Awwwww

Could this be Sylar?  Would his body be skeletal remains within 16 days?

Hi Wyks .. they had a Doctor on NG talking about that. Your question above. He said indeed " if this is Sylar" his body could be at this point skeletal. * even in this short time* Due to the elements of the dry AZ heat.
  that if he was in *water for any great length of time, it would slow down the decomposition ..yet more than likely he would have fell victim to the heat/dry/air and animals/insects... ugggh. And very well could be " bones" at this time of discovery.
This is so sick, and so sad.

The "wash" were he was found - was not stated on NG if it contained water at the time of the body being found/ and or if it was dry. * NG was throwing around the theory that possibly Sylar was buried and with the last rains ..he was brought up. The criminal pro-filer " Pat Brown" said she was not buying into that Sylar could have been moved by animals and or anything alike. She feels that there is foul play involved. Her possible: that Sylar was dead before he ever left the tent...  (( Poor little Boy)) they were all talking at once, throwing possible theories around.  It has not been confirmed that is def him. Yet they are 99.9 percent sure it is Sylar.

YCSO Believes They Have Located Sylar Newton's Remains
August 10, 2010

Tuesday, 10 August 2010 17:40

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION – Skeletal remains have been found less than 2 miles from the campground where missing 2-year-old Sylar Newton was last seen on July 25th, 2010. The remains were located at the bottom of a wash and likely came to rest in this area due to recent flash flooding. At this time, the remains are believed to be that of Sylar Newton, but final confirmation is still pending. YCSO received the call regarding this discovery just before 1PM today.

YCSO detectives, assisted by FBI agents and a forensic anthropologist, are currently conducting an on scene criminal investigation as they recover the body.

No further details available at this time.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at (928) 771-3260 or the YCSO website: www.ycsoaz.gov

was this little guy really seen alive at the campground by others???
because if it is just coming from the "adoptive mother" that others were looking at this little boy, how do we know that Sylar wasn't already dead when she brought him to the campgrounds? she could have said that he was sleeping or something to the others that were camping with him and then took him to the wash in the middle of the night..just surmising this to make sense of the decomposition already set in...probably not what really happened but one never knows...or she could have put him there days  before they even went to the campgrounds, using the excuse that he wandered away? dunno...
but did anyone else see the little boy alive at the camp grounds for sure?

I hate to ask this ... but
Has any Monkey heard or read.

Do they/LE have proof by any of the other campers? That Syler was actually on this camping trip?

That Someone other than the family ' witnessed' him with this family? sigh.

Deenie, the Sheriff said at the news conference that several of the campers (non-family members) saw the little guy playing around his campsite as late as 9:30 or so, so he was there.

Going back to the very beginning, nothing of anything is clear from the jump - on the reporting.

Was said he was in the tent with the two 14 yr old boys. Christina's son and friend.
Then was said he was in the tent with Christina, CP's Mother and Christina's daughter

Was said in mixed media's ( don't know what to believe)
Things said - that CP was sleeping and woke up to find him missing
That CP went to the tent to find him missing, That he was put to bed in the tent. CP stating she did see him at 12:45 AM. Yet at 1:45 AM CP awoke to find him ' missing'.
___
911 Calls

CP did not call 911. If she did it was not recorded by LE.

The first 911 call was placed by CP's 14 yr old son's friend - a 14 yr old boy. (( disturbing)).
** Was CP aware that the 14 yr old made the call to 911?
** Did she tell him to place the call ?
I do not understand, with the seriousness of this situation Why? the 14 yr old non-family member was placing the call to 911 to report a missing child ( Sylar).
The 2nd call was placed by the Camp site ( Mgr) him not knowing much of what was going on, yet something made him place the call to 911. He asks the 911 operator if " there had been a missing child reported" ??? answer NO. No such reports.

Listen to the 911 Calls - The first call placed by the 14 yr old boy - was received yet transferred by the initial 911 operator to the sheriff and " the call was dropped/lost"  - apparently the young boy did not attempt to recall 911. Or was it that CP or Grandma found 14 yr old boy calling 911 and they did not want the call placed..the phone almost sounds as if it were " dropped literally" .. His words are strange too,, my friends, ah Mom, well his brother is gone, he's missing we can't find him.....
I don't understand putting the burden of calling 911 on a 14 yr old boy. ( Did they make him call 911, that he would not sound credible as a child/kid calling 911 after 2 am ? from a camp site? ) It is though, on record that neither CP nor her Mother placed a call to 911. Maybe the 14 yr old friend was "just trying to help" and was the only one that wanted to do " something right" by calling LE. Like a normal person would in an emergency.

