From twitter:

Peuvian officials: Joran van der Sloot has requested to see his mother

I have been waiting for this............I am surprised she isn;t there already....and who knows perhaps she is

She is busy driving Richard Gere around during the Aruba film fest.  I am sure she would not give that up after all this is not the first murder but it is the first Richard Gere.

Maybe he wants her to go to Thailand to get rid of incriminating evidence of other murders........

So true.

Oh boy.... Mommy can't help you now Bubba. It really is pissing me off that Paulus 'heart' couldn't have held out a bit longer to see all this unfold. .......grrrrrrr. (never thought in a million years I'd be saying that, lol)

We have to look at things in different ways.  If Paulus' heart did hold out we wouldn't be here discussing Stephany's murder.  It's weird how things happen.  Unfortunately another young girl had to die.

I do not understand...If Paulus was still alive, this still would have happened....no? Why would this not have happened if he was alive? You lost me, lol.

I woke up this morning in my comfy bed, between clean sheets, in my air conditioned home, and felt a little frisson of satisfaction that Joran will never again experience these simple comforts.  As I showered and dressed I remember that Peruvian prisoners in the video fought over a bucket of water and wore the same rags for years.  Joran will never again experience a warm shower or clean, fashionable clothing.  He will not talk to his friends on MySpace or even touch a laptop again; he'll never sip a cup of coffee again or enjoy a cheeseburger and Pepsi for lunch.  I feel very satisfied that he will not, ever again, experience the simple pleasures that are the reward for a life well-lived.

My sense is that justice is served.  We always knew that his lifestyle and choices would be his downfall, but this is really more than I even imagined.  I honestly thought he might find himself, at the worst, in a local jail for a while.  I am so pleased that he's in a Peruvian prison, probably for the rest of his life.  I was so disappointed when he only spent a few months in an Aruban jail, but l always knew that life isn't fair, and thought this was one of those blatant injustices.  If anyone has not watched the three short videos about the Peruvian prison, then you must watch these.  You will feel that Natalee has been avenged.

Sorry, NR! I've missed the reports that she was found wearing shorts. I don't have an explanation if that's true. I'd be curious to know if the shorts were Joran's because she sure didn't enter the room with anything to carry clothes in, and she was not wearing shorts.

I'm wondering if it's a case of translation. Shorts/pants? As in not a skirt or dress?

lol...I just think if Paulus was alive this would have not happened.  He would have never been taped by the FBI for extortion in Aruba and he would have not fled to Peru.  Paulus would have gotten wind of what he was up to and what the FBI was up to.  JMO.

With Paulus out of the picture they had no need to protect Joran.

Joran is facing at least a couple years in a Peruvian prison before his case even goes to trial.  Anita is his only hope of obtaining legal representation and basic living necessities for the next couple years.  She needs to bring him money.  Without money, he's facing a living hell and may not survive it.

Where is the legal representation the DUTCH said they would pay for, for him??

Nut,  I read they said they would NOT be paying for a lawyer for him.  They would offer assistance if he need help on something like health issues only.  (that is what the consulate said)

Okay, I've got one.

When Joran leaves the hotel, it looks like he's got a back pack and (just) one small valise, maybe a duffle bag. His laptop must have been inside one of these.

The two brothers/taxi drivers said he had a ruck sack and two suitcases. (I'm guessing "ruck sack" = back pack.)

How do we suppose the second "suitcase" materialized?

he has it

The bag he is carrying in his right hand looks big enough to transport the bat, so am wondering why he didn't take that with him along with the bloody clothes. The hotel videos will prove it was only Joran going in and out of that room after he murdered Stephany, so there will be no need to arrest 2 innocent blacks this time around.

in regards to the shorts/pants questions...maybe Stephany was wearing, what we call in my area, pedal pushers, or even bermuda shorts. I watched the video again and I can't see the full length of her legs.

in regards to Anita visiting her sporter...no way. I think she's a coward. And seeing the videos of how well received Joran was, she's too cowardly to show up there. I think she'lll send someone in her place, along with money.

Right.  They will give him 30 (euros?) a month and enable contact with relatives.  That's about it.  They won't find him a lawyer or pay for one.  I did read somewhere that there are 65 public defenders and over 10,000 prisoners awaiting trial.  Thus, most do not get legal representation.  Private lawyers are expensive and Joran would need someone outside the prison to arrange payment in advance to a lawyer. Mom is his only resource--she needs to take him money or he is toast.

I did find this interesting document that is for British nationals detained in Peru.  It has interesting details about the legal system.  http://ukinperu.fco.gov.uk/resources/es/pdf/pdf1/british-detained-in-peru

Just this
Embassy of Netherlands in Peru will not pay for van der Sloot's defense

LivinginPeru.com
Isabel Guerra

The Embassy of Netherlands in Peru will not pay any defense attorney for Joran van der Sloot, prime suspect of killing Stephany Flores (21), daughter of local business Ricardo Flores.

“We are very sorry for these sad events, and just the suspect is a terrible shock for our country,” said an Embassy spokesperson to local press.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the victim,” said the spokesperson, who asked to remain anonymous.

However, representatives from the Embassy will visit him to check on his health.

“He will have to afford his legal defense from his own money,” he said, adding that this is the first time his country faces such a situation.

Two representatives from the Netherlands Embassy in Chile have already visited van der Sloot in Santiago.

Van der Sloot is expected to arrive in Tacna, Peru sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Details on how and when he will brought to Lima are kept under reserve, for security reasons.

Reportedly Joran van der Sloot maintains he is innocent, although he admits having met Stephany Flores at a Lima casino, said deputy Chilean investigative police spokesman Fernando Ovalle.

He also remains the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba.

In my humble opinion, Joran was attempting to cover his tracks - a weak attempt - but an attempt none the less. Everything Joran does is weak, and that's why he needed Paulus and Jan. And the IFA and Holland. On his own he is weak.

Thank God he didn't realize that a body could be placed in a suitcase and wheeled away - hence, missing. Missing yet probable cause to conclude death due to the forensics in the room. All the elements where there. Video. Entrance and exit.

"Don't bother my girl" - it's obvious. No need to explain that, it's apparent to all.

What's not apparent is the reason a lesbian would leave with him and actually end up in his room, and furthermore - how he persuaded Stephany to allow her guard down enough to think any stranger was safe.

The list of motives is long, afterall, we all KNOW Joran and his tendencies - so he could have used any of a hundred lures to get Stephany to enter his room.

I would not even discount - placing her winnings in a secure safe located in his room. This remains a mystery.

Knowing the reception that Joran got this morning, why would he want his own mother to enter that kind of situation.  Selfish to the core with no concern for anyone but himself.  Knowing Anita and her 'sporter' though, she will probably go.  I hope she has so strong protection along with her, she will need it!
