Attorneys for Casey Anthony are expected in court this afternoon to defend her in a defamation suit.

Anthony is being sued in circuit court in Orange County by Zenaida Gonzalez, a Kissimmee woman who accuses Anthony of damaging her reputation.

Anthony told investigators a baby sitter named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez abducted her daughter, 2-year-old Caylee Marie, in 2008.

Anthony is accused of killing her daughter that year. The baby sitter was never found.

Gonzalez is seeking unspecified damages. She filed suit two years ago, saying she was harmed by Anthony's statement about the baby sitter.

After investigating that claim and many others, authorities charged Anthony with murder. The child's body was found several months later in a patch of woods not far from Anthony's home.

Anthony is now in the Orange County Jail, awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge. The state is seeking the death penalty.

It's not clear what will happen at the 1:30 p.m. hearing, a routine pretrial conference.

In September, Anthony's attorney, Jonathan Kasen, asked the judge to delay or throw out the civil suit. Anthony shouldn't be placed under oath and required to say whether or not she murdered her child, he argued.

But Gonzalez's attorney later agreed not to ask that question, and Circuit Judge Jose Rodriguez ruled that the case should move forward.

A pre-trial hearing is set for Tuesday afternoon in the civil suit against Casey Anthony.
Zenaida Gonzalez is suing the accused child killer for defamation. She says Casey damaged her reputation when she told authorities a woman who shares her name kidnapped Caylee. Gonzalez was questioned and cleared in the case but says she lost her job and was forced to move after the allegations were made. She's seeking punitive damages. Keith Mitnik is one of her attorneys.

"For example, if [Casey] happened to be found not guilty so that she could write a book and make money, we'll be chasing her for 20 years if we win the verdict," said Mitnik. "It's about accountability for what you did. It's about retribution for what you did, and punitive damages allow you to bring about civil punishment for a wrong."

Casey's civil attorney, Jonathan Kassan, argues that the case has no merit.

"Ms. Anthony has already cleared this woman," said Kassan. "Just because you share a common name with an individual doesn't mean you're disparaged. You can only harm an individual that you have contact with and that you know, and in this case neither applies."

Kassan has tried repeatedly to have this case dismissed, but he's been turned down every time.

This case has turned ugly in the past. During a deposition, Cindy Anthony, insulted Gonzalez when she said there was no way that she could have been Caylee's nanny.

"She doesn't have perfect teeth," said Cindy. "She's not a ten. I'm sorry, m'am. You're cute, but you're not a ten."

But Casey's mother also admitted that she had never met the woman who was supposedly Caylee's babysitter.
If Gonzalez wins this case, getting any money from Casey could be difficult. She's already been declared indigent in her criminal trial.

Morning Monka..............sounds like a settlement to me, which is not surprising. No way is the DUHfence going to go through with a trial on this....as with the check fraud case.....Déjà vu...JMO of course...no crystal balls, no special talents, no previous predictions, ............JMO!

This is asking for the hearing or the trial itself be postponed.   If both sides agree there is no reason to rule but if one side doesnt the judge will rule.    In this case, a Joint Motion for Continuance may indicate that both Casey & the Anthonys have filed for continuance.

Interesting about the default  and foreclosure.  Looks to me like the A's decided they'd rather be homeless then have anything to give to ZFG.  Sure looks that way to me.
Wonder how much moola has made its way into George's Mom's bank account for safe keeping?

Can one file a motion of continuance on the day of the hearing?  I mean that doesn't give the judge much leadway to repurpose the courtroom, the clerk, etc?  Seems like a huge waste of time, people and money to me.  Wait..it is the A family..that's what they do for goodness sake.
