Sunny? It's early, but I wouldn't worry too much about Peru turning Joran over to the Netherlands, for any reason. They seem far too pleased to have him to turn him loose.

I have the feeling that JVDS is not really in a "deal making" position at the moment. Don't give him any credit he doesn't deserve

Chili authorities said Joran "forgot" where he slept (address) the night before he was detained. They wanted to go retrieve his laptop and baggage for examination, which I'm assuming were not with him in the taxi they found him in. Of course he would say he doesn't remember......he knew damn well there was incriminating
evidence in his bags. I'm pretty confident they were able locate where Joran spent the night. There was a intense manhunt for his ass. Anyone who rented a room to him would have come forward, IMO.

I'm still going with my translation of the murder weapon as a tennis racket. Of course I could be wrong. He may have broke the handle off and used it to hit her.

Various things aren't very clear," Guardia said, among them the killer's motive.

It certainly wasn't money, he said. Van der Sloot had no problem paying for his escape to Chile.

He gave a truck driver 1,500 Peruvian soles ($525) to take him from Ica, a town south of Lima, to the Chilean border, the driver, Luis Aparcana, said in a TV interview. He said van der Sloot didn't speak Spanish very well and carried two suitcases.

Aparcana said van der Sloot "was worried because he kept smoking cigarettes. He didn't have a cell phone but he had a laptop that he would take out, handle and then put back."

2 Cups of Coffee

CCB writes: I think he was trying to formulate a theory where the purchase of 2 coffees would establish she was alive at the time and that something must have happened after he left...

Exactly.  The diabolical genius of van der Sloot at work.

Just a thought: I drink 3 cups of coffee before 9:00am, everyday, myself.  So what does the purchase of 2 cups of coffee prove?  Absolutely nothing.

.

You're right. It establishes nothing, but Papa Sloot wasn't there with all his resources to make a body disappear, so Joran was left to his own pathetic efforts.

And he didn't do a very good job without "Papa Sloot", did he!

I hope you are right...but I have a sinking feeling......

Does anyone remember if a life sentence on the Netherlands is life?  I thought it was about 25 years or so for murder......I know they think gang rape is minor offense...ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

There is always a reason for the release of evidence and, even more so, for not releasing particular evidence.  Unlike some US states, an open justice system is very new in Peru, but it appears that the authorities are releasing enough evidence to show they have their man but not too much as to tip their hand.

What i meant was that by releasing this video they suggest to the public that they went in the room together, he left the room alone and the girl was found dead. Conclusion he did it.
If they dont (and i hope they do) have footage of that camera running every second from the moment they entered the room and the girl was found without any other person entering that room, the released images could be seen as merely influencing public opinion and be used to the opposite effect by the defence.

I would think the video is a continuous loop.  I agree that the release of the video is to show the public the obvious evidence that they entered the room together and only he left.  I'm curious about the foffee video as I like to observe body language and think this would be telling.  The autopsy results will tell if she is impaired.

I hope so, if that is the case and no one else has entered or left the room but JVDS, he probably wouldn't get off the hook even if God was his lawyer.

She is busy driving Richard Gere around during the Aruba film fest.  I am sure she would not give that up after all this is not the first murder but it is the first Richard Gere.

My understanding that murder with a robbery motive is life. Even without that, the US has charges pending he would have to face at the end of the peruvian sentence. No, he's gone for life and off the streets forever, IMO.

I forgot that the cab driver said his Spanish was horrible YET he told the Chilean police he was innocent and can not remember anything between leaving the casino and being arrested in perfect Catalan.

Joran to hotel worker: 'Don't bother my girl'
June 5, 5:09 PMAtlanta Pop Culture ExaminerRadell Smith

Joran van der Sloot arrived in Lima, Peru to face murder charges in the death of Stepany Flores, on Saturday, June 5, according to CNN.
The Dutch man, who is being accused in the brutal slaying of Stephany Flores, a Peruvian girl seen entering his hotel with him after a night at a nearby casino, has yet to retain a local lawyer. But that is expected to change in the next day or two.
'Don't bother my girl' comment made to hotel worker
As Van der Sloot exited his hotel room the day Stephany Flores met her demise, a hotel worker told the police that Joran made a comment to him, "Don't bother my girl."
Mindful of the guest's privacy request, the hotel worker did not attempt to enter the room for a couple of days after that. But a foul smell began to permeate the air, eventually requiring hotel staff to investigate and address. Stephany Flores' dead body was that smell.
Stephany's casino winnings a motive?
Video coverage of Stephany Flores depicts her winning a tidy sum of cash during her foray into the same casino where her alleged murdered would meet up with her, and actually play at the same table that night.
Carlos Gonzalo, Peru's Interior Ministry spokesman, told the press that Stephany left the casino table with approximately $1,755 in winnings. The windfall was not found on the young Flores' person, or in her abandoned vehicle, providing a potential motive for the nonsexual attack on Stephany.
Joran's pending Alabama fraud charges also involved money
Stephany Flores was said to be a lesbian according to her friends, and police have expressed the fact that she was not sexually attacked by her assailant and murderer.
No apparent foreknowledge of an existing friendship or relationship between Stephany Flores and Joran van der Sloot has been made public, leaving the casino winnings as one of the few viable possible motives for Flores' cold-blooded murder at the hands of the Dutch man.
Joran van der Sloot's express instruction for the hotel worker to not enter his room after he exited, or attempt contact with Stephany during his absence, lends support to the conclusion that the Dutch man was attempting to flee the scene of a crime--and gain valuable time in distancing himself before the grisly discovery was made.
Van der Sloot in Lima, mom sought
The mother of Joran van der Sloot is wanted...by her son. As of this writing, Joran hasn't requested a lawyer, and he hasn't confessed to Stephany Flores' murder. Joran has asked, instead, for his mother.

There are many puzzling things:

Where are shots of going for coffee and coming back?  What did he have with him and what was he wearing?

Notice what looks like a watch on Joran's left wrist--thought he didn't need a watch 'cause he always knew what time it is.

Jewelry was mentioned, couldn't see enough of Stephanie to tell.

Stephanie walks like someone slightly woozy and concentrating on the floor (where she is going.)  The only odd movement was as she reached the narrowed part of the reception area.  She reached slightly downward and toward front as tho' holding something from being banged or caught on her right.

I think she looks drugged, too.

I did notice her looking down the entire time. It's hard for me to tell if she looks drunk or drugged.... she's deffinatly wearing earrings.

Her family will be able to tell if she's walking normally.  The earrings are easy to see, but can't see what is in her right hand.

What was she wearing when they found her, the same outfit?

Reports say she was fully clothed, so I would assume that means yes.

All I can find so far is that she was fully clothed wearing shorts.  She was not in shorts entering the TAC.
