Sure is. Now people will be safe from him. Too bad Aruba doesn't get it.

Premeditated?
SteveDin MD writes: Many have commented that they believe Joran lured the Peruvian girl into his hotel room with every intention of committing murder. That wouldn't seem to make much sense, though. Had he intended to commit murder all along, he would have been far better off to have done the deed anywhere BUT his room. It would be predictably difficult if not impossible to afterward remove the girl's body unnoticed. What then? If he couldn't remove and dispose of the body, it would eventually be discovered and traced to him. That's why Joran fled the jurisdiction shortly after she died. It's a desperate move and he couldn't possibly have wanted that outcome, which makes me believe that the victim's death was an unforeseen result of the crime.
Rather, I suspect that Joran's intention was probably rape and/or robbery. First, the drug Rohypnol was reportedly found in the girl's car, abandoned at some distance from the hotel -- consistent with a drug-assisted sexual assault. Second, the girl had reportedly won a considerable amount of money at the casino where she encountered Joran, making her an especially attractive target for a man, like Joran, in dire need of cash. He could have his way with her AND be so much the richer for having done so.
Good post, thanks.
It suggests of course that any young woman alone with Joran van der Sloot is in a very high risk category. Perhaps a revisit of the previous allegations made by 3-4 young women about being assaulted by a younger goon when on Aruba would be especially enlightening, in view of the recent developments.
Assuming the videotaped "confession" made by Peter de Vries, the one in which the goon mimics a convulsing and dying Natalee, was "nearly true" -- I long ago thought that jvds and "the pimps" would have altered their modus, and lightened up on the dosages delivered to their targeted victims. And since they are self-taught low achievers, the variability of their handiwork probably ranged from fatal overdose to no effect observed. Stefany may well be an example of the latter.
Premeditated? If not, the calendared anniversary killing is certainly a one-in-a-million coincidence.
Maybe the goon just intended to perform an anniversary rape, instead.
.
Any woman in the presence of JVDS is at grave risk, indeed! As for the recent homicide being a one-in-a-million random coincidence, I think not. My guess is that Joran is a habitual, serial rapist and that he's very frequently active -- perhaps as frequently as every week. Another fatality was bound to happen, sooner or later. Who knows? Perhaps there have been others. One could practically guarantee that there have been other rapes.

Geraldo just said that when Joran left the hotel he did not ask the front desk for his passport and left it there. If he would have asked for his passport the hotel would have known he was leaving and would have gone to the room to clean it.
Why would you need to leave your passport at the front desk? I've never heard of that. Doesn't make sense.
Maybe he asked them to lock it in their safe.

Thanks everyone for the comments about my chat room questions during the Steph Watts show. For those who weren't listening...my questions were not acknowledged by anyone that could have answered them.
I'd typed a whole big long response about it while the threads were changing, so I lost it. I'm not typing it all over again! At least not until after I finish listening to Dana, and take a long hot shower.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Sleuth
for the recap of Steph's show!
Other than what Dave said, God bless him, I got lost in all the confusion..lol. Of course when I started reading your transcription it started coming back to me. I'm going to try to listen to it again later.
I certainly appreciate Steph bringing all the guests on for us to hear, but he could really take some lessons from Dana.

Well, I'm not sure this qualifies as either, but evidently he reported that Joran is not cooperating with the Peruvian officials. Mark Fuhrman, on some type of Skype type thing with a telephone says that Joran's experience is "Don't talk, don't get charged". Makes sense.
Kimberly Guillfoyle (guest) says its a slam dunk as long as there's no break in the security video of the room entryway. (Duh.)

Well, Joran doesn't have a gold medal for honesty.....
Most hotels have little safes in the room, but always have notations in their literature to leave valuables with the front desk. You and I wouldn't leave our passport at the front desk, but in his warped mind, it probably sounded good at the time.

Common practice in other countries. You see it in WWII movies set in Europe. I don't know if they still do that in Europe.
Maybe he asked them to lock it in their safe.

From the many articles I've read...in Aruba a lot of tourists lose their passports when their bags are taken by robbers, or their rooms are robbed. It's probably not a bad idea at all to have it locked up in a safe somewhere, just in case you're robbed.

So that explains why he took a taxi and did not fly out of there. Without a passport he would have to go the "back way" to get out of the country into Chile.

Mark Fuhrman said Peru has to do their job forensically. Fingernail scrappings, hair and skin, walls and furniture.
Geraldo said Peru has a reputation of some of the toughest prisions. He would be shocked if Joran survives over there.
Dr. Baden said he ain't going to last very long over there.
Kimberly said a lot of TB and HIV over there.
She said it appears they are doing their job over there. It couldn't happen to a better guy.
She said can you imagine if it happened to a person whose father didn't run for office over there.

In some countries I always leave mine in the hotel safe. I carry a copy of the front and my visa, but I do not carry it as a rule in many countries. It just depends on what country I am visiting, but most South American countries and Mexico I put mine in the safe.

They stated his passport was kept until he was checking out and the room was clean, etc.......it was not a luxury hotel and in light of the extensive video cams, they must have their fair share of skip-out's and damages to rooms. In that regard retaining passports makes sense.