Why was it was left up to " others" to call 911. Esp that CP is the last one to have seen Sylar. She would have the most information to offer LE.  Strange, the two adult women who were in charge of this " Family" camping trip fiasco ..were not able to call 911. Were they partying at the time " Sylar" was found to be missing.. and knew they were not able to talk to LE?? That they would " sound" irresponsible to LE.....  I think Monkey's know what I mean.
 Or was it that " they didn't want anyone to know LE wise " that Sylar was missing..because they have something to do with his demise.

I have a feeling between this clutch of " Family" and cohorts - someone is going to break down and start talking.  Once LE gets to the point of turning screws ..someone is going to squeak.
And pieces are going to start coming together.

Sylar
~ I am so sorry that you were dealt the adults, you were to have represent you, in your short life.

No one can misplace you anymore, no one can hurt you any more.

thanks Muffy for bringing this over...guess Deenie and I, great minds think alike huh? ....sad that we have to guess as to what went  on with a child disappearing..that a child is missing in the first place..sigh...

Within this Case of Sylar (( this is my viewpoint)) on what ever findings is the end result.

If it is proven " without a doubt" that Sylar was a victim of child abuse. That this was a false report. * the kicker there, is CP/Nor her Mom reported him missing *
That this is a true criminal case and it is found out that Sylar was  murdered by the hands of named in this case. That the " Named" allowed Law Enforcement and all that were involved within the SAR for Sylar ... That they allowed the SAR to continue, for him.
(( them knowing he was not Missing/ and was dead all that time)).

a snip of the SAR for Sylar:
http://www.prescottenews.com/news/latest/sylar-presumed-dead-search-investigation-continues
( this is the initial search- not including the Landfill Search)
Through Saturday, there were:

    * 380 searchers
    * 4109 man hours
    * 10 Department of Corrections (DOC) bloodhounds
    * 6 air scent and cadaver trained dogs
    * Specialty teams
    * Scuba
    * Swift water
    * Dropped cameras into wells
    * Side sonar to search water pools

Details about the search:

    * searchers lined up arms length apart
    * GPS tracking of teams - each line is one team of 15 people
    * Each team has a GPS device
    * The only limit was terrain that would have also limited Sylar
    * Grid searched 8 1/2 square miles, plus 31 linear miles on sides of roads
    * Every dumpster in the campground was overturned and sifted through
    * latrines examined, materials sifted through
    * Checked roadsides from I-17 to 260

About the searchers:

    * Mostly Volunteers
    * Volunteers worked every single day, average shift 10.8 hours
    * Ten cases of heat exhaustion - got treatment, and they'd go back out
    * Searched 24/7 all week long
    * Some used their own vacation time in order to help with the search
    * Regularly attend Search & Rescue academies
    * Trained in specialties such as: scuba, technical rescue, rapelling, even go into mines
    * Mounted and ground forces
    * All have been background checked

Also came from Coconino County agencies, Pima County agencies, Department of Corrections - "...you call them and everybody comes," said Newnum and offered an example. "We looked for the resource that we need, such as a side skiff water camera, and Pima County had that."

More about the bloodhounds:

    * Used sandals for scent articles
    * Found scent pools - show Sylar went to swimming hole to play. The bloodhounds would lead to bathroom, swimming holes, back to campsite.
    * The ten DOC bloodhounds used primarily to track felons away from prisons- did not want to leave the campground - even when forced to leave the campground to examine perimiter of search, continued to lead back to the campground.
--------
If it is found out that Sylar was a victim of his Custodial Mother/ Grandmother ... that All of this SAR ( Search/Rescue) was done on false lead/pretense to keep it going * not to stop it at one point..them thinking " He will never be found".
There should be a law passed " Automatic 10 yr sentence" on top of the charges.
 - for anyone that reports a child missing and they are found guilty of charges/homicide/abuse/conduct which ever etc- yet allow Local/County/State Federal/Volunteers/K-9 to continue SAR efforts.. whoever could allow this ~they are despicable. People can die themselves during SAR's .. LE/K-9 or Volunteers alike. In terrain like AZ .. its amazing no one was injured or worse. Not to mention the money/resources wasted. I do not know " who" found Sylar today. If it was during a SAR or it was by a bystander.. same same.. this is could have all been prevented " if " someone was to tell the truth ..( big joke I know/in a perfect world Gah).  Didn't stop the Anthony's either. Truth is not within them. This has to stop - Children are not dispensable and neither are our Law Enforcement/civilians/K-9's who dedicate themselves to find missing children/adults.

