(ABC News) - A former lawyer for Dutch playboy-turned-fugitive Joran van der Sloot is questioning the evidence in the murder of a young Peruvian woman, saying previous accusations against his one-time client have been heavy on rumor and light on credibility.
Van der Sloot is believed to be on the run in Chile, following this week's murder of 21-year-old Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez , whose body was found in van der Sloot's Peru hotel room.
Police believe she was killed exactly five years to the day of the disappearance in Aruba of American teenager Natalee Holloway. Van der Sloot has long been the chief person of interest in that case, but charges were never filed, even after two arrests.
"It just doesn't make sense to me," van der Sloot's former defense attorney Joe Tacopina told "Good Morning America" today. "I don't know enough about the facts -- the so-called facts -- of this new investigation."
Peruvian newspapers have taken to calling van der Sloot the "international assassin" and Interpol has issued an international arrest warrant.
Flores, who was reportedly an out lesbian struggling with her sexuality, was found beaten and stabbed to death in a room at the Miraflores Hotel Tac in Lima booked in van der Sloot's name, police said. The two were seen on surveillance video leaving a casino together. A hotel employee told police that Flores entered the hotel early Sunday morning with van der Sloot.
But Tacopina pointed out that her body was not found until Wednesday and questioned how it was possible she was killed days before without hotel staff knowing. Authorities believe van der Sloot fled Peru, passing through customs into Chile, and is on his way to Argentina.
"I don't know if he's innocent or not. I don't know if he's on the run or not," Tacopina said. "If, in fact there is an international warrant out for his arrest, then he should deal with it."
Tacopina said that after all the accusations in the Holloway case -- accusations that have yet to lead to charges or a conviction -- he's hesitant to believe anything the media presents about van der Sloot.
"There have been so many incidents where false facts have been presented," he said. "Rumors take on a life of their own."
Flores' funeral will be held today in Peru.
Though living openly as a lesbian, Flores struggled to balance her sexuality with her parents' intense disapproval, her ex-girlfriend Stephanie Jimenez told "Good Morning America" today.
Jimenez said that Flores had recently been hitting the casinos especially hard, spending thousands of dollars at a time. She described Flores as a good girl whose intense insecurity shaped much of her behavior.
Joran van der Sloot: Similarities Between Holloway Case and Peru Murder?
Jimenez, now living in Miami, said that Flores would often flirt with men while gambling at the casino with her father, Peruvian businessman and racecar driver Ricardo Flores, even though she was out to the gay community.
"She knew something bad was going to happen to her regarding gambling, regarding this environment," Jimenez said. "I mean, this guy appeared out of nowhere. They went to a hotel, and I can't believe this."
Jimenez said it wasn't unusual for either Flores or her father to disappear for a few days at a time, but she's shocked her friend would go to a hotel with van der Sloot.
"She wouldn't do that, she wouldn't do that just for fun," Jimenez said. "She was afraid of something like this happening."
There are several similarities between Flores' death and Holloway's disappearance on May 30, 2005. Most notably, the two women seem to have met van der Sloot under similar circumstances and both were captured on video leaving with him.
The lack of charges against van der Sloot have been a painful source of frustration for Holloway's friends and family, especially after he was heard in February 2008 on a reporter's hidden camera saying investigators would never find Holloway's body.
The video prompted Aruban investigators to re-open the case, but van der Sloot was never brought back to the island.
And in February 2010, a Dutch tabloid published a supposed confession by van der Sloot in which he said Holloway got drunk and fell from a balcony.
The Justice Department in Aruba was quick to dismiss the details of van der Sloot's alleged confession, telling ABC News, "We have been aware of the existence of this interview since August of last year. We investigated the claims made. The Aruban police investigated, with help from specialists with the Dutch police.
Spokeswoman for the Aruban Justice Department, Ann Angela continued to say that their "conclusion was that the statements made by Joran van der Sloot are entirely unbelievable."
But former FBI agent Brad Garrett said Flores's death may force authorities there to take another look at van der Sloot.
"It might bolster the case in Aruba, particularly if they are similar," he said.
For now, Jimenez said she wants people to know that Flores was a good person despite a troubled life.
"I want everybody to see the real Stephany, the sweet Stephany -- the good friend, good daughter," she said. "She was a good person and that's what matters."

