WARREN COUNTY, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - The Warren County coroner is making a plea to the public for help in solving a horrible murder case that has gone cold. Five years ago this week, a woman's torso was found at a Wright City rest stop. Her identity is still a mystery and there are no suspects. Roger Mauzy admits he is obsessed with finding out the identity of the woman whose torso was found at an area rest stop. It's the only body he hasn't identified in his 13 years as coroner. He hopes keeping the murder in the public eye will help solve the case.

"I've lost countless hours of sleep over this," said Mauzy as he looked through crime scene photos- many of them very graphic. "It haunts me. It haunts me big time."

MoDOT workers found the torso at the I-70 West rest stop in Wright City on June 28th, 2004. The Major Case Squad was activated then and reactivated in February of last year, but the case is still a mystery.

Mauzy says the woman was light skinned and in her early 20's with brown hair. She had scars from a C-Section and an Appendectomy.

"My main goal is to identify this young lady and get her back to her rightful family. I'll exhume her and I will ship her body anywhere to where she rightfully belongs," said Mauzy.

Mauzy believes whoever murdered the woman killed before-he calls the murderer a serial killer. He thinks the killer cut off the arms, legs and head because they had identifying markings.

Mauzy still comes to cemetery where he buried the torso. He says by state statute he is the woman's next of kin because she hasn't been identified. Because of that, Mauzy feels a connection to her that compels him to keep trying to identify her.

He says, "Hopefully someday before the good Lord takes me I'll find out who she is."

Mauzy says identifying the woman is more important for him than catching the killer the torso and that leads him to believe the killing took place not long before the torso was found. If you have any information, call the Warren County Sheriff's Department.