Thanks for all the updates and info/answers from NG and elsewhere.

Poor little Sylar.  He didn't stand a chance.

Sadder yet is that he already had one brush with death back in November, and for some reason, pulled thru.  It's as if he (and his 'so called' family) had been given a second chance.  When I see someone pulled back from the brink of death once, makes me wonder what important thing that person has in their future.  It's such a shame that it seems Sylar's caregivers didn't seem to see things that way.  I read where the biomom posted over on their facebook site that she just wanted one more chance with him.   Rolling Eyes  She doesn't seem to realize she already HAD that second chance.  Sigh.

Poor Sylar.  RIP sweet boy. You are loved and cherished in death, if not in life.

There was a caller on the NG Show the other night and she made total sense to me.
She said that she had been a Governess in her employment past.
She said to her it was very clear of what happened to Sylar. That the custodial Mom and Grandmother had left " Sylar in the care of the teens".
That it was late at night, and Mom/GMA were doing their thing. Left Sylar with more than likely the two teenage boys ..and they really didn't want him around. She called it Sibling Rivalry. One definition: Sibling rivalry is a type of competition or animosity among brothers and sisters, blood-related or not.
__
My brain thinking, of this day within camping.
It was HOT all day, and the kids more than likely were feeling the heat. They were to have gone swimming at one point. Seriously how much fun can kids have in the desert?
Unless you have " Quads" or some type of dune buggy etc.. Its just Heat and boredom.
( how long does the fun last? before your ready to go home) .. so with the allegations that Mom/CP is a smoker( mary jane) and that Grandma looks like she has had a few rounds with substances. Did they " the adults" leave Sylar with the boys that night?
-
The heat had to subside at one point, more than likely around 11PM ..
Recorded Weather of Rimrock AZ - on July 24, 2010 ( Sat / Technically was Sunday 25th/Sylar reported Missing).
                    Current        High          Low           Average:
Temperature:      84.6 °F      94.7 °F      68.4 °F      79.6 °F
Humidity:              37%        89%       30%           60%

source: http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KAZLAKEM2&month=7&day=24&year=2010

You can see the HIGH Temp was 94.7 ..so the heat index it had to feel like 100 degrees or higher- with 89 percent humidity. Even if you were soaking wet, from swimming, your hair/swimsuit etc would dry instantly. I would have to believe that the air was stifling uck.
--
Ok so you have been in this heat all day with " 4 " kids. Three young teens that need constant " something" to keep them busy .. and a 2 yr old. Who is not having the time of his life .. I am gathering. He is more than likely miserable. A hot sticky diaper on, and not much to keep him occupied. The 12 yr old girl ? maybe she would have felt sorry for Sylar and tried to play with him? ... Night time, the heat is now finally winding down and its late. Again more than likely closer to 11 pm. The older kids were either one of two things... getting their 10th wind for the day " now that it was cooler" .. or exhausted. My guess is that the cooler temps " woke them up a bit" and made them more alert ..rather than them wanting to sleep. CP/Her Mom felt it was then their time to kick back .. after all they were Camping..  right.
So, instead of putting Sylar in a tent all by himself, they stuck him in the tent with the teens. ( My thoughts are the 12 yr old girl stuck near her Mom/Gma) It's finally cooler, Sylar is ready for fun too. He is thinking WOW kids, boys like me... hmmm Fun Time. Yet the boys, were like...oh MAN ..not Sylar. We don't want him around. The boys either took him for what he was " a sweet innocent 2 yr old" or they played " Let's get Sylar" .. Sylar may even have enjoyed himself for a little part of it, then it went South and the boys got rough with him. Took out all their animosity of the heat, being stuck with him. CP/Grandma, ( More than likely telling the boys to be quiet/behave and watch HIM ) because they were having their own little party .. sitting in lawn chairs/or at a picnic table outside the tents. Sylar at the mercy of these boys. More than likely 14yr old step brother has had his full of Sylar at home, day to day, having to watch him. That this was him and his friend camping -and here he was again stuck watching Sylar. Him being peeved off. Anything could have happened in that tent with the boys.
__
My other thoughts are that during the day, and night - Sylar was not being watched, nor cared for properly. That he was possibly a victim of heat stroke or dehydration. That he was severely dehydrated - and he came off as cranky ..and he was put to bed in the tent alone.. and he was found dead in the tent. That they moved him, or had someone come get him. That he was deceased.
That his cranky mood was " Oh it's just Sylar" that they put him to bed,..even if he was given a bottle or sippy cup at this phase of dehydration ..he would not drink it. He would not be able to. Kid's and Heat are not a good Mix - when they have to rely on an Adult - that doesn't seem to give a flap. A pdf doc - that talks about Weather Temps and Dehydration
www.littleleague.org/Assets/forms_pubs/.../Heat_and_Humidity_Danger.pdf

