4donks, have you thought about putting in a swamp cooler? I'm not sure how they work (google is your friend!) but I know lots of folks in the south use them instead of A/C...much cheaper to operate. Since your barn is so big, I dunno if that would work...but it's worth a look.

What a good idea Tevye. Hubs has been thinking of putting one in his barn. His barn isn't as big as 4 Donks.

Swamp coolers are usually used in dry areas in high humidity they don't work but I am seriously thinking of building an air conditioned stall so if one is doing poorly they could get repite from the heat. That way I could afford a room unit that would work for that area.

I was wondering if you could either build or section off a part of the barn where they could get respite from the heat when it is really bad.  Just a small area where they could be together or separate.

My glasses didn't cost as much as I figured, but because we have eye care insurance it knocked two hundred bucks off, thankfully. Also got a prescription for allergic/dry eyes. So it went real well.

That's great news No Rose. So glad they didn't cost as much as you thought.

JSM..that was an interesting tip about the cell phone battery and when traveling..Last time we were in the Ozarks, my phone was all messed up...then a few days later, even while we were still there, it came back on working...I have since gotten a new phone but I will be on the "aware" of taking that battery out if it acts up...

Cookie, I didn't know about the battery either. I guess it is worth a try.

Babybear, here is more on the story.   Parts of the Tisbury Great Pond remained closed yesterday but others were open after new testing brought the bacteria counts back down to acceptable levels. Powers said he couldn’t say whether the first family should avoid swimming in the pond during their 10-day Vineyard vacation.

“It’s not my job to recommend or not recommend whether or not to go in the water,” he said. “I just get the numbers and take the appropriate action.”

But when we asked another town official whether or not it was safe for the prez to take a dip in the pond, he was a little more informative.

“Depends on whether or not he likes to swim in poop,” joked the longtime islander, who shall remain nameless.

More than 200 Massachusetts beaches have been closed due to high bacteria readings this summer. The high counts are usually caused by sewage or storm water overflow but could also be caused by domestic or farm animals and wildlife.   

  Let him swim in poop!!! He has already turned our country into a cesspool 

Thanks No Rose--Interesting.  Such a shame as Martha's vineyard is so pretty. I had an interesting conversation there years ago with a man who was deputy sheriff when Kennedy cause the death of that poor girl. 
As far as I'm concerned, swimming in poop is too good for him.

Who lets a fire burn all night?    I wouldn't feel to neighborly either, I have Sudafed and other allergy meds here, and nothing touches this darn headache. The kitties will love their treat

Grand daughters are playing games on the other computer...beds are made...we all slept well last night...them probably better than me..but it was all good...Next onto breakfast and then who knows what for the rest of the day...running around..

My little grand daughters cast is starting to smell a bit...she gets it off in 9 days..any solutions for "freshening" it up a bit? can't get it wet..She is really starting to get some irritation around her little hand where the cast rubs and also at the top of her arm where it rubs..I put some chafing cream on it this morning to give her some relief..her arm really itches too! hubs had the brilliant idea to get a long knitting needle which is plastic to scratch her arm..fits really neat into the cast...she loves it that she can scratch her arm...
I will be at the lake next week when she gets her cast off...(:

Now that is a good way to scratch the arm. I've never had a family member with a cast so I don't know what to do with the smell. I'm sure after awhile it would smell, and the doctor must have a suggestion. Thankfully that darn thing will be off her arm soon

Morning Cookie. I just asked a girl that had a cast on her elbow for four months and she said there is nothing that will freshen it up.  Sorry, wish I could help. I'm glad it is coming off in 9 days, I bet she can't wait.

I suppose that her arm sweats under there and it emits some smells...not real bad smells but just something that this nose detects...she would be mortified if she thought that anyone could smell something on her! but only 9 more days...on the down slide now...
