Kyron's Wall of Hope: 500 cranes and counting

PORTLAND, Ore. – For neighbors and visitors at the Wall of Hope for missing second-grader Kyron Horman, the return of 30 or so searchers to Skyline School grounds Saturday was almost routine.

"They're out looking again," said Skyline neighbor David Scheer.

Scheer lives next to Skyline school. He has watched the search grow, and then slow, since June 4. And he has seen the people filing in to pay homage to the 7-year-old boy that has prompted a national media frenzy and captured the hearts of thousands.

"I don't think he's in this general area because they've searched it really thoroughly," Scheer said. "I mean they would have found a mouse hiding under a blade of grass the first time."

Still, on the day searchers come back to the area where Kyron was last seen, several of those at the Wall are on a mission: help to hang 1,000 paper cranes to bring Kyron back.

“It's time," said Danielle Denham. "It's time for something to happen; it's time for him to come home.”

The origami cranes are considered a Japanese symbol of hoping your dearest wish will come true. It's a concept tied to Kryon thanks to Denham's Facebook group, “Cranes of Hope For Kyron Horman.”

“I kind of got sick of sitting on the computer and not doing anything," Denham told us, "when I could be doing something to help Kyron and his family."

Many of the cranes on Kyron's wall were crafted by Denham, her friends and her co-workers. Other cranes are crafted by those who now are following the cause, including Denise Smith.

Smith tells us the legend of the cranes has worked for her twin boys.

"One of them had to undergo a pretty serious brain operation and spinal surgery in July 2001, and those cranes hung in his hospital room until he was released," said Smith, hanging cranes now for Kyron. "And he is fully recovered."

More than 500 cranes and counting now hang from the Wall of Hope. Denham and those who join her are hoping the cranes will bring luck to any renewed search efforts.

“I'd like to really believe that legend that someone's dearest wish does come true," Denham said. "And so, if that's the case, we hope and pray for Kyron to come home.”

There is something very disturbing in regards to Kaine Horman's ablity to control the media.  In what is perceived as one of greatest democracies in the free world ... it should not have been allowed to happen.  IMO.

The search for Kyron began 10 days ago with no sign of the 7-year-old since his stepmother dropped him off at school on June 4.

Sheriff Dan Staton said, "We will be continuing this investigation. It is not going to stop and I am not going to cease in dedicating resources to locating Kyron."

Kyron's family has been largely silent since the news broke of the boy's disappearance, addressing the press just once, last Friday.

Tony Young, Kyron's stepfather, said, "I would just like to say Kyron, we miss you, we love you, and we need you home right now."

The only thing we know (and I live in OR so have read quite a lot about this case) is that the family immediately went into seclusion the first week of Kyron's disappearance, and -everyone- (and I mean everyone) remotely conected to the family has been absolutely close-lipped with regards to the families situation. There has been nothing in the way of family members or relatives talking to reporters and doing anything other than echoing the party line. Kyron's family has information about it's internal workings locked down so tight that it would put the CIA to shame, and they have managed the press to say what they want better than a lot of professional companies who manage politicians press interfaces have done.

The saga of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman got a little more bizarre today at a news conference held this morning by the boy’s family.

The event at Brooks Hill Historic Church was arranged on Wednesday by Kyron’s father Kaine Horman, biological mother Desiree Young and her husband, Medford Police Detective Tony Young.

Absent was Terri Moulton Horman, the stepmom investigators say was the last person known to have seen Kyron before his June 4 disappearance. Kaine Horman filed for divorce and a restraining order against her earlier this week. And she’s since hired star criminal defense attorney Stephen Houze.

Today, Kaine Horman and the Youngs sat at the head of a table in a room filled with more than two dozen national and local reporters for print, TV and radio. As the meeting began at 10 a.m., Kaine Horman started out by explaining “the agenda.” This wasn’t going to be a typical press conference.

Horman said the family’s goal was to make “the story” about Kyron. With news of the divorce and investigators homing in on the stepmom, media coverage (including in WW) has increasingly focused on Kyron’s troubled family.

First came Horman’s “ground rules,” as he described them. No cameras. No recordings. Everything was off the record and couldn’t be reported, unless agreed otherwise. Horman made everyone in the room agree to these rules before proceeding. And so this roomful of reporters consented, in essence, not to be reporters.

