Joran: luxury cell, no privacy
From our correspondent Allart Hoekzema on June 16 '10, 22:45, updated June 16 '10, 22:51

SANTA CRUZ - The Peruvian authorities need to keep two fronts happy in the Joran van der Sloot case: the first is a revenge-hungry domestic public and second the human rights watchers abroad. Hence the paradox of a relatively comfortable cell for the Dutchman accused of murder and absolute trampling of his privacy rights.

"The Peruvian state is the Van der Sloot-matter involved in a delicate balance issue," said Antonio Perez, criminal justice specialist in Lima. "The outrage over the murder of Stephany Flores is great. She was not an anonymous citizen, but a member of a prominent Peruvian family. Why the authorities want the media to show that they stay on top. "But according to Perez like the police and magistrates at the same time avoid the situation of Van der Sloot gives rise to fierce international criticism on the Peruvian prison system in general.

Of the murder and robbery of 21-year-old suspect Flores Van der Sloot is stuck in the Miguel Castro Castro prison in San Juan de Lurigancho, just north of Lima. He has a cell for himself from three to eight feet in the so-called Pabellón Prevención, the Department of appeal on the first floor of the heavily guarded facility. "He is lucky that he is isolated from other prisoners," says Perez. According to him, the Castro Castro prison a reputation for violence and unsanitary conditions. "The prisoners there have committed serious crimes," said Perez.

Harsh conditions
A March 11 report on human rights published this year by the U.S. State Department confirms the harsh conditions in Peruvian prisons in 1971. "The devices are characterized by overcrowding, a precarious sanitary conditions, poor nutrition and many cases of AIDS and tuberculosis," the report said. A prisoner with money can 'luxury' purchase, such as mobile phones, meals out, and drink and drugs.

Van der Sloot will get the same food as the prison director and guards. His neighbors are a mayor accused of drug trafficking and Colombia's Alejandro assassin "Payaso" Trujillo Ospina, accused of murdering the Peruvian businesswoman Myriam Fefer.

Indiscrete
"Van der Sloot now eating regularly and has made friends with Trujillo Ospina. They talk and play cards with each other, and even making jokes. Trujillo said Van der Sloot when he first saw it: I'm an assassin and you're a psycho, "said a source inside the national penitentiary institute INPE this week by the newspaper El Comercio. Antonio Perez expects that Van der Sloot at least until his trial in a single cell in Castro Castro will continue. "The state can not afford any incidents."

Across the relative calm in the cell is a huge media hectic situation, compounded by indiscreet actions of the authorities. All the police ever bales are drained and Van der Sloot was repeatedly raised as an attraction to flashing cameras and shouting reporters. At every turn, his arrest and prison photo number shown on TV.

His life is turned inside out, and news and current affairs programs invariably indicate the Dutchman as "murderous playboy," "incurable crook," "dangerous psychopath" and "cheating poker player." "His privacy is violated," Perez admits. "That's not normal, but perhaps not quite understand given the high emotions in this case."

This week it was announced that former anti-corruption magistrate Carlos Morales Córdoba, the court presiding over that Van der Sloot tried. Morales Córdoba is a reconstruction of the murder to understand what exactly happened on May 30 in the hotel room in Lima. If Van der Sloot is found guilty, he can jail a gain of 15 to 35 years.
Joran should get the same mercy he gave to his victims, which is NONE.
I really hope one of the violent prisoners finds a way to get to him.
Joking and playing cards with Trujillo Ospina is a cruel slap in the face to the family members he has crippled with his horrendous crimes. HE deserves no privileges, and should be made to rot in his tiny new cell home.

Peru.21: Fujimori’s former defense attorney may represent van der Sloot
June 16, 2010

The defense attorney for jailed ex-President Alberto Fujimori, Cesar Nakasaki, may represent Joran van der Sloot, the 22-year-old Dutch citizen accused of killing a university student in his Lima hotel room on May 30, daily Peru.21 reported.

The possibility that Nakasaki may represent van der Sloot comes as the Dutch citizen’s recently appointed defense lawyer Máximo Altez decided to quite the case, citing personal threats against him.

“I have received threats, a lot of threatening emails,” Altez said. “I’m an older person; this isn’t for me.”