This Vid has been put up many times. I want to put it up again. Sylar with his Bio Mom.
  I see it as, was more than likely Christmas. That Sylar was visiting. That he was made the center of attention ... He clearly looks confused. He appears not to know what to do, how to react. Why?? my opinion is ..he is in a room filled with Strangers. He has no clue who these people are. He appears to be detached, poor baby. He is not in stress or anything but ..he clearly is like ' Who are these people, and WHY? am I with them?" The elderly woman who is sitting in the back drop. Its written all over her face. " That poor little Boy, he's cute -yet if you watch her eyes, they dart to who is holding him, and at BioMom.. and you can see pity for Sylar " ... The BioMom's laughter just slay's me.. She sounds like a nut job. I think it's because, she doesn't know what to say, or how to connect with Sylar. She doesn't know him. He does not know her either, there is no bond. It's obvious. Around 2:30 in the vid, I believe she/BioMom is speaking to another child in the room. That the other child then takes over the camera ..and then Sylar starts to smile and react. He never though says a word. I wonder why?

Going back to the beginning of these threads, at what was reported, at our thoughts then....

I don't for a minute believe that a 2 yr old, unzipped whichever tent he was actually sleeping in, and in the dark of night by himself, wearing only a diaper, walked barefoot across rough terrain, from that campsite to the water.  Nope.  I don't believe that.

When we heard what the dogs did, circled around the campsite, not wanting to leave that area...... it tells me that Sylar didn't walk out of there on his own.  The dogs picked up his scent near the campfire area and tents, where he ran around playing, and no scent of him walking around anywhere else.

IMO, and until I read otherwise from LE, am of the mind that:  Sylar was likely carried to the water and placed in it by 'someone' from his own campsite that night.  Either already dead, or still alive, I dunno.  <cries>  Then, while everyone was running around yelling for him, his body was likely being taken downstream by the current.  When the rains came and created the water in the wash area, he likely was taken along by the current into the wash area, not actually washing ashore until after the searchers/dogs had cleared that that area.

Custodial mom and family likely didn't want to make that 911 call themselves, and had the 14 yr old do it instead, because neither adult prolly wanted yet again another official charge of 'false reporting' placed against them.

This whole thing just reeks.  That baby did not manage to get to the water himself.  Not over rough terrain and him all of 20 lbs and barefoot, in the dark of night.  Else the dog would have tracked him straight from the tents to the water's edge.  But they didn't.  Their handlers made the point that the dogs didn't want to leave the campsite.  That's where his scent was.  That's why we didn't know if Sylar had been put into a vehicle at the campsite and taken away or carried over to the water, placed in it and swept away by the currents.  If there isn't an arrest made and justice brought on Sylar's behalf, I dunno what the public can do.

Wyks, the sad thing is that you are likely right in these statements.  Something happened there that night.  The likelihood of him walking about in the dark by himself and not making any noise is pretty much nil.  Oh it breaks my heart to know this beautiful little boy is gone.  The mischeviousness in his smile reminds me of my own 18 month old grandson.

maybe the teens were left in charge of Sylar while the adoptive mom and the grandmother did go party...
perhaps the teens left Sylar alone to do some fun things themselves while mom was gone? didn't zip the tent...didn't think that anything would happen while they weren't watching him..dunno...
what happened after that is anyone's guess until we get the official words from LE...

