Kermit,

I got my miracle, lol.  But I have also been wondering what happened to all that extortion money.

Did he already have some very pressing gambling debts and it went to pay them?  Because he was flat broke in Peru oddly enough.

We are on the same page. Drugs and gambling debt. Probably brought the unsuspecting Stephany to his room to pay her or show her something. Motive - was to steal her money. She's like her dad - has lots of guts and she put up a fight which he didn't expect. Remember, his mother said something about them not being able to control him and he had anger issues that they sent him to see a psychologist about. Stealing or something from his brother etc.

Cuz, it looks like Joran only had 20 bucks on him. Where's the rest of the money?

I know it sounds crazy to most of us, but I've actually seen people bet $1,000/hand at blackjack.  If Joran has a gambling addiction, which we know he does, then two nights in casinos in Bogota is plenty of time for him to lose that money - all $25k.  I don't necessarily think that's what happened, but it certainly is possible.

Aruban officials uncertain reported Joran van der Sloot confession will help Natalee Holloway case

June 08, 2010, 3:31PM

The Birmingham News
Natalee Holloway (Birmingham News file)

Aruban officials say they're uncertain a reported confession from Joran van der Sloot will be enough to convict him but they still hope information that comes from his interrogation in Peru will help them with Natalee Holloway's case.

Van der Sloot has long been the prime suspect in Holloway's 2005 disappearance in Aruba. A police spokesman in Peru said he admitted under questioning that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores, who was found dead in his hotel room.

That report has given Aruban investigators hope but van der Sloot has been so unreliable that it must be verified, Aruban Attorney General Taco Stein said in a phone interview this afternoon.

"We have had so many statements by Joran that we will have to evaluate that very carefully," Stein said.

He said he had been in communication with the Peruvian prosecutor's office and is ready to send Aruban investigators to take part if permission is granted.

Although an Aruban newspaper editor reported that police were renewing their search for Holloway's remains on the island, Stein said that there is no official search underway. He said private investigators may be conducting some kind of search.

http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/06/aruban_officials_uncertain_rep.html

I hope they can't get permission.......they need to sweat, to wonder who and what joran is going to give up of those within the cover up.....hells bells they KNOW where Natalee is.....that isn't what concerns them...it's what joran is willing to tell for a deal...this is a poker game for joran right now as far as aruba is concerned....and as it looks right now...he has the best hand.....if he goes down..he is going to take a lot of people down with him......bet the sale of tighty whiteys has gone up in aruba over the last couple of days

That is exactly what is most-likely taking place and we're trying to stop it. Say a prayer.
So those who covered-up in Aruba will be caught. Just say a prayer.

thanks Kermit....prayers you got......it's SOP now.  The poster Tim gave me from Aruba still is prominently displayed in the read window of my Mini.....atop the poster is a sign that says Boycott Aruba. I vowed that poster and sign would stay right where they are Natalee has justice.......or until I die...which ever comes first....I plan to live a LONG time .  GIVE NATALEE JUSTICE!!

Hi monkeys!

I read here where Steve Watts said that Dave Holloway is headed to Aruba.

This article also says that, and says he will be joining Tim Miller tomorrow.

I hope Dave Holloway is not being put through another wild goose chase?

Hi Elaine!  Good to see you!

I hope not too.

Remember that Peru does not cut a deal for a confession unless they first need the confession to solve the case.  They don't.  Second, the confession has to be honest and sincere and able to be verified.  Joran's isn't.  So just for confessing, Joran is not going to get any special deal.

IMO and how I read the conditions for confessions.  Joran's just doesn't meet the criteria for reduction of sentence.

thanks Anna.....I still think that Stephany's father would OK a deal (not sure what kind of deal.....I have several ideas on that) if joran gives up the location of Natalee......he has a lot of power inPeru...that and pressure from the Netherlands and Aruba....I just dont know....but NOTHING will surprise me....  I would have bet the farm that joran would never have confessed.....I'd have lost the farm

"Possible false confession Joran" AMSTERDAM - Joran van der Sloot may have under pressure a false confession to the murder of Stephany Flores. That says his Dutch lawyer Bert de Rooij.
Under De Rooij Joran shortly before his confession in a telephone conversation with his mother indicated that he was afraid of the interrogation methods of the Peruvian police, he told RTL Nieuws. The crying Joran would have called such methods "barbaric."

De Rooij van der Sloot represents in this case, but he advises him.

What was he thinking when Stephany was crying for her life.
Apparently the English to Dutch translation of Joe
Tacopina is "Bert de Rooij"

I don't think Natalee was found, TJ would have called me if she was. Or it's a huge secret - which I doubt there is any need to be so hush hush.

About that little purse - Joran left the room for about forty five minutes when he went to get coffee - I think it could be Stephany's purse - but I don't know - he could have taken her keys after he killed her and went to her car / van. And robbed it. I don't know all the details here.

Nut - thanks for that clarification.

De Rooij tells RTL News that Van der Sloot confession shortly before he traveled with his mother called. Against it he would have said that he was afraid of barbaric interrogation methods.

I KNOW this is for the world community - you know, the RU'ers that think Joran's human rights are so flippin' important - but what about those that Joran denies their human rights. Such hypocrites. Joran is the biggest denier of human rights since the taliban.

I'm not thinking of reduction but extradition to Netherlands wherein he can serve his time for the first murder which can't be proved a murder against him, so he'll serve a limited time for body disposal in exchange for telling where Natalee's body is.

He calls himself CHECKMATE and I'm praying that the only checkmate is going to be exposing all those involved and return Natalee home where she belongs on American soil.

me too!  I got a tee shirt at one of the TES fundraisers in Houston ..that said Natalee Holloway Search in Aruba....it was my favorite TES shirt. Dave came to a TES golf fund raiser in Houston and asked me where I got the shirt....he liked it. I asked around to see if TES has any left....nope, none...so I took off my pink tee shirt and gave it to Dave.....he thanked me and gave me a big old hug....with tears in his eyes...he said I should never have let her go.... I hope he has come to realize that he couldn't have stopped her or what happened.

So, I'm in another window with two tabs open - one is the El Comercio news site in Lima and the other is the google translation tool.

I'm reading the today's article about the Columbia missing girls and the comments left by readers.  Suddenly - there's a comment left by Ms. Marple this afternoon!

Love, love, love that!  Way to go, Ms. Marple, you rock!

Thanks Elaine, I think they are in Aruba right now!
YW. I really do wish that one of these searches could be fruitful.

It is just hard to get hopes up after all the ups and downs in this case.

For the sake of Natalee's family it would be great!

For Stephany's family I have faith that Peru will do what Aruba never did.

Aruba can "bite this"................they had their chance, they did NOTHING.............what they need to do is get rid of their corrupt officials who let all these women be murdered because of their lack of action.

If Aruba notified the FBI that Joran was leaving Aruba on May 13th and Interpol can prove he was in Colombia on May 6th, wouldn't that prove that Aruba gave Joran a week to get out of "dodge"?

very interesting
