“Are you worried Dr. Lee's problems in the Phil Spector case will cause problems for your case?” Belich asked Mason.

“I think you’re the problem,” Mason replied.     It will be a problem, and it was such a problem that Spector's defense didn't call Henry Lee during trial, how is it going to work for you this time around Linda Kenney Baden?   Henry Lee is damaged goods, and has been for years, and my question Dr. Lee are you going to go over to Asia again and hide out come trial time?  They all make me ill.

The Casey Anthony case was a top story on noon newscasts for several reasons.

The defense team filed an objection this morning to the release of the evidence its experts are reviewing. WESH-Ch. 2’s Bob Kealing read the words of defense attorney Cheney Mason: “At some point a balancing of the First Amendment right to report must be had against the eminently more important rights of the defense to effective assistance of council, due process and equal protection.”   

Kealing added: “So far no word from Judge Belvin Perry’s office on a ruling.”

The stations focused on the forensic and science experts working for the defense team. Kealing mentioned that a defense attorney — either Mason or Jose Baez — said they may take another look Casey Anthony’s car today.

WFTV-Ch. 9 looked at the “dream team of experts,” but anchor Vanessa Echols added, “It may be a long before we know anything about the evidence being inspected.”

WFTV’s Kathi Belich noted that prosecutors know what the defense wants to examine at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. She added that the sheriff’s office “is videotaping the defense examination of evidence so there can be no question as to  what goes on here.”   

WKMG-Ch. 6’s Mike DeForest reported that the defense experts were looking at “about a hundred pieces of evidence, most of it collected from the woods near the spot where Caylee Anthony’s body was found.”

Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

WKMG showed Dr. Henry Lee, the well-known criminologist, talking to reporters. DeForest also spotlighted Richard and Selma Schieveld-Eikelenboom, who are specialists in touch DNA.

That is “DNA left behind by a killer on something they handled with their fingers,” DeForest explained. “Based on the evidence we’ve seen so far, law enforcement has been unable to find any of Casey Anthony’s DNA on the duct tape that had been wrapped around her daughter’s head or any other evidence found in the woods near the toddler’s body.”

DeForest said it was unclear what the defense experts are looking for, but added, “This is their one big chance to identify any problems with the state’s physical evidence that will be used against Casey Anthony.”

WESH spotlighted Dr. Lee and the Eikelenbooms. WESH’s Kealing added that prosecutor Jeff Ashton attended but didn’t talk to the press. Defense attorney Mason said the examination would take all day and any follow-ups would require a request to the judge, Kealing reported.

Defense experts begin to go through Casey evidence

Dozens of pieces of evidence are being sorted through in the Case Against Casey.

Experts from all over the world are here in Orlando to review evidence collected in the case.
 
"This is a case of the state of Florida versus Casey Anthony, this is not a case of news media and John Q. Public," said Anthony’s defense.
 
That's why Casey Anthony’s defense doesn't want the public to know exactly what evidence Anthony’s so-called ‘dream team of experts’ are looking at Tuesday. They filed an official objection to the release of the list.
 
"Well we're here just to get insight just to look at some evidence," said DNA expert Selma Eikelenboom.
 
Joining late Tuesday afternoon is forensic entomologist, or insect expert, Dr. Timothy Huntington.
 
The team of experts, including Dr Henry Lee who has worked on the O.J. Simpson and Phil Spector cases, are expected to look at nearly 100 pieces of evidence. The defense had earlier said it will center around evidence collected near the area Caylee Anthony’s remains were found. The state, as well as forensic and crime scene investigators with the sheriff’s office, are also watching the experts.
 
 “It’s been placed in 3 individual bays where they can conduct that examination without any contamination,” said Orange County Sheriff's office Capt. Angelo Neives.
 
In order to preserve the evidence anyone handling it is properly dressed.
“They're wearing some hair nets some of the lab suits, tyvek suits, some of the masks for their face. again it's an issue of making sure the evidence remains in a state that is as it's being reviewed,”  Capt. Neives said.
 
This meeting is also being videotaped, should the experts wish to talk privately, they can move into a room that is not being recorded.

One item Jose Baez did say the experts would review is Casey Anthony’s white Pontiac Sunfire.

All I can say about this 'dream team' is they are going to be bitterly disappointed when they meet Baez and find out what a moron he is..     can you just imagine him trying to handle questioning on these complex forensic tests-  it's going to be laughable.

Yep, he'll be sure to have pics taken with his 'prominent' experts for his me-me-me scrapbook.