Van der Sloot is accused of killing Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old University of Lima business administration student after meeting her at a casino in Lima’s Miraflores district.

The Dutch citizen is being held at Lima’s maximum security Miguel Castro Castro prison. He is being held in a segregated block that includes Colombian hit man Alejandro Trujillo and the Luis Valdez, the former mayor of Pucallpa who has been accused of ordering the 2004 assassination of radio commentator Alberto Rivera.

Flores’ death came exactly five years after US teenager Natalie Holloway went missing in Aruba. Van der Sloot was considered the prime suspect in Holloway’s death. He was arrested twice but never convicted.

Flores is the daughter of businessman Ricardo Flores, a former presidential candidate and well-known Caminos del Inca rally driver. Stephany had ridden as co-pilot with her father two years ago in the grueling, cross-Andean rally.

Jinkasaures interviewed the Flores family last night........
The family has spoke to both Beth and Dave Holloway by phone....Beth last night, and Dave a few days ago.

Talking about how Stephany's family were handling her disappearance as a kidnapping...found her car in an ally in a crappy part of town.

They (Flores family) told Jean they want 20-25-30 years sentence for Joran, then want the US to take him and charge him with murder and extortion.

On court tv now

So I see that someone deleted Joran's Facebook page.  Probably the whackadoodle psychics. They must have "seen" that he wouldn't be needing it anymore.

I'm wondering if Anita made it to Peru after all?  Joran gave his pw to someone so they could delete it.....
Frankly, I really believe Anita has no intentions of going to Peru to see her delicious sporter, and she is using her finances as a way to hide behind it. IF she truly cared about him and his well-being, she would have done anything to get there. Sell the house, sell the cars, the furniture, anything she owns, to get there.
Instead, she is too busy rubbing elbows at the film festival, and continuing with life as usual. I have a hard time believing any mother wouldn't go through hell and back to get to their child if he/she were in trouble, so that alone shows you how heartless this woman is. Hell, I get upset if one of my cats is missing for a couple of days.
I believe she is done with Joran, and is now concentrating on redeeming herself in Aruba.

This is what I think too.
I mother can go to great lengths to defend her child (as we´ve seen over and over in the past) but how could she now still defend him, especially after seeing the security video of the hotel. I mean, that says it all. You don´t even need his confession, it´s all in the video.
Maybe mommy finally came to her senses and will now cut the umbilical cord for good.

No doubt.

But I would also subject myself to third-party scrutiny if I crossed the line by fabricating evidence, attempting to influence witnesses, engaging in a unilateral media campaign based on lies and misreprestaations intended to smear and embarrass local law enforcement, and/or announced that I was on a secret mission planning my next attack against wherever it was that my daughter was last seen.

I may not appreciate the scrutiny but I would have to realize that I brought it on myself.

Morning, Monksters!

Peru does not want Joran to gt any breaks or have the international press saying he received inadequate counsel.  That would account for the high profile attorney, IMO.

And don't forget--Fujumori is in jail!  This defense counsel did not get him off.

Some how or other I missed that Dave had already left Aruba.  That was fast.  Doesn't take Aruba long to say NO!  And they will never deem anything Joran says as credible.  But if TES was going to search at their own expense, what would it have hurt?  They really don't want Natalee found even though it continues to make them look totally incompetent and corrupt.

I think they fear the media if she is found and the effect it will have on what tourism they have but how much worse could it be?  Now most people just assume the worst.

Good Morning Sunny.

Thanks.

It’s finally time for Aruba to give Natalee back, Lord knows they covered this case up since the beginning. I, for one, want to apologize for all the destructive actions I have caused.

thanks Janet.....I was going through my mailbox and thought I'd share a couple things.  Never let you guard down where a rat is concerned,

I was hoping for a miracle.  sigh

Morning Anna,  Ditto..............

thanks Janet and Good Morning to all, Monks and Guests.  I WANT TO  Know who is paying any private attorney..............Anita is claiming she can't even buy a ticket to Peru?   What happened to the Dutch news group that was supposed to be there with her?

Wishing I could blame the omitted words and letters on my computer....but I can't!  LOL
