JMO, but with so much emphasis on Ms. Barrett it seems clear to me that HER DUHfence team fully expect her to be convicted of MURDER...........Ms. Barrett and her input will be for the sentencing phase, to try to keep her from getting the DP.....only because they don't beleive in the DP....it has nothing to do with Caylee or KC for them.....it the DP..............Damn, if I felt I was that close to getting the death penalty I would be demanding a plea. These attorneys are only out for their own glory. They KNOW she is going to be convicted..but I bet that's not what they are telling her

Prisons are a three billion dollar a year business and they keep a lot of people employed—and contained, especially people of color. They are, in the view of these activists, the new slave plantations, institutions that punish the poor and make the rest of us feel superior.

There were some deep if academic insights until Andrea Lyon got to speak about her experiences as a lawyer representing inmates charged with capital crimes. Her big case is one in which every American knows about if only because every media exploited the case to death.

It is the case of Casey Anthony the Florida based mother of a pretty young daughter named Cayles who she is accused of murdering although the evidence is hardly definitive.

Thanks to Nancy Grace on one of the CNN networks, this story became an almost nightly soap opera in which no detail went unemphasized, ad nauseum, and no accusation was disregarded. Her mother was turned into a monster with little mitigation or even counter argument.

Her lawyer, straight outta Chicago, a large, brilliant woman who disdains makeup and calls Gil Scott Heron her favorite poet, has been demonized along with her client with constant bashing by bloggers and journalists who seem to reject the very idea that her client deserves a defense. Most of the media has been hostile too as if she killed the child.

Her association with case has prompted a steady stream of invective residents of the Internet sewer. She is the author of the acclaimed “Angel of Death Row.”

She is suing the State of Florida for funds for the defense which it sounded like she expects to lose before she can even mount it, She compared the experience to the Salem Witch Trial, although it sounded even worse. It is like Alice in Wonderland, “first the verdict and then the trial.”

Hearing all this makes you sick and angry, especially at media people who get caught up in the ratings game that drives the murder porn industry, The sicker the story, the bigger the audience. No wonder Andrea is considered an angel of death row. He has won awards for being among the best representatives of the poor in America. You can see it in her bearing: she takes no shit and can out argue the most demented DA.

Sunny, guilty or innocent -- I wouldn't want to miss a minute.  I can't understand why she thinks it is so unimportant, even to herself.  If guilty, I would make sure my attorneys worked their butts off and if innocent, I would make sure no stone was left unturned.  Her not caring even about herself makes me nod my head.  Unless, of course, they have told her no matter how this trial turns out, she will get to appeal.  Lord, you would think she would want to get out of jail.  But, maybe not being around her mother is reward enough.
On another note, I found her jailhouse "bling" so attractive today :>)

A report by the Food and Drug Administration found the McNeil Consumer Healthcare plant in Fort Washington apparently wasn't checking for bacteria, storing materials safely or training employees properly. It said general quality control was nonexistent.  McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a division of Johnson and Johnson, issued the voluntary recall in the United States and 11 other countries after consulting with the FDA. The recall involves children's versions of Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl, because they don't meet quality standards. What kind of day was it for Casey Anthony’s defense?

WFTV-Channel 9 listed setbacks today in a hearing on expenses for the indigent defendant:

***Her attorneys asked that she not have to attend hearings. “Casey Anthony doesn’t like people criticizing her appearance or actions, so she asked to stay in jail during future hearings,” WFTV’s Kathi Belich said. But Chief Judge Belvin Perry said she would have to attend most of them, saying he didn’t want to give her grounds for an appeal.

***The defense wanted to keep its experts’ names secret, but Perry “made defense attorney Jose Baez name names,” Belich said.

***The defense wanted to buy two cars — with taxpayer money for $6,000 — to conduct air tests; Perry denied the request.

Why that request? ”While it may sound like a silly idea, it gives you a sense of how closely  the defense wants to challenge the so-called sniff test showing the odor in the car of Casey’s was from decomposition,” WESH-Channel 2’s Bob Kealing said.


Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

Perry denied the defense team’s request to seal records about how her attorneys will spend taxpayer money. Perry said a blanket sealing of the information wouldn’t be appropriate.

“This is not a total blow to Casey Anthony’s defense team,” WESH’s Jeff Lennox said. “The judge says if they’re worried about any information that may be released in the near future, they can go ahead and deal with it on a case-by-case basis with the court.”

And the day was hardly a wash for the defense.

WOFL-Channel 35’s Holly Bristow highlighted that Perry allowed the defense to keep some out-of-state experts, such as Dr. Henry Lee. “In the end the judge approved 16 of the 19 requests the defense made, but he flat out denied spending state funds for a jury expert,” Bristow reported.

What of the overall expenses?

“We didn’t find out an exact number for how much money Casey’s defense will cost taxpayers, but we do expect to get a better idea in an order from Judge Perry,” WESH’s Kealing said.

What kind of day was it?

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer offered this analysis: “The judge is not going to send the defense to court in a Rolls-Royce. He’ll send them to court in a compact.”

Sheaffer’s said Perry’s rulings “are ensuring the integrity of the system, they’re ensuring that the taxpayers’ money is spent wisely.”