And also IIRRC there wasn't any testing this time around right?  Only viewing?  If the touch DNA experts don't find kc's on the duct tape I really don't see how they will miraculously find any. Guess we'll find out eventually how it's all going to be spun.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony’s lawyers started a two-day evidence examination Tuesday. They brought in their own experts from as far away as the Netherlands to review stacks of evidence in the case.
Casey's attorneys are fighting to keep the list of evidence private. They turned over the list last week laying out what evidence they planned to inspect and a famous crime expert looked over some of it Tuesday.

Both members of the defense and prosecutors were at the Orange County sheriff’s headquarters Tuesday. The defense team is trying to keep the specific evidence they're looking at, which prosecutors already know about, secret from the public. Meanwhile, the sheriff's office is videotaping the evidence examination so there can be no question as to what happened there.

Evidence from the three possible crime scenes is being examined in separate bays at the Orange County Sheriff's Office: the car, the house, and the woods where Caylee Anthony’s remains were found.

Cindy Anthony was recorded in a 911 call that Casey's trunk smelled of death and a hair from Caylee's lifeless body was found there. In the Anthony's house, detectives found duct tape and heart stickers that matched stickers and tape found with Caylee's remains in the woods near her house.

Defense forensic expert Dr. Henry Lee arrived with Casey Anthony's lead defense attorney Jose Baez (raw Lee | raw Baez) Tuesday. WFTV asked Dr. Lee about his trouble during the Phil Spector murder trial in California, where the judge and the defense accused Lee of mishandling key prosecution evidence, the tip of the victim's fingernail, which could have proved that the victim had fought for her life.
They never have such a thing. Just make up story,” Dr. Lee told WFTV reporter Kathi Belich.

“So the judge was lying then?” Belich asked Lee.

“Oh, I did not say anybody lying. Judge did not say I had a fingernail,” he replied.

Spector was eventually convicted.

Casey's other defense attorney, Cheney Mason, seemed annoyed and angry when WFTV asked whether Dr. Lee's problems led the judge to order the sheriff's office to videotape the defense's examination of the evidence.

“I don't want you asking questions. I don't intend to answer your questions. They're always too stupid,” Cheney Mason (raw video) told Belich.

“Do you think that's why the judge insisted the sheriff's office videotape your search of the evidence? Because of those problems?” Belich asked.

“You'll have to ask the judge. No he did not,” Mason replied.

The defense wouldn't tell WFTV Tuesday why they don't want the public to know which evidence their experts are looking at.
The defense filed a motion Tuesday (read it)  slamming the media in its effort to keep the items of evidence it's examining this week sealed from the public. One of the arguments it makes is that the media will not get to see the defense inspection of the evidence, but that's not really true; it's being videotaped by the sheriff's office and the judge said WFTV will get a copy of the videotape.


CASEY EXPECTED IN COURT THURSDAY

WFTV will be there when Casey Anthony's mother and brother testify at a hearing later this week. The two were subpoenaed to discuss the panicked 911 call Cindy Anthony made where she claimed Casey's car smelled like a dead body. That call launched the murder investigation against Casey.

Also on Thursday, the judge will hear the defenses request to keep their list of evidence private.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. WFTV.com will stream it live online.

thanks Brandi...I use Firefox and an not able to view these.....I click on the link, the video comes up OK, then starts buffering, then I get a second or 2 of audio and it starts buffering again, finishes buffering, I get a second or 2 audio And then buffering starts again.............this goes on over and over and over....does anyone know what I can do the stop this?  FYI I have also asked on the computer help thread.....this doesn't happen on FOX

Mason, an attorney for Casey Anthony, ripped the persistent Belich by saying, “I’m worried about you always bothering me.” He called her questions “too stupid.”  Mason said he’d have to talk to Belich’s boss if she didn’t back up and leave him alone.

And that’s not all. Mason called her boss “stupid.” When Belich said she had obviously struck a nerve, Mason replied, “You are a nerve.”

So what does Belich’s boss have to say?

“I don’t know what all the hubbub is about,” WFTV news director Bob Jordan said. “Kathi was polite. Her questions were relevant and on point. His demeanor speaks for itself — as does Kathi’s.”

What about Mason’s complaint that Belich is bothering him?

“Kathi personifies the traits I look for in a dogged reporter,” Jordan said. “She’s not intimidated. She’s professional, polite.”

And what of Mason’s threat that he’d talk to Belich’s boss?

“Put my number in the paper. He can call me,” Jordan said.

His number is 407-822-8300, and Jordan said he would settle for the web.
