According to Peruvian radio Joran is in the no-mansland between Chile and Peru. After being arrested in Peru he will board an airliner to Lima.

TACNA, Peru — Chilean police have turned over Dutch murder suspect Joran van der Sloot to Peruvian authorities at the countries' border.

Authorities say he has declared himself innocent of Sunday's murder of a 21-year-old student in a Lima hotel but acknowledged meeting the girl in a casino in the Peruvian capital.

Van der Sloot also remains the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalie Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba.

The Peruvians put a bulletproof vest on the 22-year-old van der Sloot after he was driven into Peruvian territory in a Chilean police van. He was then taken to a police post for medical tests.

Van der Sloot was arrested Thursday between Santiago and Chile's Pacific coast. Police say he traveled to Peru on Monday.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information.

I still believe that as soon as Joran contacted Beth on the extortion plot, Beth immediately reached out to her FBI contact.  I still believe it was a sting.

I do not believe that it was Beth's personal money that was wired to Joran.  It could have been FBI funds, it could have been funds from JQK's law firm.  I do not believe the FBI would require Beth to send her own money to her daughter's murderer.

I think "Glenda" is merely showing her IQ again..what was it, like 13?

Julia, that blood on your hands isn't going to wash off that easy now is it?

B*tch.

BREAKING NEWS ! FBI VIDEO TAPED IT ALL!
Greta Van Susteren | Anchor

FBI VIDEO TAPED JORAN VAN DER SLOOT EXTORTING THE MONEY from a representative of Beth Holloway.

THE TAPING OCCURRED ON MAY 10 IN ARUBA AND ARUBAN AUTHORITIES WORKED WITH THE FBI TO DO THIS.

THIS WAS A JOINT OPERATION [FBI AND ARUBA] CAREFULLY PLANNED AND EXECUTED.

----

NOTE: What we don't know is WHY van der Sloot was not arrested on May 10.  The criminal complaint released yesterday by the US Attorney in Alabama identifies May 10 as the crime date.  They had enough evidence on May 10 to make the arrest - they had the crime on tape. From a prosecutor's viewpoint, it doesn't get any better than catching the crime on tape.

(Note also that Holloway family lawyer John Q. Kelly was seen in Aruba at least twice in May.

More information to come...

----

UPDATE 1:50pm....just learned that Joran van der Sloot left Aruba on the afternoon of May 13 and flew to Peru via Columbia.  Note that he had to go through customs and immigration......that would be a good place to arrest someone ...

http://gretawire.blogs.foxnews.com/breaking-news-fbi-video-taped-it-all/

thanks Janet.....Greta may replace NG on the top of my CHIT list if she keeps it up...she is in second place now

The victim's family said Friday they had mixed emotions about van der Sloot's capture and return to face charges in Peru.

"I cannot say that I was happy," brother Enrique Flores told CNN's Rafael Romo. "I feel a little relief in this pain that I have and that my family has. This pain that won't go away ... We want this action not to happen again."

Stephany's sister-in-law Carolina Jorge was more outspoken.

"We need justice for our family, for Natalee's family," she said.

Stephany's father, Ricardo, was more wistful and philosophical.

"My daughter had everything in life," the businessman and race car driver said. "Perhaps my error was to show her the pretty side of the world. I didn't show her that there was the other side to the world -- the evilness."

After his sleepless night and long trip today, I hope he cracks.
I wonder if there are local jails in Peru like in the States, because where will he be spending his nights when he's not being interrogated?

"Prison in Lima was hell on earth '

LIMA - Joran van der Sloot has nothing to look forward to as he lands in prison in Lima. The jail cells are much like a medieval dungeon where criminals are crammed together.
"It's hell on earth for the Dutch inmates. Could not be worse. Prisoners are walking around with knives a foot long. it' s crowded, the heat is terrible, the stench is sickening, "said Jasper Bloemendal (20) from Enter.

