I received an email this week that is heartbreaking.......

Our friend and fellow poster BigOrangeCrush lost his son to a sudden death recently. I know Bean has often asked about him and he's BigOrange due to his allegiance to UT. That said, they still don't have all of the medical answers regarding what caused his son's death yet but I know all of you share in the sympathy and prayers we want to send out to his family during this most difficult time. God bless each of them.
My prayers and sympathy having walked that path with my mom a few months ago.

I am so very saddened by that news, none. Thanks for letting us know. I will have BOC and his family in my prayers.

Gosh that really is terrible.

yes it is so tragic and BOC and wife built a wonderful family with devotion to their children and their children's devotion in return.

nonesuche thank you for letting us know about BOC's son.  I'll keep them in my prayers.  I've often wondered about BOC.  He was one of my favorite posters.  Always took his wife to dinner on Wednesday.  Silly the things we remember.

Well the season is on, one can tell from all the comments

Even ESPN was discussing how rabid the debate will be around the Boise cupcake schedule and honestly I was shocked VT's defense didn't get their game on sooner. Foster has been the DC for Beamer for many years and even ESPN was stating how good he is? I don't feel qualified to comment for due to son, I know more about offensive strategies than defensive ones.

I liked the black helmets but I surely didn't like those orange cleats  Monkey Devil!

Kiwi - buy some tickets for you can always sell them, even online. I can email you where to find those types of exchanges to sell tickets.

GO - replied to your email my friend

Cuz - you're going to have a tremendous season with your QB Mallet.......last night I was thinking just watching the first week of games ( not all but some) that this might well be the year of the QB for so many teams?

Great defense is very unpopular right now. It's more about a showy kind of offense and big scores. Not that anyone can tell.....but I'm not a big fan of that kind of inbalance....

I think it makes games very boring when all they do is run up and down the field with very little resistance. It's kind of a fad that came in with the spread offense....which is compensation for teams with a mild-mannered defense. Defense is not as important if you have a team that puts 50 points on the board. Protect the blindside, and that's about it. That's what we see everywhere now. Yawn....I prefer more of a challenge.

I agree PDH, for example, watching Tulsa vs ECU those were my exact thoughts. Just score at will..........

I still say defense wins championships, in football and in basketball.

I saw the announcement about Bush and the Heismann and like you, I think it's disgraceful all around. Again, the BCS and ESPN fueled this 'build a dynasty at any cost' approach to college football and it's slowly destroying it now.

you're welcome snoopy, I hope you and your family are well and content.

BOC is a tremendous person and helped advising me with son's future when Rick was no longer here to help. I remember the Weds date nights too, and how I admire their relationship.

Hello snoopy!  Good to see you posting on the football thread, but I sure do wish it was about a happier event. BOC is sure a beloved poster on SM, and we all feel so sad for him and his family. He is a true Southern gentleman. May God grant him and his family some comfort and peace.

Come back and talk football with us snoopy.

What a tough trip to Provo.Bottom line,we just didn't get it done and take advantage of our opportunities.I will say that the setting of Lavell Edwards stadium was absolutely beautiful,it was about 90' degrees and when the sun set,it was PERFECT.Spent some time in Park City,as well as Sundance which is absolutely Gods country.

The red field at Eastern Washington is atrocious. The NCAA should have intervened if they have the control over EWU.We'll have to wait and see if what Carroll is doing is going to work or not.If Josh Wilson and Tj Hous help Baltimore get deep into the playoffs I'll be a bit disappointed with those moves but, what do I know!

none.....please give boc my sympathies... he was a great supporter of natalee and always made an effort to connect with me which a greatly appreciated. i know his family is devastated.

i jumped ahead of myself a week....we don't play alabama week after next ....we have to go thru georgia first. 2 tough games in a row.
speaking of defenses...it is early...and hard to gauge against last weeks opponent....but our defense looks greatly improved over last years disaster.
we are going to need it!

cuz I'll email you but yes, I will be sure to let BOC know of your support, affection, and prayers

I think I saw somewhere that UGA had lost a starter or two to misbehavin? I fear I didn't notice who they played last week either, but you have Mallet cuz and he's going to lead that game well. This is his year to shine. Get your piggy on

On second thought....I'll take two dozen each if we can eat them in the Dawg House and they're calorie free...

Bring a raspberry cheesecake too....

We play Mississippi State tomorrow night ( Thurs.) at 6:30 Central time. Everyone, including Vegas, has us losing to the Dawgs....

This is the same bunch that has Boise State at #1 for beating an over-ranked Va Tech, so what do they know anyway?
