Hi everyone -

Been reading here on and off since I was heavily into the case back in 2005/2006, when I was a frequent poster.

I'm so glad there's finally going to be some sort of closure for the Holloway family, though hopefully they'll have Natalee's remains found someday. Apart from that, I pray that they find peace and that Beth continues to speak out and make a difference in the world.

I wanted to post here a few days ago after having read another hit piece... on Beth... featuring Aruba's own JULIA RENFRO as the likely pitchwoman for the article and the one providing the bulk of the commentary. 

In it, she, as is her custom, blamed Beth Holloway for the 'investigation' problems in Aruba. (As if one grieving mother can cause dozens of allegedly professional policemen and detectives to stop doing the work for which they are trained.). From Julia's early days, justifying the arrest of the two black security guards, lying to the media on numerous occasions (van der Straaten is not connected to Paulus, was one she perpetrated on this message board, posting as "Bondia").  Relentlessly spinning the media, blaming the vicitms family for Aruba's apparent corruption and incompetence.

What I've never understood is what goal she hoped to achieve? Had she just said, "Aruban police are working on it, we grieve for the familly" - that would have been sufficient. If she felt Beth's push for people to boycott Aruba in the face of constant stonewalling, lies, inaction, destroyed evidence - well, she could have said, "We understand that Beth is  distraught, but we wish to remind everyone that the Aruban people are not behind the police investigation and we, who make our living in tourism don't want to be part of that".. Well, OK, that would have been fine too.

Instead, she became a stuanch advocate of Joran and the van der Sloot family, posting hundreds of times on Refugees Unleashed, and participating in the most horrible, disgusting, vile and childish insults of a mother who is trying to find closure on her daughters murder.

As one person posted on RU, Julia Renfro is an embarassment to Aruba and she is a sad person.  I think most of us would agree with that, but I sstill do not understand why Aruba would have her on woldwide TV programs and in print that reaches millions - bashing Beth Holloway.

There are some images that I'll never forget from Arbua. One of those is Steve Cohen - Aruba's then 'fireman' for tourism. There were photos of him celebrating Joran's release from KIA prison along with Joran, Paulus and Anita. It is unfathomable to me that a mouthpiece for Aruban tourism would align himself with and be photographed celebrating the release of someone who was at that time, still a suspect in the murder of a tourist.

Does someone have the larger versions of those photos? I would like to do a split screen of Steve Cohen cheering on Joran's release with the photo of Peru marching Joran (who was at that time, a suspect), to make a visual point about what is wrong with Aruba's tourism people and how misguided they are in their approach. An approach which in my opinion was part of a calculated plan to blame the victim and her family, assume no responsibility, and hope that tourism remained unaffected.

Well with Joran's confession, some of Aruba's problems will go away, but I would like there to be some record of the damage and pain that Julia Renfro caused and how horribly the Holoway family was treated.

The photo of Cohen outside KIA should be posted as a reminder.

PortValerie, I agree with you about the integrity of the Peruvian authorities, but that doesn't mean he told them the truth.

I was trying to make exactly the opposite point. It doesn't matter whether he REALLY confessed, or, if so, what he REALLY said: If that is the story that the Peruvian authorities wish to put out there, then so be it.

They might very well want this whole story, and the US media, to go away. The last thing they need is a bunch of humanitarians worldwide to decide to improve their prisons.

BTW, Hillary Clinton is in Peru today but can't get a headline cuz of this creep-oid.

Glenda please just shut the hell up.  You're givin me a headache.  Joran is lying in MHO.  Oh he killed her, but this confession will get him a lighter sentence.  Not that it matters because where he is going, 1 year or 100 he's gonna get messed up.

I doubt if it will take that long, given the notoriety of the suspect.
