Did Gary Coleman's Wife Have Authority to 'Pull Plug?'

Jun 2nd 2010

http://www.popeater.com/2010/06/02/gary-coleman-wife-pull-plug-divorced?icid=sphere_tmzcom_inline

Several news outlets are reporting a surprising twist in the Gary Coleman tragedy -- his wife, Shannon Price, might not have had the right to remove Coleman from life support. In fact, Entertainment Tonight  has obtained court papers confirming that the actor was divorced from Price at the time of his death. Coleman, 42, was taken off life support on Friday with Price's permission.

Coleman's former lawyer Randy Kester is also speaking out, telling PEOPLE, "I can confirm they've been divorced since August 12, 2008. At the time of Gary's death, they were not married. I have no knowledge if they were ever remarried." His lawyer went on to say, "Gary wanted me to keep their divorce private but now that it's been made public, I'm compelled to say it's all true."

Eariler in the day, Kester told UsMagazine, "Some people have raised the issue that they saw Gary and Shannon on 'Divorce Court' and now there's some questions about whether or not they were married at the time of the death and whether [Shannon] had the authority to pull the plug at the hospital." In 2008, Coleman and Price went on 'Divorce Court' in an effort to solve some marital issues.

Kester went on to say, "Some people in the public are raising issues whether she had authority to do that and if she has authority to be making funeral arrangements, and exactly where she fits into his estate."

"I think there's going to be some developing controversy about some issues of authority," he concluded.

When reached for comment by PEOPLE, Janet Frank, spokeswoman for the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where Coleman was treated said, "Shannon certainly portrayed herself as his wife to our staff and doctors. We assumed she was telling the truth. We can't comment on specific details in Mr. Coleman's case, but in general, any patient on life support is thoroughly evaluated medically before life support is ended."

"We're definitely concerned about this and we're looking into what exactly happened here," Frank continued.

This controversial news comes hours after details from the Coleman 911 tape was released to the press. On the tape, Price seems reluctant to help the actor stating she didn't "want to be traumatized right now" since she had a fever.

Update: Hospital Confirms Gary Coleman's Ex Did Have Medical Authority

Hospital: Coleman's Ex Had Right to Decide His Fate

Jun 2nd 2010

http://www.tmz.com/person/shannon-price/

Gary Coleman  gave his ex-wife Shannon Price permission to make medical choices for him -- including life or death -- according to the Utah hospital where Gary died.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center released a statement saying Gary had signed an "Advanced Health Care Directive that granted Shannon Price permission to make medical decisions on his behalf if he was unable to do so."

Hospital officials say that document remains in effect, regardless of marital status -- unless the patient changes it.

Price's right to make Gary's medical choices was called into question when it was revealed that they had secretly divorced in 2008.

More from and about Gary's friends, coworkers, from around the net:

(a full article that includes this info and much more is at the following link)
Tragic Death of Gary Coleman - May 29, 2010

http://seamusoriley.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Coleman's family said he had been conscious until midday Thursday but had slipped into a coma and was placed on life support as his condition worsened. His wife, Shannon Price, 24, was at his side when he died. She said in a statement that the family was comforted "knowing how beloved he still is."

Coleman's co-star Dana Plato, who played older adopted sister Kimberly, descended into drug abuse, petty crime and pornography and committed suicide in 1999. Her 25-year-old son committed suicide earlier this month, just two days before the 11th anniversary of her death.

Todd Bridges, who played Coleman's older brother, Willis, battled cocaine addiction and was acquitted of attempted murder in the late 1980s. "It's unfortunate. It's a sad day," Bridges said yesterday. "It's sad that I'm the last kid alive from the show."

Janet Jackson, who played Willis' girlfriend on the show, wrote on Twitter: "He has left a lasting legacy. I know he is finally at peace."

Newsweek called Coleman "NBC's Littlest Big Man," and "possibly the most original vid-kid since Howdy Doody."

"He was absolutely enchanting, adorable, funny and filled with joy which he spread around to millions of people all over the world," said actress Charlotte Rae, who played the family's housekeeper, Edna Garrett, and later starred in the spin-off "The Facts of Life."