Horman then laid out how the meeting would go. They would take questions, make some phone calls (presumably to investigators, to find out what they could say in their answers), then return and make an on-the-record statement. But first, Horman wanted all the reporters he didn’t know to introduce themselves.

KEX radio, KATU, The Portland Tribune and “Inside Edition” all got the nod from Horman. But then came Shane Kavanaugh and Bryan Denson of The Oregonian.

Horman said the family didn’t like The Oregonian’s coverage and wanted them to leave. Horman said the daily had failed to be a “team player.”

“This is a team, and if we’re not going to play as a team, there’s no point in being here,” Horman said. “This is about Kyron.”

Denson objected, saying he’s new to the story and after 28 years in journalism he’s “a pretty good reporter.” But there was no arguing. The family wanted The O gone, and a woman who said she’s a manager at the church escorted them out. The biggest newspaper in the state had been eighty-sixed.

I introduced myself and said I’m with Willamette Week. Horman said the family has the same problem with WW. I agreed to leave. And so the paper with the second-biggest circulation in Oregon was also kicked out.

As far as I was concerned, after getting kicked out all deals were off. I wasn’t going to keep the meeting off the record.

According to a reporter who stayed, the family went on to lay out more “ground rules” for the future. They said they’d hold these “news conferences” (if you can call them that) twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, as time allows. They would make prepared statements, answer some questions submitted in writing and may also do occasional interviews.

“They want us to cover Kyron, and they’re not going to get neck-deep in gossip and rumors,” the reporter said.

ABC News convinced the family to make an on-the-record statement in front of one camera, with the tape available as pool footage for other reporters. After more than an hour inside the church, the reporters were sent outside while the family stayed in to prepare a statement.

The reporter at the scene said The Oregonian had somehow gotten back on the family’s good side and was among those waiting outside to hear the prepared statement.

At shortly after 12:30, the family emerged from the church and Desiree Young gave a brief statement in which she implored Terri Moulton Horman to cooperate with investigators. She also said the family believes Kyron is still alive. Check out the video with KATU’s coverage here

Optional actions for you:

The Intel network is large and wide-reaching.  Many have asked me what they can do to help us and my answer is the following:

1.       Forward Kyron’s information to as many people as you feel comfortable with; the more people that see this will increase our chances of finding him

2.     Do not speak to any media if contacted; I am trying to contact Intel legal to give them the heads up and help with this situation

Physical description at the time of his disappearance (picture is show in Becky’s note and here):

He is 3 foot 8 and 50 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He was wearing black cargo pants, white socks, worn black Sketcher tennis shoes with orange trim and dark-colored t-shirt with the "CSI" show logo

Some rough background:

The article that Becky forwarded is pretty accurate with details.  He was dropped off at school about 8:45 and went missing sometime between then and 9 or 9:30am.  We did not know he was not at school until we went to get him off of the bus at 3:30 and he was nowhere to be found.  The bus driver immediately called the school which responded that his teacher had not seen him all day in class, at which point we notified police in partnership with the school.  It is still unknown whether he left school grounds on his own or was abducted.  Be assured that there are currently an amazing number of agencies and amount of person-power being applied to the search and investigation.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers for Kyron’s safe return.  I will update the group once status changes which will hopefully be soon.  At the time of this note Kyron has now been missing for ~48 hours; time is of the essence.

IMO Kaine is not controlling the media ... LE is ... maybe through KH, D&TY ... and maybe not.  The only thing that has been sent out that I think maybe wasn't orchestrated by LE was the Intel email ... and I think that was orchestrated by Intel execs.  While trying to portray themselves as the helpful employer ... they also didn't want the media breathing down the throats of either them or their employees.  As I said ... all MO ...

Now could the media have done a more thorough job of investigating KH and the Y's ... probably (and who's to say they haven't but just not reported it yet because of the focus not being on them) .. but to what end when LE's focus is certainly on TH and has been since the beginning.

You are right they do fudge up names!  Both search engines.

Thanks for straightening us out about that property, Brandi!

Still something to keep in mind tho.  Even if she doesn't live there, that address is/was the billable address on DeDe's property tax record. 

And, whether or not she lived there, there's still the report that was made that Terri was seen coming out of a road onto NW Logie the morning of June 4th.  The farm connects to Logie. 

