Chile police detain Dutchman in Peru killing

LIMA, Peru —  A Dutch man long suspected in the disappearance of an Alabama teen in Aruba was arrested Thursday in the murder of a young woman in Peru.

Stephany Flores, 21, was killed in a Lima hotel Sunday, five years to the day after Holloway disappeared.

The suspect, Joran van der Sloot, was escorted by three police officers as he was taken from a dark vehicle into a police office in downtown Santiago, Chile. He made no comment as he entered, walking calmly and without handcuffs as journalists shouted his name.

Van der Sloot was detained while traveling in a taxi, about halfway to the coast on Route 68, said Prefect Alfredo Espinosa, chief national spokesman for Chile's investigative police. The suspect did not resist and has been calm in detention, Espinosa said.

Chilean police are awaiting instructions from their counterparts in Peru, Espinosa added.

Then the Peter de Vries tapes that we were sure would get Joran arrested
Then there was the Persistence Search and even Caps.

I am very afraid to get too excited until I see him in a Peruvian prison coonvicted of murder.

Chileans could leave free to Van Der Sloot


The Dutchman Joran Van Der Sloot, who was arrested at noon in Santiago de Chile, could be released because the country has not yet reached southern arrest warrant against him. Minister Salazar said that they have done the necessary coordination.

Today, after noon while he was traveling inside a vehicle on Route 68 in Santiago, the young murderer was captured and subsequently referred to the headquarters Borgoño by the strength of the Investigative Police (PDI).

Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch national accused of luring a young Peruvian woman to a Lima hotel room and stabbing her to death, has been captured by police in neighboring Chile, ending a days-long international manhunt.

Van der Sloot had been the subject of intense international media attention since he was named the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of American high school student Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
 
Chilean media reports that van der Sloot was captured by police while travelling in a taxi on the highway between Santiago and Valparaiso. Prior to his arrest, a Peruvian taxi driver came forward to say he drove the Dutchman to the border, where van der Sloot, the son of an Aruban lawyer, crossed into Chile by foot.
 
Van der Sloot, was escorted by three police officers as he was taken from a dark vehicle into a police office in downtown Santiago, Chile. He made no comment as he entered, walking calmly and without handcuffs as journalists shouted his name, the Associated Press reported.
 
Authorities in Chile said it could take up five days before he is extradited to Peru.

The Peruvian woman, Stephany Flores Rodriguez, 21, whom authorities found dead in a hotel room booked under van der Sloot's name, is believed to have been killed on May 30, exactly five years to the day that Holloway vanished.
 
Police said van der Sloot and Flores were captured on surveillance video leaving a casino and were later seen together by hotel staff at the Miraflores Hotel Tac, where he was staying.
 
The woman's father told reporters that the she was killed about 8 a.m. Sunday morning and the room was covered in blood, indicating a struggle had taken place. {emphasis added by msmarple - for GLENDA.}

Authorities believe van der Sloot fled Peru into Chile and was on his way to Argentina.
Peruvian officials issued an international arrest warrant for the Dutchman and Interpol was cooperating in the investigation.
 
Van der Sloot reportedly entered Peru on May 14 and left either May 30 or May 31. He initially entered the country to play in a poker tournament, according to Peruvian police chief Gen. Cesar Guardia.

Murdered young father says now, Netherlands will pay for what he did.

The entrepreneur Ricardo Flores, father of Stephany Ramirez Flores, said it now expected to meet with Peruvian authorities to bring our country the Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, who is accused as the murderer of her daughter, who was captured today in Chile.

Lima, June. 03 (ANDINA). The remains of Flores Stephany Ramirez (21) was murdered allegedly by the citizens Netherlands Joran Van Der Sloot in a hotel room, will be buried this afternoon from 15:00 pm in the Garden of Peace Cemetery in La Molina .

In the Holy Name of Jesus Church Chacarilla in Groove develops from yesterday's wake this young woman, daughter of businessman and race car driver, Ricardo Flores, who received the condolences of relatives, friends and different personalities.

With some relief, knowing the author's detention of the death of her daughter and despite the pain Ricardo Flores' employer, greeted the Chilean Police caught the Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, as he left Santiago in the direction of Viña del Mar.
