SuzieQ,

Yes, he's the one from the equipment rental business that was murdered.

I haven't seen much about that in the news since the night of the murder.  I don't think Amigoe reported on it at all, or maybe I missed it.

Some say he was shot...

Hi Monkeys.  Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

van der Sloot not Peru's only foreign accused killer

Birmingham, Al  (WIAT)  Joran van der Sloot isn’t the only foreigner accused of killing a Peruvian woman.   Peru finally won a two year extradition battle with the United States to get custody of another accused killer.  And according to the Lima newspaper El Comercio, van der Sloot has a new neighbor at the Castro Castro prison.

El Commercio and the website Living in Peru say US citizen William Trickett Smith (29) was extradited to Peru and arrived in Lima Thursday night, almost three years after the murder of his Peruvian wife Jana Claudia Gómez Meléndez (21), whose body was found inside a suitcase floating in the sea.

The international news agency AFP says Prosecutor Rafael Aguero charged William Trickett Smith with first degree murder.

In 2007, Smith met Claudia Gomez, 21, through an website. After a whirlwind romance, the couple married.

Soon after, Trickett allegedly killed Gomez in a Lima hotel, stuffed the body in a suitcase with help from two accomplices, and threw the suitcase into the ocean.

Fishermen found the suitcase with the body near a Lima beach in August 2007. Gomez was identified by a butterfly tattoo that she had.

The case resonates with Peruvians who have recently seen three Peruvian women allegedly murdered by foreign nationals. Joran van der Sloot remains in the Castro Castro prison charged with murdering 21 year old student Stephany Flores. He’s also the prime suspect in the disappearance of Mountain Brook teenager Natalee Holloway. Natalee disappeared on a graduation trip to Aruba five years ago…she was last seen with van der Sloot.

Federal officials in Birmingham have indicted van der Sloot on wire fraud and extortion charges for allegedly promising the Holloway family information on Natalee’s fate in exchange for money. No information was provided.

The Peruvian murder charges in the Stephany Flores case are taking precedent over the U.S. charges so far.

Kevin Riordan: Aruba suspect a poker 'punk' to Glouco man

By Kevin Riordan

Inquirer Columnist

Before Joran van der Sloot became one of the most famous murder suspects in the world, Matthew Biebel nearly threw a punch at him during a poker game.

"You could tell he was a punk," Biebel says, recalling his encounter with Van der Sloot in Aruba on May 30, 2005 - the last day Natalee Holloway was seen alive.

Five years to the day later, a young woman named Stephany Flores Ramirez was found murdered in Van der Sloot's hotel room in Peru. The baby-faced suspect with the dyed buzz cut and dead eyes awaits trial in that case.

Biebel's 2005 confrontation with the "Dutch playboy" was captured by security cameras at the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa. About a week after Biebel got back from vacation, three cars pulled up unannounced at his Mullica Hill home, disgorging a quartet of FBI agents who proceeded to interview him ("they were professional") for an hour.

"They wanted to know what the fight was about," Biebel says. "They thought that maybe we had had a disagreement about something other than poker.

"They wanted to know what his demeanor was like. They wanted to know if he was disheveled, and I said he looked like any other poker player - cool, calm, and collected."

A 55-year-old Inquirer driver and father of two grown sons, Biebel was in Aruba with a friend. That same weekend, Holloway, 18, was seen at a bar with Van der Sloot; she missed her return flight to the United States, and her body has not been found.

(Although questioned extensively in that case, Van der Sloot was not charged; he later retracted incriminating statements he had made on video and to a TV reporter. Peruvian police say he has confessed to killing Ramirez.)

Van der Sloot shared a poker table with Biebel and his friend May 29 and 30. Although house rules require that English be spoken during games, Van der Sloot frequently chatted with other players in a local language called Papiamento, Biebel says.

"I let it go, but finally there was a pot that was just me and him, and he did it again. I called over the guy who manages the poker room, and I told him that he was breaking the rules. He was told to stop, and he did.

"The next night, the stakes were higher, and I was in a hand with him, and he started doing it again, when he was deciding whether to call my bet. And my bet was a substantial bet.

"For all I knew, he was asking the other players what they folded. He said something smart back to me. . . . I honestly don't remember what it was, but it was not good.

"That's when it almost got physical. I stood up and basically put my finger in his face."

"If the [casino official] hadn't been at the next table, I would have hit him. Because now not only was he cheating, he was being a smart-ass.