Gary Coleman Funeral On Ice

Jun 4th 2010

http://www.tmz.com/2010/06/04/gary-coleman-funeral-feud-parents-shannon-price-ex-wife-death

Gary Coleman will not be buried this weekend ... because of a family feud.

A staffer at the mortuary that is holding Gary's remains tells TMZ all plans have been put on hold.

Shielia Erickson, the rep for Gary's ex-wife, tells us Shannon Price is fighting with Gary's parents, so the funeral can't go forward.

Shielia claims Shannon is the executor of Gary's will and has the power to make all decisions regarding the funeral and Gary's estate.

Gary's parents beg to differ.

From 'Eyes For Lies'

Look at Grieving Shannon Price

Friday, June 4, 2010

http://eyesforlies.blogspot.com/2010/06/look-at-grieving-shannon-price.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+EyesForLies+%28Eyes+for+Lies+Blog%29&utm_content=Twitter

TMZ is reporting that the video interview I linked to yesterday of Shannon Price talking about pulling the plug on Gary http://www.tmz.com/videos?autoplay=true&mediaKey=9b40664b-d0d9-4c83-974d-f8e6923325bb was recorded the day after Gary died. Isn't that a shocker??

And today they have photos of Price with an agent that worked with Price and Coleman. TMZ reports these photos were taken about the same time as the video-- the day after Gary's death. Check it out.

She is all smiles!! And if you look, the one on the right is absolutely genuine --its called a Duchenne smile. *indicates genuine spontaneous emotions* See the crows feet? Notice how big her grin is (you see more white teeth)? She couldn't be more happy, if you asked me.

It's flat out haunting.

And there is more video of Shannon talking about how she is struggling to pay for funeral costs. http://www.tmz.com/videos?autoplay=true&mediaKey=85b3d517-f93e-462a-9e00-6fc869437784 She's really trying to act down here because she needs money and she complains Gary was never able to have life insurance because of his health problems. Poor Shannon--she must have looked into it.

This woman is a freak. She truly has no understanding what empathy is. She doesn't even have enough sense to fake it!!! She goes on to say that she hopes his fans are compassionate enough to donate to cover for his funeral and she hopes you'll pay her way, too, now that Gary is gone. He wasn't bringing any money home lately, anyway, did you hear? All of the fun money was gone, so did that make Gary useless to her?

I think I'm going to get sick.

I really really really want to be able to say 'RIP' Gary Coleman.

IMO, Gary won't be able to RIP until he is buried with all due respect.  And until a full investigation into his 'injury' and death is complete, as well as answers to the questions swirling about the strange circumstances including the weirdness re his ex-wife.

Gary brought happiness to so many people during his lifetime.  He will be remembered fondly by many who grew up watching him on tv.  IMO, he deserves, as anyone would, to be laid to rest with no questions surrounding his death.

And if it's found that Gary met with injury caused by someone else, which led to the circumstances that he was in a position to be on life support, then to have life support pulled..... then IMO, he deserves a full measure of JUSTICE brought on his behalf.

Seems to me that only then can Gary truly 'rest in peace'.

When the 911 call was first released to the media, I thought something seemed strange.   To me, the lady on the phone (his so-called wife) seemed like she was lacking emotion.   Something wasn't right.    I'm glad Gary's death is going to be re-investigated.   Its really sad that he didn't have a good relationship with his parents, and sad that in his death, there isn't forgiveness and dignity.   I'm not sure why he didn't have a relationship with his parents but you can't help but feel sorry for them.

Gary had been through enough in his life.    He is entitled to a nice memorial and burial.   I pray that the truth comes out and that if anyone was involved in foul play, it is exposed.

After watching JVM tonight, I learned the reason Gary and his parents were not on speaking terms.... MONEY.  I hadn't realized that before.   What a shame.   Poor Gary probably had a harder life than any of us realize.

I hear ya Sassycat, it does seem that Gary had a harder life than we realize.  Some of his own making, much that wasn't.

