Haleigh Cummings Investigation Deemed Homicide

SATSUMA, Fla. --
An attorney said Friday that his client, Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr., led investigators to the St. Johns River in the latest search for Haleigh Cummings.

Attorney James Werter said Croslin met with investigators for over an hour before leading Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials and Putnam County deputies to the river.

Croslin is the brother of Misty Croslin who is the last known person to see Haleigh before the 7-year-old went missing from her Satsuma home more than one year ago. Croslin is currently jailed on drug charges.

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy deemed the investigation into the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings a homicide Thursday afternoon.

Hardy held a news conference at 4 p.m. Thursday, as a search of the St. Johns River neared completion.

"Over the past couple of weeks, information has been obtained by investigators that leads them to believe that Haleigh Cummings is most likely deceased," Hardy said.

He would not disclose specific details about what led to the change in the status of the case. However, Hardy said items were pulled from the river and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

He said no arrests had been made in the Haleigh case, but there were several people of interest.

"We're trying to make an arrest. We're trying to bring some justice for this little girl right here and her family," Hardy said.

The sheriff said he believes Misty Croslin, Haleigh's father's ex-wife, holds the key to the case. Croslin was watching Haleigh when she was reported missing.

Investigators re-interviewed her and brought her to the search site. They said she's cooperating.

"People are starting to cooperate," he said. "That's why I've told people it's just going to be a matter of time. We're going to accept any cooperation we can get."

Croslin's cousin, Joe Overstreet, denied he had anything to do with Haleigh's disappearance or death.

"I can't imagine what they're going through. I didn't do it," he said.

Overstreet's grandmother has her doubts and said she heard that Haleigh accidentally overdosed on drugs.

"I heard Misty supposedly hit her in the back of the head and Joe was supposed to have raped her and got rid of the body," Flora Hollers said.

Haleigh's family is still holding out hope that she's alive.

"(We feel) Hurt, discouraged. It's not something we wanted to hear," said Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother Annette Sykes.

Sykes said Hardy delivered the devastating news to the family earlier in the week.

"We thought they'd have something more concrete. Until they do, we're not going to believe she's dead," Sykes said.

It is strange that an Overstreet would be arrested in Palatka right in the middle of all of the latest developments.
The fact that he is a sex offender leaves room for a lot of speculation.

I don't believe for a moment that the picture of Misty and Joe hanging posters at the storefront was that morning. No matter what the reporter said. Who printed the flyers that quickly?

If James O. is a cousin then he would be the child of one of Floras children so we know that he does not belong to Lisa and I think that it would be safe to say that he is not Tina's son soooo....do we know of any other children that Flora may have that could be James parents? Or do we know of Flora's siblings as their children could be his parents also ?

I would suspect that they would have threw James under the bus long time ago, instead of pointing the finger at JO if JO is innocent.

At the present it is beginning to look more like the Croslin brothers and Misty.

And if true, there was a female in the background stating something to the effect (does this have something to do with your drugs), could that be one of the sister-in-laws?

That does not look like Misty in the background to...jmo I always have seen Misty in jeans other than in the pic she was kissing Ron good-bye in front of the MH when they were going to separate, and that girl looks like she has on shorts from the reflection in the glass...I am rambling
