Misty Croslin 2nd Sentence Also 25 Years

Putnam County Sentence To Be Served Concurrent WIth St. Johns Sentence

POSTED: Monday, January 10, 2011
UPDATED: 2:38 pm EST January 10, 2011

PALATKA, Fla. -- Misty Croslin, the teenager who was the last person to see 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings before the girl disappeared in February 2009, is sentenced to 25 years on drug charges from Putnam County.

The time will be served concurrently with the 25 year sentence she is already serving on a St. Johns County conviction of trafficking in oxycodone.

In addition to the prison time, Croslin will receive five years of probation, a $1.25 million fine and mandatory drug rehabilitation.

Croslin could have faced up seven years on each of seven drug trafficking charges she pleaded guilty to last year.

Croslin; Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings; Misty's brother, Hank Croslin Jr.; and two others were arrested in January 2010 in an undercover sting and charged with selling prescription drugs in January.

Prosecutors released surveillance videos they said shows undercover drug deals involving Misty Croslin and Ronald Cummings.

Misty Croslin was sentenced to 25 years on a charge of trafficking oxycodone in St. Johns County.
Last summer, Misty's attorney, Robert Fields, told the judge that a "landslide of evidence," including the undercover video, led to her to plead no contest to the St. Johns County charges.

Misty Croslin is the last of the five arrested to be sentenced. Ronald Cummings and Hank Croslin Jr. both received 15-year sentences.

During the October sentencing hearing, Croslin told Judge Wendy Berger that she was raped between the ages of 7 and 14 by two people while she was taking care of her great-grandmother. She said that while Ronald Cummings was rough with her, it was an upgrade in her life and she loved him.

During the St. Johns County sentencing hearing, Croslin's lawyer tried to point out that his client was set up in the drug deal. He said investigators just wanted to get her in jail to get information in the Haleigh case.

"God will take care of my daughter," Croslin's mother, Lisa, said outside of court after the sentencing St. Johns County sentencing. Croslin testified that she was a bad mother, and said her daughter had been raped and assaulted several times as a child.

"I feel it was a decision that was made the way it was made because she really knows better to do that, and when she gets out, she will know what to do the next time around," Hollars said.

Authorities have maintained that the drug charges have no connection to the ongoing investigation of Haleigh's disappearance, which they now consider a homicide case.

Haleigh was 5 years old when she vanished from her home in Satsuma, in southern Putnam County. Croslin, who was Ronald's girlfriend when Haleigh disappeared, married and divorced him within six months.

Even with little to no physical evidence, deputies are treating Haleigh's disappearance as a homicide, and investigators have continued questioning the Croslins while in jail hoping to learn new information.

She got off light, considering time will be served concurrently.  Now the fine is quite hefty tho!  But none of this tells us where HaLeigh is.

Misty doesn't even look like herself anymore...
I gotta say that I think for drug charges alone, this is a pretty stiff sentence..jmo...
if she is getting this much time for the disappearance of Haleigh, then good enough for her and more..but for dealing drugs? I have said this before, child molesters and some murderers don't get this time behind bars...but so be it...

Sad, isn't it Cookie?  When will the life of a child be acknowledged as being significant in the eyes of the law? Messed up priorities, for sure.

PALATKA — Misty Croslin, whose name became synonymous with Haleigh Cummings, was given a final prison sentence today on prescription drug-trafficking case that was intertwined with the missing girl’s mysterious disappearance.

Croslin, 19, was sentenced to 25 years and nearly $2 million in fines on seven counts of dealing in prescription narcotics, including oxycodone and hydrocodone pills, in recorded transactions with an undercover detective working with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

She was already sentenced to 25 years in prison in St. Johns County for one charge of trafficking in the same series of cases in the month-long investigation that began in December 2009. She has been housed in the state prison system since late last year.

Misty Croslin, the woman who was with 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings when the Putnam County girl was reported missing two years ago, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in an unrelated case on seven drug-trafficking charges.

Circuit Judge Terry LaRue sentenced Croslin, 19, to prison terms adding up to 89 years in prison but the seven sentences will be served at the same time, for a total of 25 years in prison. The sentences will also be served concurrently with a 25-year drug-trafficking sentence out of St. Johns County.

Croslin, her ex-husband Ronald Cummings and several others have pleaded guilty to trafficking in prescription narcotics. The were arrested following an undercover investigation.

In court in Palatka early Monday afternoon, Croslin told the judge: "Just be fair, that's all. I'm not a drug dealer. I just got caught in a bad situation."

What could turn things around for Croslin? If she suddenly coughed up the keys to unlocking the Haleigh Cummings murder mystery, she could face a reduction kin her prison term for drug trafficking, officially unrelated to a murder no one has been charged with.

Misty Croslin to serve 25 years in prison for drug trafficking

By Kevin Rincon
@ January 10, 2011 4:08 PM

Misty Croslin was sentenced in Putnam County on seven counts of drug trafficking.  She got the minimum mandatory sentence on all of the counts which total 89 years, but those are to be served concurrently so she'll only serve 25.

Croslin was the last person to have seen Haleigh Cummings, the missing 5-year-old girl who has yet to be found.  Less than a month away from the two year anniversary of Haleigh's disappearance her family and friends are worried that once Croslin is locked up so will the truth as to what happened and where Haleigh is.

Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother says she doesn't care for Croslin and her family and just wants her daughter back.  She was among close to a dozen others in court who were disappointed by the judge's decision to have Croslin serve her jail time concurrently as opposed to consecutively.

Teresa Neves (pictured on the left), Haleigh's grandmother was also in the courtroom.  She says it's been tough and hasn't gotten any easier.  She says she's frustrated with Misty, and that her and her son Ronald Cummings just want to know where Haleigh might be.  Her biggest worry is that people may have stopped looking.

Before being sentenced Croslin asked the judge to be fair and told the court she wasn't a drug dealer, just made some bad choices and is paying the consequences.  She also asked the judge for another chance.

Prior to her getting up in front of the judge her father was asked by Misty to speak to the courtroom.  Her attorney advised against it and let it be known, saying he thought it was a bad idea.  Nevertheless Hank Croslin Sr. got up and spoke briefly with the judge.  He says he doesn't believe his daughter ever sold drugs, and asked for leniency.

The judge was rather lenient in that Misty Croslin not only got concurrent jail time but also got time served.  She's already serving time for a similar charge out of St. Johns County.  She'll have to serve five years' probation once she is released.  She'll have fines of more than $1.3 million, won't be allowed to drive for two years, won't be allowed to drink alcohol or even be anywhere near an establishment that makes more than 50% of its sales from alcohol.

Croslin has 30 days to appeal any of the charges.  There was no indication from her attorney that they would be doing that.

Haleigh was reported missing in February 2009 from the home she shared with her Cummings, who is her father, her little brother and Croslin. Putnam County sheriff's officials have since said Haleigh is believed to be dead.

Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, was at Monday's hearing. She said afterward that she had hoped Croslin would say something about the missing girl.

"I would have liked to have seen her give some answers," Sheffield said. "You say you (Croslin) love my children. Why would you do this? God will reveal it one day. He will give me the answer."
