Yes, I'm ready for football.  I'm tired of watching baseball and hearing about A-Rod.  Even though I don't follow college I do read what you all have to say.

TV is just awful and at least football gives us entertainment and surprises.

San you follow pro?  your team the Giants?  My 7 yr old nephew is in love with them - not sure why but he is.  LOL

Huskers should be loaded at offense this year - defense ... gulp... a mystery.  We had alot of seniors and we're planning on letting quite a few freshmen give it a shot.  You know what that usually means.  Oh well.

Wow glad to see some people back! Michigan is a real unknown this year. But glad to root for the Cowboys and Huskers this year. Still a few missing here!

Good to see you guys... I got on the NC/SC game... not too exciting but just the sound of the whistles is exciting.  lol

I'm going to our game this Sat night against Wyoming.  Going to be hotter than hell but ... we added 10k seats and remodeled the side of the stadium our corporate seats are in so that will be fun to see.  They are using the space under the seating to house a state of the art, one of a kind research center for brain injuries/concussions.  A statue to Bob DeVaney will be unveiled tomorrow as well outside the stadium.  Our brand new basketball stadium which is unreal just got opened today and the whole downtown area has been impacted - tons of new restaurants, bars, shops.  I'm sure they'll show some on the TV when the game gets out of hand.  (well it had better get out of hand haha)

We lucked out - the beginning of our season (other than ucla) gives us lots of reps for the many many freshmen starters.  Hopefully by the time we meet up with you Kiwi our defense will know what they are doing.

I saw where OK St was ranked all over the map and wondered about that.  Fickle voters and polls..

Good luck to all.  Keep posting - good to see you guys!

How about the Ole Miss/Vandy game last night!!! I just saw the last quarter but it was really exciting!!! What do I say about my beloved Razorbacks... Picked either last or next to last in the SEC!! Hope our new coach Bret Bielama's energy and optimism picks the team up!! He has a great personality (unlike Bobby Petrino) now let's see if his coaching record at Wisconsin carries over! And as always WOOOOOOO PIG SOOOOOOIEEE!!!

Cuz great to see you join in the fray... I didn't get that game but heard about it.  I am headed to Lincoln for our game in a few minutes - I think you play at the same time so I will miss your game.  Fill me in.  Good luck.  All I know about BB from Wisc was he was known to be pretty wild - he was a bachelor for most of his tenure there.  lol

Hope we hear from None.  No update on how her daughter is doing - has me worried.

Take care all -

You Betcha ... Last nights Clemson - Georgia game was an instant Classic!!!

Death Valley was rockin' last night. People who live near the stadium were tweeting that their houses were shaking. Smile

I had a friend at the game from work, he said that the atmosphere was unreal for the first game of the year, or any game. Felt like it was for the ACC championship. Go Tigers! That's why I have come to love College football to much for than the NFL these days. The atmosphere and tradition is just fantastic.

Hey Frijole, as I have always said there are two seasons, Football season and not football season

I would love to know the following of other college programs from those that follow their teams, what are your traditions, pre-game/post game?

Like at Clemson they have the touching of Howard's Rock and running down the hill onto the field on to Clemson Memorial Stadium

Hello again,

Son is in his second season as a GA, making all A's so far and their program is now in the big east. Bigger news is that he has a new girlfriend we adore - former Ole Miss cheerleader but also a biomedical nurse, plus does triathlons and is gorgeous? Daughter is now in radiation for her tumor post successful surgery. I'm visiting her this weekend but back to the west coast tomorrow.

College football is the best and hoping I can make a few of son's games. The UGA vs Clemson game was outstanding and I had friends there too Red, they said the earth shook in Death Valley. One of them actually played safety for Clemson when they were last Natl's champions back in the day. Needless to say he was over the top.

to everyone's favorite teams this season!

Good question... I'll tell you what we do here at Husker Nation.

You might have noticed but everyone here wears red and I mean everyone even if they are staying home to watch the games... going to the grocery store is a trip because everyone has red on.

At the game the fans get red balloons which are released after the first score.

Our team comes out of a tunnel and it is called the Tunnel Walk.  Actually they start filming within the athletic complex as Bo and the captains walk them down the hallway to a red carpeted area under the stadium.   There is a lucky horse shoe that they high five. I've taken my nephews down there to see it firsthand - cool stuff.  Anyway the players walk on the carpet slapping five and stand by an entrance ... all of this is a part of a film production that is put on the big screen TVs so the fans are clapping and stomping and it gives us all goosebumps.  They run out on the field as the band plays.

Another tradition is our Blackshirts.  It is the nickname for our starting defensive players.  In the 60's a coach asked someone to go to the store to buy some T shirts that were a different color so they could distinguish offense vs defense at practice and that's how it started.  As the team became successful in the 70's etc the Blackshirt tradition included "Throwing the Bones" which is crossing the arms in the air to simulate the skull and cross bones (think pirates).

Honestly Nebraska fans love their defense more than the offense... which is why we are really upset with Pelini right now.  LOL

Go Big Red!

None - special hugs to you and yours!  So grateful to hear from you again as we were worried.  Continued prayers for dear daughter.  Proud of son.  Hope you are doing well also!

So what did everyone think of their games last week?  I'll go first.. I about crapped myself.     Words can't describe it.. we had the game in hand and our O decided to take the foot off the pedal and OMG we almost lost to Wyoming.  Bo would have been hung before midnight.  We'll see what they are made of this week but all eyes are on next week when we play UCLA.

Hope all is well with Monkey's from across the country. May we have wonderful college and pro football seasons with as few injuries as possible, in such a violent sport.

Huskies win their home opener against #19 Boise St, 38-6. Pretty impressive to hold Coach Peterson's Bronco's to only two field goals. The real test is going to come next week against the Illini, on the road in Soldier Field.

I will provide a link for everyone to see the first game in newly renovated Husky Stadium. If your team ever plays the Huskies, it is a must see game. Scroll down the pictures to some of the overhead views of the stadium and location. I may be biased but, there isn't a better venue. Bow Down!

On a side note. I just finished up my first quarter at the UW, and ended up with a 3.0 GPA. Setting a goal for the Autumn quarter to raise the GPA and get on the Dean's List. Go Dawgs!!!

Glad son found a keeper that you like none!! Hope the radiation treatments do the trick without too many side effects. I know you must have been beside yourself after all you went thru with your husband. You are all in my prayers!

Good to hear all the college traditions.... So let's call those HOGS!!  lol!!! Wooooo Pig Sooooooieeee!!! Arkansas has one of the most unusual mascots for sure!! Had a little scare today against Samford.... Only 31 to 21 but its a win and we are 2 and 0!! We really have a special freshman running back from south Florida in Alex Collins! Actually 2 great running backs, both had over 100 yards for both games!