The Peruvian Stephany Flores, the victim of the murder which Joran van der Sloot is suspected, was already a few days missing. At first thought her surroundings that she was abducted. But Wednesday was her blood-stained body was found in a hotel in the Peruvian capital Lima. In a room's name was on the 22-year-old Joran van der Sloot.
 
About Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramírez is not much known. She was 21 years and still lived with her parents in the middle district Chacarilla. She was fond of poker. Possible that her fatal become.

About the father of Stephany we know more. He is "Riflo ', a symbol of Ricardo Flores Chipoco. Riflo is fairly well known in Peru as a businessman and race car driver. But also as confidant of Vladimiro Montesinos, the right hand of former President Alberto Fujimori, who discredited hit because of bribes. Montesinos called Riflo on a video recording "a winner, a great guy."

In the Internet reactions to the death of Stephany refers to the political past of her father. People suggest that Ricardo Flores, through his association with the political mafia, bad example has given to his daughter. But most reactions have been shocked.

Police Joran sits on the heels - UPDATE
LIMA - The crackdown on Joran van der Sloot is in full swing. The Chilean police would sit him on the heels of Arica. Joran arrived in Peru on May 14 with a flight from Colombia. Since then he stayed in a hotel in the Miraflores district. He said he did participate in an international poker tournament. If he is in South America is arrested and transferred to Peru, he awaits a criminal trial in that country.

Father of alleged murderer had protected Netherlands after his first murder in 2005

 CPN RADIO - 03 JUN | The Dutchman Joran Van Der Sloot, the alleged murderer of a young Peruvian, was protected by his father when he was a prosecutor in Aruba, after having committed his first murder in 2005.

This was announced from the Netherlands to Hoy por Hoy CPN Radio journalist Paul Scheltus, who said that the individual has become well known in his country, for this crime and its constants media appearances.

"This case has always pursued. At various times has made controversial statements "the man told the press, noting that even in the 2008 Van Der Sloot involved with a gang of trafficking.

He added that if the suspect is caught and sent to Peru, Chile, would face trial and conviction in our country because - as stated - The Netherlands has no treaty to extradite him.

Chilean police have orders to locate the suspected murderer of Stephany Flores, but you can not stop it because there is no court order.

Joran has to watch his back from former friends as well as his many enemies. There is a house of cards in Aruba, everyone was in on the coverup, Police, Government, Prosecuter, and many locals. They would hate for Joran to tell what he knows, it will expose them and ruin there lives and probably Aruba. Sad thing is there are some good innocent people in Aruba who have been taken for a ride. I went down there 3 times to help search for Natalee. The coverup was from the very beginning, and yes, a lot of those liars are now going to pay. Joran would be safer in Peru right now than anywhere else, at least there he knows what to expect. I feel certain a lot of people want him dead today. Get smart Joran, GIVE UP.

Stupid, running, sweaty sporter....I'd be surprised to see the SOB give up..

Maybe we'll even see some more 'incidents': desperate needs lead to desperate deeds.

Joran: an overview
Media Land is in turmoil. The Dutch Joran van der Sloot is again suspected of murder. This time the victim is 21-year-old Peruvian Stephany Flores.

Different media have different stories. Rumors going around the world, and the Dutch news sources do not always agree. Televizier shows.

Flores, the daughter of a race car driver and entrepreneur, was found dead in a hotel in Lima, Peru's capital. The room was allegedly on behalf of Joran van der Sloot. Also Joran the night before the disappearance of Flores and her reported.

After the murder Joran would take a taxi to Arica, a town in the north of neighboring Chile, have gone. Almost all Dutch media have also taken these facts.

OH!  Ok, please forgive my last post.  That prior article confused me.

The way I'm reading and putting together all these articles it is that Joran beat her so badly around the upper chest / neck area that it broke her neck and that she had several head wounds, one was so severe as to be the mortal wound.  (I'm wondering if he used something to hit her with)...

Also, during the night and this morning...after the above information started coming out about what was obviously IMO leaks from the autopsy, there was never a mention of stab wounds.  With the mention of one of the head wounds being the mortal wound....I'm thinking she was not stabbed.

Stabbing creates a lot of blood....but head wounds create a LOT of blood.  The father said that blood was all over the room...something that is definately created with hitting someone on the head. 

I'm gleaning that he literally beat her to death...a sociopathic beast in a rage!

I'm torn.  In some ways I wish he'd just kill himself but that seems too easy.  I do believe a Peru prison will be far more punishment for him than death.
