How can this be "defended?"

Murder.  Perhaps premeditated.  Certainly planned given the anniversary killing.  A US Fed charge on extortion and wire fraud.  Undeniable evidence that the goon took down a $15K wire.  Any idiot knows that the FSA tracks all private transactions of $10K+ drawn on a US-domiciled financial institution (and that inculdes banks, too) and that has been in effect since shortly after September 11, 2001.  That date should ring a bell.

How could ANYBODY possibly "defend" this?  And with the goon's previous history -- why would they?

Of course she's not "defending" him.  That's because she knows he is a savage psychopath -- and now everyone in the world knows that too.

The Netherlands sent a delegation to visit Joran.  Is it mandatory to do this when a Dutch citizen is incarcerated in another country?  tia.

Not sure about this, but I think they were probably from the Dutch Embassy in Chile.

Peru news has now picked up the Extortion story:

Joran Van der Sloot is accused of extortion in the United States
The Dutchman would have tried to require a payment of $ 250,000 in exchange for information about the place where the corpse of American Natalee Holloway.

The Dutchman Joran van der Sloot was arrested in Chile for the murder of a young woman in Peru, was charged Tuesday with attempted extortion in Birmingham, Alabama, court sources said.

The sources said that Van der Sloot, 23, is suspected in the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba last five years and have tried to require a payment of $ 250,000 in exchange for information on the site where the corpse.

The documents before the tribunal noted that the May 10 Van der Sloot also promised to describe how the death occurred Holloway, an American of 18 years and have received a partial payment of $ 15,000, sources said.

It was unclear who would have made this partial payment, the sources added.

Van der Sloot, who arrived in Chile on May 31, was captured today in Santiago, in Peru after being accused of murdering Stephany Ramirez Flores, 21, daughter of the famous race car driver and businessman in the country Ricardo Flores .

The woman's body was found in a hotel in Lima on Sunday.

According to the reports of migration from the Peruvian authorities, Van Der Sloot arrived by plane in Peru on 14 May from Colombia and stayed at a hotel in the residential district of Miraflores, Lima, where he was to participate in an international poker tournament.

However, on 30 contacted the girl on the Atlantic City casino Lima, after which an employee of the hotel where the man was staying saw him enter his room with Flores Ramirez, whose body was found the next day.

(CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot faces an arrest warrant on charges of extortion and wire fraud in Alabama, U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance said Thursday.

The charges are unrelated to van der Sloot's status as a suspect in the killing of a Peruvian woman.

The complaint alleges that van der Sloot tried to extort $250,000 from an individual in exchange for the location of the remains of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway and the circumstances surrounding her death, Vance said.

Van der Sloot was once the main suspect in Holloway's disappearance in Aruba in 2005.

The announcement of the arrest warrant came on the same day that the Dutch citizen was apprehended in Chile in the killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez in Peru.

Vance called the timing "strangely a coincidence."

The Alabama investigation had been going on for about six weeks, she said.

The arrest warrant will go through the Interpol system in an effort to lead to van der Sloot's prosecution in the United States, Vance said.

It was initially reported that Stephany was stabbed to death, and that turned into a pool of blood and splattered blood all over the walls ~ when in the end, there was no blood at all. In no way do I disregard her murder, God bless this young woman, may she rest in peace and sincere condolences for her family and friends. Someone on Nancy Grace said that Joran will be caught because he doesn't speak the language in South America.... Just shows you the ignorance of the American Media. They make it up as they go along.

So Renho is saying there was no blood at the scene? How the hell would she know...did Joran call her and tell her that? WTF is wrong with her! Why didn't she just say it was dog blood and chocolate

I guess it`s totally lost on these ashos that he committed an entirely new murder.

Just a thought - did Joran try to disfigure the body of this young woman, and beat her until she was unrecognizable, in order to buy more time while the authorities were trying to figure out who she was?

Telling hotel staff not to clean the room and leaving a Do Not Disturb sign on the door bought him time...the beating was pure rage.

Unless it was Joran's intention to be the prime suspect ... I suspect that the death of Stephany was not premeditated.  The beating was an impulsive response to a situation. No self-control.  No thought process.

Think about it.  There was no way to remove a body from the room ... the room that was registered to Joran ... Joran the last person seen with the victim.  Security cameras were everywhere ... in the casino ... in the hotel.  This guy was not going to get away with murder.

Could it that four hours after he realized that Stephany was deceased as a result of his uncontrolled rage ... Joran packed his bags and ... as security camera's reveal ... left the room for the final time ... was on the run and ... his intentions were to keep running.

Joran van der Sloot remained on the lam Thursday following news that a woman had been stabbed to death in his Lima, Peru hotel room Sunday.  The body was found three days later.

Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, who was reportedly an out lesbian struggling with her sexuality, was found beaten and stabbed to death in a room at the Miraflores Hotel Tac in Lima booked in van der Sloot's name, police said.  Her father is a well-known businessman and former race car driver.

Van der Sloot was the top suspect in the Natalie Holloway disappearance back in 2005.  The recent High School grad had disappeared during a trip to the island of Aruba.  Van der Sloot was the last individual to be seen with Holloway.

The slaying of the young Peruvian woman, Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, is making news in poker circles as van der Sloot was slated to play in the Latin American Poker Tour, sponsored by PokerStars.com.  Van der Sloot has been linked to two online poker handles: "AANOTILTKK" and "Joran888" or "Joran" (his logo is a woman who resembles Natalie Holloway).  He is believed to have finished in 5th place at a PartyPoker.com sponsored tournament last year, taking home some $12,000.  Van der Sloot's overall poker winnings would not appear to support his jet-setting lifestyle, however.  Fox News host Bill O'Reilly opined Wednesday night that he has always suspected Joran of being a drug dealer, something that is yet to be proven.

Flores Ramirez was killed nearly five years to the day since Holloway was first discovered missing.

"It just doesn't make sense to me," van der Sloot's former defense attorney Joe Tacopina told "Good Morning America" today. "I don't know enough about the facts -- the so-called facts -- of this new investigation."

Tacopina pointed out that her body was not found until Wednesday and questioned how it was possible she was killed days before without hotel staff knowing. Authorities believe van der Sloot fled Peru, passing through customs into Chile, and is on his way to Argentina.

"There have been so many incidents where false facts have been presented," he said. "Rumors take on a life of their own."

 Flores' funeral will be held today in Peru.