Bloemendal two weeks ago returned from a visit to the notorious prisons of Lima, where many Dutch drug runners are locked up. Previous experiences were so shocking that he decided to setup a foundation for Dutch prisoners in Peru. "I can report that the prisons are now even more populated than a 6 months ago."
Jasper helps the inmates with soap, a toothbrush, water bottle, a bowl of soup at Christmas, pen and paper, stamps. Or with clothes. Whether guilty or not. "you would not wish this on your worst enemy. They have zero, nothing, except the clothes in which they were arrested. Some have been walking around for years in the same rags. "

The sentences in Peru are not a joke. A few grams of drugs in the baggage is enough for 8 to 25 years in the infamous Sarita Colinia or Lurigancho prison. And sentences in their own country, they can forget, because the Netherlands has no so-called WOTS (extradition) treaty with Peru.

"What you see in there is indescribable. Could not be worse. In Callao  four thousand are crammed into a bunker, built for eight hundred men. There was one guard for one hundred men. The detainees are in charge. There is murder, rape, intimidation. The prisoners fear for their lives. Guards are corrupt and violent. There is no privacy. Prisoners use single thin mat on the dirty concrete floor at night to sleep a little, but the screams and cries of the inmates are earshattering. "
He continues: "Everywhere there are prisoners: the dining tables in the window, on every stair, between the waste bins and the rotting feces. The heat and stench were unbearable. The food is too disgusting to touch. Many have illnesses, wounds, diarrhea constantly. It's degrading what I saw. Dutch prisoners wept and begged for help. Visit never get them. Their families have let them fall.  "

Dutch murder suspect handed over to Peru

(AFP) – 46 minutes ago

TACNA, Peru — A Dutchman suspected in the murder of a Peruvian woman last week and the disappearance of a US teenager in Aruba five years ago was deported to Peru Friday, one day after being arrested in Chile.

Joran van der Sloot, 22, was handed over to Peruvian police at the border after being flown from the Chilean capital Santiago under escort, said an AFP journalist at the Peruvian border town of Tacna.

The athletic-looking suspect, who appeared in good health, was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Peruvian police said he would be taken to Lima later Friday, after paperwork was completed. A judge in the Peruvian capital would decide whether he would remain in custody or freed on bail pending the results of the investigation.

Van der Sloot is the prime suspect in the May 30 murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, the 21-year-old daughter of a Peruvian former race car driver.

Murder suspect expected in Peru after expulsion from Chile
By the CNN Wire Staff
June 4, 2010 2:31 p.m. EDT

Santiago, Chile (CNN) -- Peruvian officials awaited the return from Chile on Friday of Joran van der Sloot, the suspect in the slaying of a 21-year-old Peruvian woman this week.

<snipped>

Van der Sloot's former attorney, Joseph Tacopina, told CNN it was too early to reach any conclusions.

"I just think we need to take a step back before we get to the 'I told you so' stage, and let's see what the evidence is here," Tacopina said Thursday.

Tacopina said he is not representing van der Sloot and no longer has a good relationship with the family.

Van der Sloot risking life in cell

Moordzaak Peru Peru murder

Joran van der Sloot (22) is a life sentence in a Peruvian prison over his head if he is found guilty of murder. On homicide and abuse in the death penalties are lower. In the South American country they have no death penalty.

I'm confused. Can the FBI make arrests of non-americans on foreign soil? Would the FBI have been dependent on Aruba to make the arrest?

Sorry for the questions rather than answers, but I know some smart monkey will know! TIA!

Latin America: prisons are an ideal breeding ground for tuberculosis

What are the most common health problems found in Latin American prisons?

Unfortunately, there is currently no system in place in Latin America for gathering information on health in prisons. This makes it difficult to learn about and assess the prevalence of health problems suffered by detainees. Some studies have given us an idea of the current situation for tuberculosis, a major cause for concern in terms of both prison and public health.
Surveys were carried out by the Pan American Health Organization in 2003 and 2007 on tuberculosis in prisons in several Latin American countries. Both surveys showed that the incidence of tuberculosis in prisons in those countries was up to 20 times higher than in the rest of the population. Prisons in Peru and Bolivia were the most severely affected.