I haven't seen official confirmation yet the remains found are Sylar Newton, even though it appears it's very likely they are.  If and when there is an article with link, we can (with heavy heart) move this thread to the dreaded "Missing Found Deceased".  Bless little Sylar  an angelic monkey

Foul play suspected in disappearance of Arizona. boy
AMANDA LEE MYERS & FELICIA FONSECA • Associated Press Writers • August 11, 2010

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A criminal investigation is under way after skeletal remains believed to be that of a toddler reported missing more than two weeks ago were found near a central Arizona campground, authorities said.

The remains were found at the bottom of a wash less than 2 miles from the Beaver Creek Campground, where 2-year-old Sylar Newton of Flagstaff was last seen July 24, Yavapai County sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

Authorities believe someone tried to hide the remains and they ended up in the wash after recent flash flooding.

"Somebody didn't want us to find him," sheriff's Capt. David Rhodes said.

No suspects have been named, but D'Evelyn said foul play is suspected. He released no further details. An autopsy was planned.

It's the second time this month that a 2-year-old boy has been found dead in Yavapai County, but authorities said the cases are unrelated. The body of Emmett Trapp was found in a mine pit Aug. 4, two days after he wandered away from home.

Sylar was staying at the campground near Rimrock with his custodial mother, Christina Priem, and her family when he was reported missing. Rimrock is about 40 miles south of Flagstaff.

The investigation took a grim turn last week when D'Evelyn said investigators didn't believe Sylar wandered off on his own, as Priem said, but was taken from the area and feared dead.

"It's going to take some time to sort all of this out," D'Evelyn said Tuesday.

The remains were discovered by a distant relative of Sylar who lives in the area and had periodically been searching for the boy, Rhodes said.

Searchers previously walked up and down washes, and scoured a landfill, trash bins and other areas of the campsite for more than a week. Rhodes said search and rescue crews looked in the general area where the remains were found but not the exact spot. He added the search was conducted for someone who was lost, not concealed.

"We were confident that anywhere he could have wandered or walked away from the campsite legitimately, we had covered," Rhodes said.

Authorities still are looking into custodial issues involving Sylar, Priem and Sylar's biological mother, Charity Newton.

An attempt to reach Priem by phone Tuesday night was unsuccessful. Matt Gramelspacher, a friend who answered the phone at Newton's Jasper, Ind., home, said Tuesday she was not able to answer questions and directed all queries to law enforcement.

In a phone interview last week, Newton told The Associated Press she was pregnant with Sylar when she met Priem through Priem's sister Sandra Shoemake.

Newton said she was "messed up" back then and knew she couldn't take care of her son, so she considered having Shoemake adopt him. After having a dispute with Shoemake, Newton gave temporary custody of the boy to Priem, according to Newton and a Flagstaff police report from 2008.

Newton declined to comment on the investigation, saying authorities had asked her not to.

According to a police report, authorities visited Priem's home in January to look into what was determined to be an unfounded report of child neglect regarding Sylar. At the time, Priem said Newton had given her full custody of Sylar 1½ years earlier. Priem said she hadn't heard from Newton since, the report said.

Authorities said they have found no paper trail of adoption proceedings involving Priem and Sylar.

Police reports show Newton had at least two other children — one of whom tested positive for marijuana in 2004 while a newborn. Newton's rights to another child were severed, and the child was considered a ward of the court, according to a 2004 police report. The report also noted Newton had a history of substance abuse and mental health problems.

In the case of the other toddler found dead in Yavapai County this month, authorities said 2-year-old Emmett Trapp walked 3 miles barefoot through brush and steep terrain into a mine pit, where he was found dead. He was still clad in the pajama top and diaper he was wearing when he wandered away from his home in Dewey-Humboldt two days earlier.

I'm with you...and Deenie's idea about the teenage boys. I believe that this precious little boy was YET AGAIN neglected so the adults in his short little life could continue their selfish, self-centered behaviors, and somehow in all the midst of it, Sylar perished. I think this may have started off as an accident (Sylar followed the boys down a too-steep cliff; Sylar got overheated and his heart couldn't take it; Sylar's "siblings" were playing with him too roughly, etc), and that the crime occurred once his death was discovered. One or both of the boys - or even one of the adults - took his body to the wash and tried to cover it up, then tried to pass it off as a potential kidnapping to cover their tracks.

Such BS. I am so tired of watching these irresponsible hormonal idiots continue to bring children into this world who never really have a fighting chance.

I'd be leaning on the two boys because if anyone would crack, it would be them.  I think the first story of Sylar being in the tent with them is the truth.  Seems like nobody in that family really cared about that little boy.  Poor little guy, R.I.P.
