilson, Kayleah had been seriously involved with a 17-year-old who was friends with her older brother, but the couple had broken up a few months ago.

Other than that, Wilson said her daughter is a typical preteen who has a crush on one of the singers from the folk band Celtic Thunder.http://abcnews.go.com/US/kayleah-wilson-disappears-birthday-party/story?id=10250877&page=2

typical? I don't know a preteen that does.

I guess she really likes the band  celtic thunder, because her myspace friends are the band members from celtic thunder, so I doubt she ran off to seee them because there are no concerts available near Colorado, just texas, san diego, minnesota, pennsylvania not many places..she likes music.

How You Can Help Find Kayleah Wilson

Weld Co. Sheriff's Office Suggests Ways You Can Help Find Missing 12-Year-Old

Marshall Zelinger, 7NEWS Content Producer/Presenter

POSTED: 8:33 pm MDT April 4, 2010

WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- The search for missing 12-year-old Kayleah Wilson has now gone on for more than one week.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been looking for the Greeley girl since last week. More than 200 tips have been called into the FBI.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office is also searching for Wilson and provided the following tips for anyone who wants to help in the search:

# Check and look along road sides, back roads, fields, dump areas that you may know about in the county or in the towns or areas you drive to or live near. These may be areas that you routinely drive, walk, run, jog, etc. Check any ditches or areas that are typically hard to see when driving by at high speeds. Other potential areas to check are under bridges, in abandoned barns or structures that are not normally occupied, abandoned vehicles, etc.

# If you notice a suspicious odor in an area, or see activities in or around abandoned homes or property; if you happen to see circling birds or gathering predators, like coyotes in or around an area, check it out to see if it is safe, or contact the local law enforcement agency near you to have it checked out.

# If you own property that is not currently occupied, check it out to make sure it is still secure and that everything inside is in order and as you expect it to be. If you know your neighbor is not home and you have permission to go on their property, check for any broken windows, doors, or suspicious activity or things that may appear out of place to you.

# If you live in a rural area and know your neighbors are gone for extended periods of time, drive by those areas and make note of any unusual cars, vehicles or things that appear out of place and are not consistent with what you are familiar with.

# If you live near an empty home or building, watch for any suspicious activity or unusual people or vehicles in or around the structure that are not normally there.

# Do NOT go in any buildings or homes that you do not own or trespass on private property, to search any areas.

# If you see or suspect anything suspicious, do not attempt to pick it up, touch it or contaminate the immediate surrounding areas. If you leave the area before authorities arrive try to leave the same way you came in so other potential items are not disturbed or contaminated.

# If a suspicious incident is in progress and you are concerned for public safety always call 911.

# If the situation is not an emergency, call the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9600 or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324)

Why not just act like it is foul play and quit wasting time trying to prove abduction. If it happens to turn out different nobody would ever discount law enforcement. ALL forms of LE from what I am reading appear to be trying to prove one way or the other..   Screw that, you have a culprit who has abducted until we find out otherwise, find the bad guy and roust every convicted S.O. and go through each one looking for a week link.
Somebody was able to grab and run without witness.. Get ahead of the culprit/s go for surveillance videos from all over the area at that hour.. looking for strange driving or a van or possibly not even a vehicle and some stranger leads her astray from her path while walking.

Hello, I have been following all the forums on this case and finally decided to join in. I live here in Greeley and have been following this case, hanging flyers ect ect.

First thing I wanted to point out this post...the AW you search on the arrest records is NOT the mother of this girl, I know this because a relative of mine used to be friends with the AW in the records and also if you look at the birth date this lady is 32, KW mom is 36.
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5010844&postcount=74

Also wanted to clear a few things up from some previous posts I have read, they are too far back to qoute, but someone had mentioned our community did not seem to be responding enough to this, well in our defense this was not made public here in Greeley until late Tuesday night on the local newspaper website and then on Wednesday morning there was only a brief article about it that quickly fell to the bottom of the page until enough of us complained that is should be first priority until she is found.

There were no visible large scale ground searches going on, no warnings at our schools...nothing! I have to be honest is has been strange. We only live a few blocks Northwest of the apartment building and as I was driving around on Thursday I was amazed I did not see one flyer anywhere...so I came home downloaded the flier and began puting them up my self and to this day there are no more that what I put up. I guess it seems very hard to get involved on a large scale and help when the family just isn't out there, a lady from Evans went to the apt. to ask if AW needed anything and she said "no" so the lady proceeded to ask for any fliers and AW handed her a stack of fliers and shut the door. My son goes to an indoor skatepark here in town that is in the other side of the building of Higher Grounds, which is the teen hangout that they said KW frequented, so on Thursday night I was talking to the person who runs both and he had not heard a word about a girl being missing...what?? I guess I am very new to this happening in my community..thank goodness..but this is not what I would have expected.

