About 25 people join search for missing 12-year-old
posted by Dan Boniface written by Jamie Kim     1 hr ago

WELD COUNTY - Greeley Police are stepping up their search for a missing 12-year-old girl. Kayleah Wilson vanished on Sunday while walking from her house to a friend's birthday party.

Kayleah left her house around 3:40 p.m. Sunday for the 8 to 10 block walk to her friend's house. Police say she never arrived.

She also never returned home. Her mother called police around 10 p.m. Sunday night to report her missing. Greeley Police say initially this was written up as a possible runaway. When detectives interviewed her family and other witnesses on Monday morning, they found no evidence she ran away. They can't say there was foul play, because there is no evidence of that either.

Greeley Police have already searched the area near her home and interviewed witnesses.
Sgt. Joe Tymkowych says 20 to 25 people are helping with a selective ground search and the investigation on Thursday. This is in the area of U.S. 34 bypass and between 17 and 35th Avenues.

Detectives also plan to re-interview witnesses and try to develop new ones. Sgt. Tymkowych says there is a lot of traffic in the area with shops and restaurants.

"We're hoping someone saw or heard something," Tymkowych said.

He says the reason why an Amber Alert was never issued for Kayleah, is because the alert is for abducted children and there is no evidence of an abduction and there is no suspect.

Kayleah is described as 5-foot, 1-inches tall, 145 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing a white and pink shirt over a white tank top, blue jeans and white and red shoes. She is a student at Brentwood Middle School.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9600.

It appears that the building Kendall Printing was in is vacant.

I have no idea Edward.  I also see that there are a couple of hotels in the 2500 block of W 29th as well, a Holiday Inn Express and another one.  It seems to be a very busy street, quite a few businesses.  But on a Sunday I guess would not be as much traffic.

Well now that we know what we think we know.. The perp is most likley a local.

Look at that cemetary .. who was working that day and evening ?

LE needs to look at everyone in that area.. LE should be looking at all S.O. too

This could even be an act of another Teen or group of Teens also..

I wonder if she was buried in soft wet dirt and with the recent rains she washed out into the creek and that is why searchers missed her prior. But you would think dogs would have scent her no matter what.

It is always frustrating for me when a child's body is found..
Very upsetting.

Reports said Kayleah's mother, April, was notified that a body had been found. A victim's advocate from the Greeley Police Dept. was at the family's home Wednesday morning and FOX31 News has learned that a candlelight vigil was scheduled for 7 p.m. near the site where the body was located.

Greeley Police Sgt. Joe Tymkowych told the Greeley Tribune that a worker was checking the narrow ditch, located near 35th Ave. and the U.S. 34 Bypass., for any problems following Tuesday's heavy rainfall. He came to a gate and, when he opened that gate, he noticed the body and contacted police.

The ditch runs underground behind the former Kendall Printing building, behind Trinity Lutheran School as well as Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

I do see your point on the Motels Heart..
The perp could have been a guest staying at a hotel or motel, the good thing is there should be a log of guests on the day and night in question when this young lady disappeared. A S.O. could have been a guest at such a place.

I know nothing about underground ditches, would a person that does, know where to put a body? Does that make sense? Like is there a manhole cover or something, that you could put something in? It isn't something that you could just fall into?
