Casey Anthony case: New letters to Casey Anthony to be released
 By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel

5:19 p.m. EDT, June 24, 2010
Prosecutors say they plan to release some 5,000 pages of discovery documents in the Casey Anthony case on Friday.

These documents include many letters addressed to Anthony herself, according to Danielle Tavernier, spokeswoman for Orange-Osceola State Attorney Lawson Lamar.

"I think most are letters addressed to the defendant but since there are 5,000 pages, I can't say I read them all," Tavernier said in an e-mail. "I saw a statement mixed in there too."

Anthony, 24, is charged with killing her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. The toddler's remains were found in December 2008, six months after her mother claims she last saw her alive.

Check back for details.

5,000 Pages Of Casey Documents To Be Released
Posted: 6:16 pm EDT June 24, 2010Updated: 6:27 pm EDT June 24, 2010
ORLANDO, Fla. -- WFTV learned that 5,000 pages of new documents will be released Friday morning in the case against Casey Anthony.

Meanwhile, the defense has scheduled depositions for two new witnesses. A woman who helped search near the area where Caylee Anthony’s remains were found will be deposed in August.

In July, a second witness will give his deposition and Casey's lawyers also plan to question experts at the Oakridge National Lab in Tennessee.

CASEY'S DEFENSE FLIP-FLOPS; HEARING SET FOR 911 CALLS

The case against Casey Anthony was back in court Monday afternoon for a status hearing, but Casey did not attend. Judge Perry said she doesn't have to come to the monthly status hearings, which won't involve arguments on major issues.

In her absence, one of her lawyers argued the 911 calls made by Cindy Anthony should not be heard in her murder trial.

“There's something wrong. I found my daughter's car today and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car,” Cindy Anthony said in the 911 call.

Evening, everyone!  Just wanted to throw out a passing thought from earlier this evening.  During the after dinner cleanup, I was thinking about Cindy and Caylee's room and wondering: how often she goes in it or by it these days; does she go out of her way to avoid Caylee's room; is the door open or closed; is Cindy as attentive to Caylee's room, now that we're two years into Caylee's "missing" or has her caretaking of Caylee's room waned; why don't we hear about or see Caylee's room in interviews/photo spreads (not that I want anyone to pay the Anthonys a penny-I don't); and things along that line.  What exactly are CA & GA going to do with Caylee's things or what have they done already?  Then the thought ran through my mind that maybe that's one of the reasons Cindy's been championing Casey...it keeps her from having to focus on the reality right there in Caylee's room.  I wonder if Cindy could actually stay home in that house every day for months  on end with no court appearances, media interviews, no antidepressants, no meds, etc.  Would she survive it?  I'm not sure.  Perhaps her ardent support for Casey is really desperation in disguise.  It would certainly explain why she just has to win in her battle to free Casey.  In reality, it has nothing to do with Casey at all, which I'm sure even Casey knows. How sad to have such messed up lives.  I don't believe that "God takes people", especially children.  However, I am glad that Caylee is free in Heaven and evil can't touch her or hurt her ever again.  JMO

I hope these letters addressed to Casey aren't from her crackpot fan club.
They never released Lee's last interview, so maybe we'll get lucky.

Thanks, ISpy and thanks as usual for the thought provoking post. I would not want to be in Cindy's shoes, living in that house where her granddaughter was likely murdered. I would think she limits her time there whenever possible but she will never escape the knowledge of what might have been IMO.

Letters Sent To Casey In Jail To Be Released
State To Released 5,000 Pages Of Information Friday

POSTED: 1:48 pm EDT June 24, 2010
UPDATED: 5:58 am EDT June 25, 2010
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. --
WESH 2 News has learned the state attorney's office will release 5,000 pages of information Friday in the case against Casey Anthony.

A spokeswoman for state attorney Lawson Lamar said much of the information is letters sent to Anthony behind bars.

"It's interesting," the spokeswoman said of the documents' content.

There are now just over 20,000 pages of evidence and information so far in this case.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee Marie.
Criminal defense attorney Richard Hornsby said he's surprised the state is releasing 5,000 pages.

"It does surprise me," he said. "It comes during a lull in the case. (There) doesn't seem to be any outstanding issues we're not already aware of."

Next month, Judge Belvin Perry is expected to decide if he'll allow into evidence 911 calls made by Cindy Anthony, who pointed out a bad smell in her daughter's car.

"That's clearly going to go in the state's favor," Hornsby said. "I don't think that's going to be a big issue."

Hornsby said he predicts Perry will allow the defense to introduce unflattering evidence from the ex-wife of Roy Kronk, the man who discovered Caylee's remains.

Another big issue the judge has yet to rule on is the defense argument that air tests confirming decomposition in Casey Anthony's car are based on unproven junk science.

Casey Anthony case: Jail letters among 5,000 pages of evidence to be released today
Prosecutors say they plan to release some 5,000 pages of evidence in the Casey Anthony case today, including letters she received at the Orange County Jail.
 Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel

7:52 a.m. EDT, June 25, 2010
Prosecutors say they plan to release some 5,000 pages of evidence in the Casey Anthony case sometime around 10 a.m.

These documents include many letters addressed to Anthony herself, according to Danielle Tavernier, spokeswoman for Orange-Osceola State Attorney Lawson Lamar.

"I think most are letters addressed to the defendant, but since there are 5,000 pages, I can't say I read them all," Tavernier said in an e-mail. "I saw a statement mixed in there too."

Anthony, 24, is charged with killing her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. The toddler's remains were found in December 2008, six months after her mother claims she last saw her alive.

In April, it was learned that Anthony had a jailhouse pen pal in former inmate Robyn Adams — a woman Casey referred to in letters as "Cookie."
Adams, a convicted drug dealer who is serving time in federal prison, told investigators that Casey told her she used to give Caylee something to help her sleep so Anthony could go out, according to investigators' interview with Adams.

Those letters also provided the first public insight into Anthony's life since her in 2008. She is being held at the Orange County Jail.

Among the details from those letters:

Casey wanted to plan an RV trip with Adams.

She complained about her mother, Cindy Anthony, not showing up for court hearings.

That she had — or has — crush on one of the attorneys in her attorney's law firm, Jose Garcia.

The discovery of the earlier letters caused a suspension for a corrections officer accused of facilitating the letter exchange, Silvia Hernandez. She is suspended with pay.

Hernandez admitted to investigators that she allowed the two inmates to talk, although she estimated the most she allowed them to do so was 15 to 20 minutes.

Anthony is being held at the jail under a protective-custody status, which prohibits her from directly communicating with other inmates.

Check back for updates.