Seamus O'Riley gathered together a bio of sorts for Gary, and I snipped the following re his financials etc from there.  Much I had never heard that he went thru.  Have heard similiar stuff tho, from other child celebrities regarding the fortunes they'd gotten while minors and how their finances were used/misused by parents/caregivers/accountants.

<snips from:>
http://seamusoriley.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Coleman was able to work hard and raked in up to $64,000 an episode at the show's peak, reportedly amassing a fortune of $18 million.

But after the show ended Coleman struggled to find work, landing only bit parts in low-budget projects as he toiled in the long shadow of his star role. Increasingly bitter, he bristled at his continued association with the part of Arnold Jackson, but at the same time, continued to capitalize off the role by appearing in minor reality shows and other programs.

Coleman also was dogged by legal and financial disputes. In 1989, when he was 21, Coleman's mother filed a court petition to take control of his fortune, claiming he was unable to manage his own affairs.

He counter-sued, saying his parents and financial manager had squandered his fortune while he was a minor. A judge later awarded him $1.28 million.

He remained estranged from his parents, Sue and Willie Coleman, until his death.

Gary Coleman's Parents Wave White Flag

Jun 4th 2010

http://www.tmz.com/2010/06/04/gary-colemans-parents-will-trust-estate-probate-death/

Gary Coleman's parents claim they've officially changed their minds -- and will not pick a fight over their son's will in probate court -- but it looks like Gary cut them out of his will.

Yesterday, Sue and Willie Coleman lawyered up with the intention of filing for "Formal Probate" ... meaning a judge takes charge of Gary's will.

But moments ago, the Colemans recanted ... now saying they're dropping their bid -- noting it's time for Gary to "find peace and let his spirit go."

The Colemans say their lawyer has seen Gary's will and trust documents, but would not say if it shows Gary's parents were aced out as beneficiaries or executors -- but that would seem to be the case.

Gary Coleman

Has he not been through enough. Omg. I listened to the 911 call as well, right when it was released to the public. His Wife/Ex her voice is so flat. She probably has more excitement in her voice when placing a pizza order.

All she rambled on with " Her excuses" of why she would not help Gary -who was downstairs bleeding to death.  No quick thinking on her part what so ever to aid him or help him. She I think was creating an alibi with that 911 call. She was not trying to " Help" Gary in my mind.
I could hear Gary in the back ground so she could not have been that far away - that his voice could be heard( was inaudible but still) - I kept thinking what is this woman calling from a phone from the 80's - attached to the wall ..that she could not walk down to him with the phone.  Naw, she was just wasting time babbling about her self... my thoughts ..she was hoping he would croak..before help arrived.

Anyone that is that cold and unnerving ...I cannot even fathom it. Unless she was the one who struck him. Because something is not right. When a accident happens and a loved one is involved or even a perfect stranger - People react and just " Do it" Help the other person.  They don't stand away and babble to 911 a laundry list of reasons why ...they cannot help them. It was not like Gary was on Fire trapped inside his house. He was laying on the floor with a head wound bleeding ...

My thoughts are that at one point " Gary" due to being lonely may have said some things to her ..even though they were in such a war of roses for years. That maybe he told her if anything were to happen to him, she would be his go to. Or maybe one time she was on all his paperwork and he removed her without her knowing prior to their divorce. Something though, in her little twit money hungry mind,  translated to her that she would be his estate holder. His life has been such a traumatic circus for the last 20+ years .. and with all the media claiming him to be broke .. I think is a catalyst in all of this. That the media has so portrayed him as angry, bitter etc... that it all worked in her favor.
Hollywood Broke and American John Doe Broke - are too totally different bank accounts.  He obviously as it has been stated " Had Assets".  I mean I know you can't put a "mansion" on the table and eat it for dinner... Cash poor and Asset Rich  - Its still $$$.
I hope that they " Feds" are watching her.  Gary had a very interesting life. I am sure he had many contacts in his life as well ..that were only known to him.
Something is so not right with all of this. I hope Gary get's his Justice and someone who really loved him will lay him to rest " In Peace".  He deserves dignity at the very least.
RIP Mr. Coleman.