I'm hoping that LE has searched the area. 

What would one all do for a friend? Not starting anything, but if they were more then just friends, maybe I could see DeDe helping more then them just being friends. Not condoning it at all, just would somewhat make some sense to me if there was more going on, if that makes sense? Just can't picture doing something like what is being suggested for a friend of seven years.

It would be with a heavy heart but ... I know I would not coverup an act of wrongdoing for a friend or a family member.  Hubby and I have been put to the test and prevailed.

When our eldest son was nineteen ... hubby and I learned he was attempting to defraud the Provincial auto insurance company by falsely claiming tires from his precious Datsun 510 were stolen.  His plan was to to purchase new tires he had been drooling over in a catalog for months.

Thankfully the insurance adjuster (an angel) scared him straight at a meeting with two police officers and ... there were no legal consequences.  However ... hubby and I did not not know what the consequences would be when we followed through on our sense of what was right.

Skeletons in one's closet ... I'm sure we all have ... and I'm pretty sure KH probably has some.  I for one am not painting him with the magic fairy dust brush ... I also think any skeletons he may have .. he's given them up to LE ... because he wants his son back.  Same with the Y's.

And media isn't stupid ... from day one I bet they knew lots of things on every parent that we don't know ... yet they've chosen not to share ... and for media not to share means one of two things ... They are abiding by LE's "don't ask don't tell" plan ... or they know enough (that we don't know) to know that none of the KH or Y's stories mean anything to this case.  You can't tell me they don't know everyone who has gone through a search or a poly ... and yet they've only reported DDS.  There's a reason behind this.  The media doesn't stay quiet for no reason.  They don't sell papers or increase viewers by keeping mum.  IMO.

I.K.9.S.A.R.S. Is a FOR PROFIT Professional K9 Search and Rescue Team, which have DONATED over $32,000 dollars in DONATED Work on the Kyron Horman Case.
 
We've not been reimbursed one single penny for the work. Nor are we asking to be.
 
I have personally paid our of pocket, out over $1000.00 in fuel, motel, meals, and equipment, regarding this ongoing search efforts. 
 
The committee has who is accepting gifts of money to support the private search has received $310.00 in gifts from the general public to support this private search effort.
 
We don't call them donations as we are NOT a nonprofit organization, but in fact a for profit business.
 
So the gifts of money are NOT TAX Deductible. They are strictly gifts from well meaning people who support the volunteer search efforts.

The gifts support all the volunteer search teams who volunteer with I.K.9.S.A.R.S. Search efforts in helping the volunteers obtain reimbursement for the travel expenses should they request it through the committee.

During this search effort, there are two people who have repeatedly gone out of their way to badmouth the efforts of Harry Oakes and the committee on Face Book.
 
An attorney has been hired and we are going after these two individuals through both Criminal court for Harassment, and in the civil courts regarding liable, slander, and defamation of character, for their failure to Cease and Desist in their degrading comments.
 
I've also filed a complaint with the Oregon Dept of Justice regarding these two individuals asking for an investigation into their alarming statements and actions.
 
Regarding our private search efforts. We are turning over our findings to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Dept. on a regular basis.
 
Our prayers are with the family of Kyron Horman, Kyron himself, and to the dedicated law enforcement officials who are working on this case.
 
Our search will continue until Kyron is brought home.

From the person he wants to sue to Harry - On Friday, January 22, 2010, you emailed me threatening to sue me because I agreed, in a private discussion on a private Yahoogroups! canine forum, with another handler who listed your name as one of those individuals who are commonly thought to commit fraud or make fraudulent statements in regard to search and rescue, search and rescue finds, missions, deployments, and related activities.

In that originating email, in addition to calling me an "asshole," you wrote: Please send me and a copy to my attorney Charlie Ringo of Bend, Oregon, one single shred of documented facts, evidence, to support your claims and the right to bad mouth me. Just one. Over the last 38 years that has been an open challenge to assholes like yourself and not one of you has been able to provide any valid written documentation to support any wrong doing on my part in the SAR community.

Per your "request," I provided you with electronic copies, exact format, of your website, and its various changes, over the years in which you claimed to have responded to San Diego for a missing child from Sabre Springs, California. That was a search for an abducted girl, Danielle Van Dam, who was later found murdered. I first wrote to you shortly after that mission appeared on your "log page," but you did not respond.