"I told him they'd better do something about this - I wasn't going to lose this hand, and I didn't - and that's kind of where it stopped.

"You could sense he was a coddled punk, and to tell you the truth, the casino coddled him as well. I had played with him for four or five hours the night before, and he was constantly getting away with stuff."

Biebel's friend, who asks not to be identified to protect her privacy, says there was nothing remarkable about Van der Sloot.

"He was a nice-looking guy who seemed normal enough," she recalls. "He seemed to know everybody there."

While Van der Sloot "was very friendly to everybody," Biebel says, "he was definitely a punk."

He shared this impression with the FBI; he also told agents that he found it hard to believe Van der Sloot had been involved in Holloway's disappearance.

"The timeline didn't work for me," Biebel says. "How cold-blooded could somebody be to do something like that and come in and play poker that night and the next day?"

"I just didn't think that was possible. How do you kill somebody and then come in and play poker?

"He was a punk, yeah. But a killer? No."

That was 2005. Since the Peru slaying, "obviously, now I believe he killed Natalee Holloway," Biebel says.

As for what he calls his "up close" encounter with Van der Sloot, "it's scarier for me to think about it now," Biebel adds.

"Then, I didn't know what I was dealing with."

From Tyler's post :
"The government and local citizenry of Aruba, the posters at these horrible websites supporting the vDS family are as guilty of Stephanie's murder as Joran.  Their hands are bloody.  If justice had been rendered in the case of Natalee, and all the moneywhores for Aruba had not gone on the internet bemoaning the sad fate of Joran and falsely denigrating the character of Natalee, Beth, the MB kids, et al, then justice would have prevailed.  Having turned Joran loose and giving him the license to do as he pleased and feel that he could kill with impunity, he struck again.  If Anita and the hacks from Aruba are able to loose him from this, multiple murders will occur.  He was raised to not have a conscience, like his mother.  I am sure she will make up any kind of lie or weave any story to keep her brood from looking like the scum of society that they are."
.
Add Greta, Taco Joe, and any media in the US who paid him for interviews. His ego was inflated, he felt like he got away with it and there were no consequences for him. He was chased like a celeb, wrote a book, opened a business that he didn't take care of and it failed. He went his merry way with his pockets full of cash from his crime against Natalee.

On June 13th 2005 at about 10:20 hours, we, the reporting officers, interviewed the suspect D.S. KALPOE

snip

At about 00:00 hours, I had arrived at the Raddison Hotet. I parked my car in the parking lot and walked to the casino. When I got inside, I saw that Joran was in the poker room and that he was playing at a table. I saw that Guido was seated at another poker table also playing poker, I had seen another friend Andre who was also in the poker room. I do not know the  surname of Andre. Andre was not playing poker. At some moment in time Andre had come over to where I was and had greeted me. Andre asked me to come inside. I did go inside. I did not play, but did look at the cards of Joran and Guido.

At some given moment in time a tourist who was sitting at Joran's table got angry. The tourist thought that we were looking at the cards of other players and signaling/deciding for Joran when he should play or not. It lead to a disagreement between Joran and the tourist. The manager of the Radisson Casino came over and everything calmed down. I drank about four "whisky coke" gedronken in the Radisson Casino. I now that Joran drank more because the waiters were constantly bringing him drinks .I am not sure .what he was drinking. His drinks were of a yellow colour. I think it was “whisky soda" or 'Whisky water". (Edit to change color from red to navy-MB)

I hope Joran kills himself like Craigslist killer Philip Markoff.  Markoff was a sociopath just like Joran.
Joran is too big a coward to kill himself. I hope he lives in utter fear before his "neighbors" take of his problem for him.

Those Kalpoes should think of all the complex trouble they're going to be in when that multiple murderer starts throwing them to the wolves.  Maybe not today, or the week that passes next (does anyone remember how that saying goes?), but their day for accountability is coming.
Hi, Sweetie, I have missed you here.
I imagine you are thing, 'Bless their hearts' about the Kalpoe boys.

You have to give Joran credit. He found a way to travel extensively without it costing him a dime.

The bill payer is the lying liars of Aruba and their lying leadership that is leading them down a path to destruction.  Incidentally, I found this and felt it might (probably not) be of interest to anyone interested in the socioeconomics of Peru, where beloved Joran now resides.  Incidentally, included in the article, right upper hand, is a picture of someone I believe to be Anita vdSloot.

Well, if it is NOT her -- it's a dead ringer!!
Yup, it's a dead ringer, literally.
I love you wreck.
