I certainly pull for cuz's team but I have to say I do love McElroy for he's been such a good friend to son and also set such a great example as a person and a player - but may the best team win. With Mallet on the Heisman watch it's surely a great match-up.

pdh, hope you can stay calm during your boys game

Here's another article. I wonder if this will make the NCAA take a look?

WOW, this is like the year of the truth in football

Saban cares only about winning, it's not personal to him because he doesn't build close relationships with anyone but boosters & that is only a means to an end. Bama wanted a NC above all else and he delivered, the boosters were willing to pay for it. It's a business, much like corporate america and Wall Street.

To be fair, the good things about Saban is that he's obviously good at spotting talent and cultivating talent, and at building a system to develop players. His strength & conditioning program is likely the best in the country, and you don't gain a starting position without working your a&& off either, regardless of who you are. However, he does give scholarships to players whose father's have tight relationships with boosters and it appears he's done that again with two this season.

That said, a colleague at work I greatly respect stated that we're watching the death of the american dream at this moment, and it appears college football is not exempt. What do players learn from coaches that play the system to their benefit, despite the ethics or lack thereof? What kind of men do they become as a result after football? I don't think the analysts are surveying those impacts........nor will they ever.

Hopefully these articles and those willing to write them continue to push to expose this, or those like Dr Friday will continue to speak out about the issues, the greed driving them, and the impacts.

Some of the players profiled in the last article PDH posted like Alfy Hill should have a bone of contention with the NCAA, particularly when ineligibility rests on courses taken in high school prior to their senior year. Maybe the NCAA isn't funded well enough to supply the staff to make these determinations timely, but if that is the case (I don't believe it is), Alabama should be calling them out for this - but it appears only his HS coach is - instead Bama won't return the HS coach's phone calls? ECU can use Hill, it should be a star-making opportunity for Hill since their gap at linebacker is as wide as the Mississippi this season.

For those coaches who make it their life's work for the love of the game and have a conscience regarding their players and recruits, let's pray we don't lose them for tiring of the external politics thanks to the NCAA that hurts their programs and places them at a disadvantage they shouldn't have to endure.

I guess I ran everyone off?

PDH, just heard the analysts predicting a win for you today !

I also hadn't heard about this but it's up on ESPN today and it's just so tragic.

Oh, so happy to know they are friends! I love me some GMac! He is so smart and talented and well spoken. I admit I may have cussed at him alittle last year but boy howdy did he win me over in the SEC championship game. I am so thankful that he is our leader. We heart the ginger!!!! Roll Tide Roll

Yeah notice how they only cite 3 players and of those 3 only one is disgruntled? Plus none of those 3 played football anywhere else either, I believe. Great journalism there WSJ

lol you do realise that Auburn has been doing the same thing for years up until this year? If the NCAA starts "looking into this" then they will have to look at everyone in the top 25 because they are all doing it. Now I'm not defending it. There was a really sad story about a kid that enrolled early to LSU, moved into his dorm and everything and then Miles did this to him! There are some kids out there that get shafted big time and it's not right.
