SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
A suspected pedophile who tried to have a Brazilian child brought to him in the United States is wanted on a $1 million warrant, according to the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force.

Officials said Benjamin Dee Kendrick is wanted on suspicion of possession of obscene matter depicting sexual conduct of a person younger than 18, and for solicitation to commit a felony.

A search warrant was served at Kendrick's residence on April 20, and his computer was seized after detectives investigated the man, whom they suspected of sharing of child pornography over the Internet.

Kendrick had downloaded and stored more than 100 child pornography videos and images, according to detectives.

"Detectives also have information that Kendrick maintained a long-term Internet relationship with suspects in Brazil and was soliciting to have a child brought to him from Brazil for the purpose of using the child for sex," the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The man quit his job and moved out of his rental home as soon as the investigation began. He's been unaccounted for for three weeks.

Investigators said there's evidence that the suspect talked of killing the solicited child.

"Several solicitations for a child to be brought to him from out of the country," Eric Pahlberg from the Sheriff's Department said. "The disturbing part is not only does he want to have sex with the child, but they also talk about murdering the child … so we really do want to find out if that child has come to the United States."

Investigators discovered that Kendrick was the designer for a website called the National Safe Child Coalition. The site does not appear to be connected to any national groups. In e-mails, Kendrick told colleagues that he wanted to leverage the site to have access to abused children to further abuse them.

The investigation is continuing to find out if the child had been brought to the United States, officials said.

Kendrick is described as a 39-year-old white man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing 160 pounds. He has blond hair and green eyes.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Benjamin Dee Kendrick is urged to call the Sheriff's Department's Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force at 916-874-3002, or Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP; or send a text message tip by texting to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Copyright 2010 by KCRA.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast,
