I believe that Joran might have told Jaap this, but I don't for a minute think that Joran was despondent, or that he was actually taking steps to turn his life around.  Joran was playing Jaap and the other poker buddy, trying to get them to feel sorry for him and want to help him. 

Joran is a psychopath who cares only about himself. He might have been feeling sorry for himself, but Joran always believes that he can outsmart everyone else and come out on top. 

He might have really needed money, and when his buddies refused to send him any he picked a new target to get it from - Stephaney.  He had already been in Lima for 15 days and the tournament hadn't even started yet - it's likely that he'd already lost all of his money.  He watched Stephaney at the casino, saw that she had money and was a hard core gambler too.  He convinced her to go back to his hotel, planning to get her to give him money.  She refused and he got angry and killed her.

My friend was correct.. They had him the whole time and kept an eye on him without an arrest until the international arrest warrant was approved by the Chilean government.

We heard on NG show last night the Joran and Stephany left the casino and went to her car and sat in it for 37 minutes before the car left the parking lot.

I read somewhere this morning that a friend of Stephany's said she would never go off with someone she had just met and that Stephany was very concious about not doing that.

We read that date-rape drug wrappers were found in Stephany's car.

Now...if Joran walked her to her car, got in to talk a few minutes, they had a drink...which he drugged...and he waited for the drug to take effect...wouldn't that take about 37 minutes?  Then Joran could drive the car away and take Stephany into the room.  She was drugged...that's why she went with a guy she just met IMO.

Actually, it probably took her that long to find his 'manhood'...

Joran has to watch his back from former friends as well as his many enemies. There is a house of cards in Aruba, everyone was in on the coverup, Police, Government, Prosecuter, and many locals. They would hate for Joran to tell what he knows, it will expose them and ruin there lives and probably Aruba. Sad thing is there are some good innocent people in Aruba who have been taken for a ride. I went down there 3 times to help search for Natalee. The coverup was from the very beginning, and yes, a lot of those liars are now going to pay. Joran would be safer in Peru right now than anywhere else, at least there he knows what to expect. I feel certain a lot of people want him dead today. Get smart Joran, GIVE UP.

I had never thought about this, until reading a few pages back:

Can Aruba arrange for an arrest of JVDS, based on new facts about 2005 case, and bring him back to Aruba to serve time?
Another words, the murder happened there first so they could get first crack at prosecuting him.

I don't know, but IMO, Aruba wouldn't choose to do it. Aruba will never do anything to Joran. Here's the official posture od Aruba:

Oh! We're very concerned and sorry for Stephany's family. Peru should pursue justice in this case with the evidence they have, just as we vigorously did. We just had no evidence.

Keeping him out of South American jails and into an Aruban jail would be paradise on Earth for Joran.
