PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Thick pools of oil from the spill in the Gulf of Mexico washed up along miles of Pensacola Beach overnight.
Dozens of workers used shovels Wednesday to scoop up the oil and orange-tinged sand. There were a few sunbathers at the beach, but no one was in the water.

Tar balls have been reported as far west as Panama City and heavier oil is predicted to wash ashore further east along the coast line in the coming days.

Officials also toured the beach. Gov. Charlie Crist said he called for more skimmers and was disheartened so much oil had slipped through the skimming operation.

Crist said the problem was the vast amount of the coastline that had to be protected.

I spent my 18th birthday in the mental ward of our hospital, I was called a fat pig from a girl at school, and it went downhill from there very fast. I stopped eating basically, and the little that I did eat wasn't enough to keep a body going. They at the hospital didn't know really what to do with an eating disorder in that day and time, and I was threatened with feeding me intravenious means and they kept me higher than a kite with drugs. I would never make light of an eating disorder or a situation where a person has trouble losing weight and exercise. I have battled this since a teen and have never completely gotten over it. So my apologies to anyone I may have hurt.

I am sorry, i had just mis-interpreted your post, i thought u were tellling me it wasnt funny, no harm done, weight issues suck, the world has a f*@#$% up view of "how women should look" nowadays...its a constant battle for almost all women i think, there are a few who are genectically smaller and thinner, heck there are even ppl who cant gain weight.

I wasnt meaning to hurt feelings or start anything, or rehash old sad experiences sorry

All is good Scarey.  I agree, our society is so focused on weight and looks it is frightening, it has become an obsession and it casts an impression on girls at a very young age, it doesn't matter who you are as long as you are thin and beautiful, what ever happened to being healthy and smart?  Sad to say that doesn't make people rich, it is a multi billion dollar industry that has affected so many, just look at the young girls who are having cosmetic surgery in their 20's - that is crazy.  I used to be stick thin and now that I am approaching 50 I have gained my share of weight, lost my waistline and girly figure but I am ok with it - it is what it is.

Good morning everyone! Just caught up reading all the posts since last night. Good to see everyone, including ScareyCarrie, who I have not seen in a while! Before I got up, I turned on the weather channel and they were giving the 5 day forecast (right at the end) and calmly said tomorrow's high is 105°. As if they were saying, Thursday's high, 75°.

105° ?!?! I know a lot of the US is in the 90's this week, but 105 is ridiculous for Virginia on the, what? 3rd full day of summer? sheesh.

Last night I was looking for a monkey's original monkey image, as they had asked me to make a mini avatar for them for 4th of July, and I don't have their original, and came across this. Thought it was funny! I did not make this, but am posting it because it looks like everyone needs a laugh today.

A boat captain who was working on the oil spill response died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday, the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register is reporting.

"I'm very sorry to announce the death this morning of a captain in the vessel of opportunity program at Fort Morgan, Alabama," the newspaper quoted U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr. Chuck Diorio as saying.

Diorio said the Gulf Shores Police Department was investigating the death.

Another worker involved in the oil spill response also has died, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said Wednesday. No other details were immediately available, but the Coast Guard said it did not appear the death was work related.