In our January, 2010, conversation, you demanded proof of any malfeasance, misrepresentation, or other false act/claim. I provided you with digital copies of your website. You then variously altered your story, contradicted your own website claims, and flat out told me "it was none of (my) business," and further threatened me with harassment, retaliation, and District Attorney action.

Now, with the search for Kyron Harmon in Oregon, you and I seem to have crossed paths and swords again. Based upon your blog, MySpace account, Facebook account, and your petitions to others to contact the Horman family in efforts to force them to provide you with a scent article, your comments about the family and their unwillingness to use you and your sham services, and your repeated published requests for "donations," cash reimbursement, boats, helicopters, etc, I took issue with your integrity.

I posted three instances in which your emails and website appear to contradict outside, third party, neutral documentation, including in at least one circumstance The Guinness Book of World Records and in another, the State of Tennessee's death penalty record review in the case of Jacqueline Beard, and in the last case, your claim that you are the only canine handler in the world to have been asked to return to Turkey, post-earthquake, to teach SAR techniques and methods.

In your blog, you responded only to the Turkey claim, "clarifying" you were the only search handler from your team (MWSD), and that you did not see anyone else in Akut or Istabul - which radically changed your original statement and website that you were the only canine handler in the world to be invited back. You also did not address the Jacqueline Beard case, your claims about "world records" for canine finds, nor our January discussion regarding Danielle Van Dam.

For the record, as I assume you are keeping digital copies of all your emails and posts, so am I. For the record, this email has also been sent, blind copy, to multiple parties for integrity of record keeping.

Through your MySpace, Facebook, and blog, you have repeatedly mentioned that you intend to sue me, and have named me, among others, by name, and even linked your blog directly to me.

Mr. Oakes, for the record, there is NOTHING I'd like more than to face you personally in a Court of law, be it civil or criminal.

Based on your personally naming me, and linking your blog directly to me, I called Charlie Ringo, per your previous emails that he is your attorney of record, on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at (541) 330-6447, and left a nearly one minute (57 seconds) message with my name and phone number, requesting that he contact me for appropriate service delivery and method, as I recently moved. He is also cc'd on this email.

As of today, you have reported on your blog (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=127939120&blogId=537465079) that you have obtained both an attorney and filed complaints with the Oregon Department of Justice for "liable" (assume you mean libel), "slander, defamation of character," and more.

And since then both papers have been brought back into the fold.  IMO this was a little hint from LE ... hint being ... don't go rogue or you won't get the story from us when you want it (when something happens).  As I said ... JMO.

Speaking of hinkey ... I thought hinkey when I read Harry's site ... but me being so pro LE and him being so anti LE ... and with the truth in the middle (listen ~ I know LE isn't fallible and they are not all honorable ~ but I truly believe the majority are) ~ I chalked it up to that.

There is something very disturbing in regards to Kaine Horman's ablity to control the media.  In what is perceived as one of greatest democracies in the free world ... it should not have been allowed to happen.  IMO.

IMO Kaine is not controlling the media ... LE is ... maybe through KH, D&TY ... and maybe not.  The only thing that has been sent out that I think maybe wasn't orchestrated by LE was the Intel email ... and I think that was orchestrated by Intel execs.  While trying to portray themselves as the helpful employer ... they also didn't want the media breathing down the throats of either them or their employees.  As I said ... all MO ...

Now could the media have done a more thorough job of investigating KH and the Y's ... probably (and who's to say they haven't but just not reported it yet because of the focus not being on them) .. but to what end when LE's focus is certainly on TH and has been since the beginning. 

Have said it before and JMO from the very first day Kaine has kept very close and anyone close to him from being public, why I don't know, but he has.
Tony Young knows exactly what to and what not to say and reason the statements Desiree read where concise and directed to an individual (Terri) what do you call it mind warfare.  Quit sure Tony either wrote or knew someone to write the statements.
I think that DY and TY actually say and talk way more than Kaine does, he doesn't do the interviews they do.  Like the email they released his name was listed but listed last, out of most likely polite/etiquette.  But that email was written by the same person most likely who wrote the ones DY read.  The email / statement was direct to the point and saying we are coming after you next.
LE most likely does not have any other choice but to share what they know with TY, one professional courtesy and two they can't bullsh*t him....that is JMO<<<