*Sad that all the children from Different Strokes have had such tragedy in their Adult Lives. I can only pray for Todd that he remains clean and can live on for many years.

I have to say Wyks adding - Thank God that Gary did not have children with this woman. Can you imagine?
Its sad enough isn't it.

Gary Coleman’s Wife’s Voice on 911 Shows Self Centeredness And Harshness Towards Gary And Her Body Language on TMZ Interview Shows No Love Lost for Gary
June 4th, 2010

WHAT DOES SHE KNOW?

The tone of Gary Coleman’s wife Shannon, his live in ex wife whom he married in 2007 an divorced in 2008 was cold and harsh. It seems that she is  more concerned about herself than Gary and has all kinds of excuses as to why she can’t help him. ” She seems to repeat the phase” I don’t know what happened” as she gets the operator know this several times throughout the call. This is disconcerting as it makes one wonder if indeed she does know what happened.

SHANNON IS FULL OF EXCUSES

She doesn’t even go over to check on Gary as she screams out “Gary, are you OK?” She sound completely self absorbed. Her husband is lying on the floor with the back of his head bloody and all she can say is that she can’t help him because there was blood around,,She says she can’t drive him because she was an epileptic.

But she could manage to yell at him as in a harsh angry and nasty tone as she screamed”Gary, don’t move. Gary Stay there, OK? You have to keep pressure on your head, You got to put pressure on your head.” What happened?

LOTS more at the link. It's a long article.

Gary Coleman's Wife Behind Gruesome Photos

Jun 7th 2010 9:30 AM

http://www.tmz.com/2010/06/07/gary-coleman-death-photos-shannon-price-hospital-dead-body-photographs/

TMZ has learned ... Gary Coleman's ex-wife is the mastermind behind the photos which show the actor in the hospital, bloodied, with tubes sticking out of his body ... and there's also a photo taken after he died.

We're told Shannon Price had a production company shoot the photos.

Our sources say Shannon is featured in one of the photos.

We're told the photos are being shopped around for five-figures ... and Shannon is set to get a cut of the profits.

Gary Coleman Hospital Pics -- Sold

Jun 7th 2010 10:20 AM

http://www.tmz.com/2010/06/07/gary-coleman-shannon-price-hospital-photos-sold-tabloid

Just as we predicted, the pictures of Gary Coleman's final moments among the living have been sold to a tabloid -- but the photo taken after Gary died was not part of the deal ... sources tell TMZ.

Sources say three of the four photos -- which Gary's ex-wife Shannon Price orchestrated  -- may hit stands as early as this week.

One of the photos that sold -- Shannon posing next to a bedridden Gary who is riddled with tubes.

As we first reported, Shannon will get a cut of the profits.

Shannon Price smiles about what it was like....

Monday, June 7, 2010

http://eyesforlies.blogspot.com/2010/06/shannon-price-smiles-about-what-it-was.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+EyesForLies+%28Eyes+for+Lies+Blog%29&utm_content=Twitter

(see video at above link)

I just watched an interview with Shannon Price for Entertainment Tonight. I saw the link through Celebitchy.com.

My heart stopped when I watched the first minute.

When the reporter asked Price what it was like for her to take him off of life support, Shannon gives a quick positive expression. She grins...do you see it? It's astounding!!!! And very hard to watch. I don't know if it would be classified as a micro expression or not, but it very telling about what she felt when she pulled Gary off of life support. If some people don't see it, it is likely a micro expression.

Shannon also says that she has a copy of the will and that Gary wanted her to have everything! Is this a motive?

When the reporter asks her, "Did Gary die broke?" Watch Shannon smile as she says, "No". That brings me back to her statement in the earlier interview I reviewed today where she said, "You know....We've been struggling... a lot... with financial stuff, but now that he is gone, its a little more difficult." That becomes all the more chilling...

Shannon ends the interview with "Gary is my best interest right now, so I am going to do what he wants." That's absolutely chilling.
