Haleigh Cummings Update – Search Ends

I received word that the search in the Shell Harbour region of the St. Johns river has been completed. It has not been revealed if anything with any evidence value was found. This is hardly surprising, if Haleigh Cummings body was dumped in the area 14 months ago there would be little to locate at this late stage. The St. Johns river is not fast flowing, but it is still moving water. The term ‘needle in a haystack’ comes to mind.

I do believe though that the search was successful in so far as waking up the people involved.   Apparently those currently behind bars are being a lot more co-operative in the investigation.

Does anybody remember if Crystal was taken in alone first, without ron or his family, to be given the news?  Specifically when they were all brought in and it's rumored that Crystal said "Joe killed my baby".  I don't know if that's even been confirmed she said that, but I had some thoughts regarding the possibility.  Another poster either here or over yonder (WS) said that they couldn't imagine that LE would lie to Crystal and tell her it was JO if it wasn't. 

Thinking about it, I wondered if perhaps she's going along with it?  Maybe they want ron to think they are totally believing JO's story.  If they spoke to her first, they may have said something like "we don't want to let ron know we suspect him at all, and by bringing him in, he thinks he's safe.  He could be totally innocent, but I can't wrap my mind around him protecting or standing by misty.  Then you have his mom and grandma singing her praises too.  There's a reason behind all that.

Rob do you believe that police would use a tactic like that, because I wondered the same thing? Since I don't know what kind of tactics are used except on crime shows on tv  I wouldn't know.

NRCG - I CAN'T imagine that they would do something like that. My brain is not that diabolical. This is the Croslin Clan - so who knows. I think it's a horrible thing to do, you know - if it happened. The mother of a missing / murdered lil girl is not propaganda fodder and deserves all our sympathy and compassion. I feel the police KNOW that too.

IM I was hoping you would bring those pics over I was looking at them and didn't know how    One question I have that water looks awfully shallow by the dock would it be, or is it an illusion?

IT does appear shallow, but because it's a boat ramp it always starts shallow and goes deeper so your car/truck can back the boat in, of course the water level drops/rises according to how much rain there has been lately...........I saw the nasty one of the snake Also, the water is what I expected and that's why they crab fish, it's brackish (part salt water/part fresh water). I'm so glad she took those pic's as they give you a sense of what it's like there, and it's eery to me

Very eery, but at the same time looking across the river it was very peaceful and lovely looking not what I was expecting at all. I have enjoyed all pictures that have been shown, I've never been to Florida, it feels like you are there with all the pics.

any body of water always is peaceful and relaxing to me, but the snake creeped me out.......I can deal with the fact that we have sharks, but snakes would keep me out of that water

On March 26, 2010, I informed Nancy Grace that Hank T. Croslin, Jr. (Tommy), wanted and will take a polygraph exam to clear the air as to the events of the evening of February 9-10, 2009, when Haleigh disappeared.

On Thursday, April 8, 2010, Tommy did take a polygraph given by technician, Ron Grenier. On Saturday, April10, 2010, this attorney met with his client to discuss the results of the polygraph.

On Sunday night, April 11, 2010, this attorney received a telephone call from Lindsey Croslin (Wife) that Tommy requested that we meet with Steven K. Brown, the private investigator involved for the past 10-11 months.

On Monday morning, 9:30 AM, April 12, 2010, Steven K. Brown, this attorney and Tommy met at the St. Johns County Jail to discuss the polygraph and February 9, 2009.

Based on discussions that morning, this attorney made contact with FDLE, the State Attorney’s Office and Scott Bolin, Special Agent, FBI, and arranged an interview with Tommy at  the State Attorney’s Office, Homicide Investigations Unit, St. Augustine, Florida, at approximately 5:00 PM.

As a result of the 2 plus hours interview with Jason Jolicoeiur, Special Agent, FDLE, Detective Peggy Cone, Putnam Co. Sheriff’s Office, under the guidance of this attorney and Steven K. Brown, Tommy took the group to the Shell Harbour Road boat ramp, St Johns River,  Putnam County, Florida.

The commencement of the river search for Haleigh was at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

Attorney: Tommy Croslin Gave Investigators Tip

Haleigh Cummings Investigation Deemed Homicide

SATSUMA, Fla. --

An attorney said Friday that his client, Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., led investigators to the St. Johns River in the latest search for Haleigh Cummings.

Attorney James Werter said Croslin met with investigators for over an hour before leading Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials and Putnam County deputies to the river.

Croslin is the brother of Misty Croslin who is the last known person to see Haleigh before the 7-year-old went missing from her Satsuma home more than one year ago. Croslin is currently jailed on rug charges.

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy deemed the investigation into the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings a homicide Thursday afternoon.

Hardy held a news conference at 4 p.m. Thursday, as a search of the St. Johns River neared completion.

"Over the past couple of weeks, information has been obtained by investigators that leads them to believe that Haleigh Cummings is most likely deceased," Hardy said.

He would not disclose specific details about what led to the change in the status of the case. However, Hardy said items were pulled from the river and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

He said no arrests had been made in the Haleigh case, but there were several people of interest.

"We're trying to make an arrest. We're trying to bring some justice for this little girl right here and her family," Hardy said.

The sheriff said he believes Misty Croslin, Haleigh's father's ex-wife, holds the key to the case. Croslin was watching Haleigh when she was reported missing.

Investigators re-interviewed her and brought her to the search site. They said she's cooperating.

"People are starting to cooperate," he said. "That's why I've told people it's just going to be a matter of time. We're going to accept any cooperation we can get."

Croslin's cousin, Joe Overstreet, denied he had anything to do with Haleigh's disappearance or death.

"I can't imagine what they're going through. I didn't do it," he said.

Overstreet's grandmother has her doubts and said she heard that Haleigh accidentally overdosed on drugs.

"I heard Misty supposedly hit her in the back of the head and Joe was supposed to have raped her and got rid of the body," Flora Hollers said.

Haleigh's family is still holding out hope that she's alive.

"(We feel) Hurt, discouraged. It's not something we wanted to hear," said Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother Annette Sykes.

Sykes said Hardy delivered the devastating news to the family earlier in the week.

"We thought they'd have something more concrete. Until they do, we're not going to believe she's dead," Sykes said.

I've been wondering the same darn thing. It is hard to tell what tactics the police would do. I thought that perhaps they brought Ron in to gauge his body language.

He did not just up and leave he talk to the police before he left..Misty and Tommy and also my grandmother is crazy..Before the law believes anything that my grandmother Flora Hollars say they need to do a drug test on her to make sure she is not doped up and knows what she is talking about… She is only out to try and get a reward… She will change her story just as much as Tommy and Misty will..My brother was just in the wrong place at the wrong time..He is a good guy. Tommy and Misty just thinks they will get a plea if they try and blame it on someone else..And also if Tommy made the call to my Grandmother that him and Joe had done that to Haleigh why was that phone call not recorded all the rest of them are..I would not put it past my grandmother to make something like that up..She is a very selfish lady that is just out for money and attention…