I guess I am just wondering what else do you do when you want to help??
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5010916&postcount=79

Thank you for the welcome! Just to be clear I don't know this family although I have a son who is about the same age as MJ..AW's son, and knows who he is but not personally. I have not come across alot of people who do know the family but I have noticed everyone wants to help...it seems to instantly become personal when a child in your community is missing, they seem to become everyone's child in a sense. It is a very helpless feeling to not have any sense of how to help, and with there not being alot of information out there about her, her friends, etc...it really makes it hard. And I don't know why there have been no warnings at our schools or in the community..is that normal?? I mean I am overly protective with my kids anyway...but in a community where really nothing happens like this, seems the LE would just want to highten everyone especially with springs break being this week, we have had no sense of the rest of us being in any danger...just business as usual, but it's not...
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5010950&postcount=82

The lady that started the facebook page for KW contacted me via FB because I had some pics and articles about Higher Grounds and The Farm, she needed some contact info since she was interested in holding it out there, so I contaced the person who runs it to give him her number, and at that time he had not heard anything about anyone being missing, so it was only after our conversation and of course being contacted about the vigil that anyone out there was aware of it.
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5010966&postcount=83

Just a little more about our community here is Greeley, years ago it used to be a somewhat sheltered farming and college community, but with our lovely JBS Swift meat plant we have had an influx of legal and illegal immigrants not only from Mexico but also from Somalia and various other countries all coming here to work, along with that has come a rash of drug trafficking and gang activity. It's not what it used to be. This area where KW was walking I would consider anything but safe, the mall has become a hang out for alot of drug and gang activity as well as the neighborhoods surrounding it. Plus it seems we have an enormous amount of SO's and SFO's for our small area. It is a very diverse town for no more residents that we have. I just think alot of people have not adjusted to the times and are naive about what really goes on here. It is also very hard for kids KW's age as there is NOTHING for kids to do but rome the streets, hang at the mall, there is no safe place for kids to do kid things on a regular basis. Ok I will stop rambling..LOL
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5011040&postcount=91

I drive that route by there house at least twice a day, it is visible from the main highway the runs through Greeley, and this area is not somewhere where you would see people walking around, so you would definatley notice even one person let alone a group and other than tons of media vans have seen nothing else in the area. I did read today they were searching alot of the "wooded" areas around (I just have to laugh cuz nothing is wooded around here) which does include the area about two blocks south of my sub division but I did not check that out as I am pregnant and have food poisoning today...and no my son has not seen MJ, but that is not unusal as he would really only see them maybe once or twice a month if that as they do not hang in the same type of crowds.
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5011071&postcount=95

This has bothered me also but I couldn't even imagine being a parent or family member is this situation and I would think I would be out there EVERYWHERE, but you never know, people handle things differently and handle stress differently. But maybe they should find a spokesperson for the family to help them with media and such to keep this story of top interest, I have already noticed in the local papers today the story is starting to fade to the bottom of the page, parents are the best advocates for thier children and they really need to be proactive to keep the publics interest and remind them that Kayleah is still missing, unfortunatley people move on and lose interest and forget and it is up to us as parents to make sure they never forget and never stop looking...just a thought.

KAYLEIGH WILSON UPDATE: Press conference scheduled this afternoon in missing girl case

Greeley police and the FBI have called a press conference for this afternoon regarding the disappearance of Kayleah Wilson, the 12-year-old Greeley girl who vanished eight days ago.

However, officials in the case have not said there is new information, and the conference is just an update.

The conference will be a the Greeley Police Department, where one other press conference was called last week about the case.

“Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner and FBI Special Agent in Charge James H. Davis will update the media regarding the on going investigation into Kayleah Wilson,” according to a press release this morning.

The girl's disappearance has become the main focus of the police and FBI, and as many as 50 FBI agents are in Greeley working the case.

Kayleah disappeared on Sunday, March 28, and was last seen by her mother as she left the family's apartment to go to a friend's birthday party.

Extensive searches have been conducted throughout Greeley for the girl, including area ponds, where Greeley firefighter/divers were used.

No trace of the girl has been found, according to the police and FBI.

For the latest news on the case, come back later today to www.greeleytribune.com.

Missing Girl’s Family Holds Out Hope as Search Heats Up

Posted: 02:16 PM ET

“Kayleah Wilson's family prays for answers on Easter” reads the headline on The Tribune newspaper in Greeley, Colorado, a city of about 100,000 just 50 miles northeast of Denver.

Twelve-year-old Kayleah’s mother, April, and the missing girl’s grandmother prayed Sunday at The Northern Colorado Cowboy Church in Lucerne. The church holds new meaning to the family. According to reports, just before she vanished, Kayleah, who loves Irish folk music and the library, had told her mom she wanted to attend Easter services there.

Instead, the sixth-grader is the focus of an intense search by about 60 FBI agents and up to 30 local police officials who have been talking to residents and searching abandoned buildings and ponds for clues.

Kayleah was last seen March 28 as she was leaving home for a friend’s birthday party about a mile away.

Over the weekend, strong winds complicated the search by possibly scattering evidence, police said. While there are no specific leads, tips have been coming in from around the country.

Investigators combed a 10-block area they believe she may have crossed on the way to the party in Evans. The trip could have taken Kayleah past cornfields, ditches and behind a lumber yard.

Kayleah is 5’1’’, 145 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. When she disappeared she was wearing a white and pink shirt, white tank top, blue jeans, and white and red shoes.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release on Sunday telling local residents how they can help.

“Please check and look along road sides, back roads, fields, dump areas that we all may know about in the county or in the towns or areas you drive to or live near,’’ the statement said.

“If you notice a suspicious odor in an area, see activities in or around abandoned homes or property, or if you happen to see circling birds or gathering predators such as coyotes in or around an area, check it out if it is safe, or contact the local law enforcement agency near you to have it checked out.”

If you have info on the case, call the Greeley Police Department at (970) 350-9600 or the FBI at (800) CALL-FBI.
