I must say I thought Baylor would beat OK, but I did not see Stanford beating the Ducks. They seem to have their number as for all but the final 5 minutes of the game I did not even recognize who Oregon was in the game.

Look for Stanford to vault ahead of Ohio St. in BCS.

Oregon had a humiliating loss to Stanford.  I haven't recognized Oregon since the UCLA game.  Wonder if there is some kind of internal turmoil.  Stanford played a great game!

Sorry Klaas - I cheered the Ducks on but Stanford played solid - man it was like watching Husker teams from long long ago.  I got sick watching that. Credit them for not giving up and making it close at the end though.

Kiwi - you still around?  We got a game this weekend and both fanbases are feeling the same about the game.  Our team is so psychotic here's my prediction - either you beat the crap out of us (another national embarrassment) or we come from behind and pull of the upset in the last few seconds.  As you can tell I need to seek treatment.  lol

Conventional wisdom says that if Alabama and Florida St win out, they will play for the final BCS National Championship Game.

But this is college football and anything is possible. We have seen over the years major upsets that have turned the BCS on its ear. I personally believe that there is a lot of football to be played.

However, it is also the reason why I have always wanted a playoff system in NCAA football and it would be easy to incorporate the bowls in the mix, if they wanted to. I think there should be 8 teams not 4. I think that there should not be a month off before the teams play. Why can't they play 3 games over a 5 week period? And have the final game 1 week after New Years?

I am a traditionalist and actually miss not having all the Bowl games on New Years Day. So even with a top 8, I still think they can keep all the Bowls in tack because anyone who is playing a lesser Bowl like the Music City Bowl knows they are not winning a National Championship. Also, anyone playing in a BCS Bowl knows they are not either, because only the 2 teams in the Championship game can.

I say make it top 8, that usually is a good sampling of the contenders vs. pretenders. Will there always be teams that are disappointed, of course. Heck, NCAA basketball had 64 teams and teams on the outside looking in complain.

Remember when that was the one day out of the year when we were able to see the most games of any day like 8 to 9 games? But instead they spread it out to one game a day for $'s.

I just went thru my cable schedule today and w/o counting access to any on special sports packages I will have access to watch 26 games.

Any thoughts?

One of the real good stories of the 2013 college football season is what is going on with the Minnesota Golden Gophers and them playing for their head coach who struggles to control his epilepsy.

Minnesota beats Penn State to earn fourth straight win
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=333130135

Quote
Since head coach Jerry Kill took a leave of absence from the job to treat his epilepsy, the Gophers haven't lost. He has gradually reassumed his responsibilities and watched the past four games from the coaches' box above the field. The Minnesota students chanted "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" as the final seconds of the game ticked down, and the Gophers players sprinted across the field to repossess the Governor's Victory Bell trophy for the first time since 2004. Penn State won the previous four meetings
.

Gophers football: Minnesota rings up fourth straight win
http://**/sports/ci_24491516/gophers-football-minnesota-rings-up-fourth-straight-win

Quote
But this University of Minnesota football team has made those wins an expectation. And the goals are much higher.

The team has won four straight Big Ten games for the first time since 1973. The eight-win mark has been reached for the first time since 2003 -- and only the fourth time in the past 45 years.

It seems like ages ago that this team started the season 0-2 in the conference. But the Gophers (8-2, 4-2) haven't forgotten how bad it was then.

Red,

Yeah my team got beat by that MN team - I think it was the first game the coach didn't coach.  Glad to see it wasn't a one day thing.    Seriously it is cool to see them winning.  I'm not sure if Coach Kill will be able to keep it up as the stress of the game is impossible to lessen.  Even as a fan it can get to you!

Re the playoffs - we'll see how it goes with the top 4.  Should be interesting.  No doubt the current system is just about the money - and ironically they shoot themselves in the foot because fanbases are not willing to dish out big bucks to go to some of the ridiculous match ups they have put together the last few years.

Glad to see Klaas' Ducks are back on top, she rules

Did anyone see the hail Mary tip-off grab for Auburn to beat UGA in the last 25 seconds? I wish PDH was still here, I bet she was dancing.

Son's team has had a challenging season but finally got a good conference win on the road. I"m heading out next week to spend T-Giving with him and to make the game post the holiday, then back to the west coast. If they make a bowl maybe I can make it for that one as well - we shall see. Still on the west coast but heading back east in January - hallelujah!!

I am glad to see that Red is still writing about the BCS - you tell 'em!

Bean I hope we have better seasons soon!  to thecuz, Sharon, & wreck.

I was at the Auburn - Georgia game.

Yup - that Hail Mary pass was quite exciting (for me, anyway).

The stands were still full and the crowd went nuts.  It was one to remember.

None,  Thanks for the update on son.  Give him my best.  Glad you get to be with him for the holiday.  And that you are coming back east - am sure you are happy too!

Klaas - wow that was unreal.  Kiffin must have really been dragging that team down huh?  It's like another team entirely already.  Amazing transformation.  I still don't like them either but.. ha

Hi all sorry I've not checked-in in awhile. Bean that was a close game with Michigan and what a risk with the fake field goal. They both are sitting at 7-3 now. Everyone else seems to be having a great year! Getting down to the National Championship!

Hey Cadillac, check out your Auburn Tigers ... #4 in the AP polls this week
http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings/_/poll/1

The SEC flexes their muscle as they have 4 teams in the Top 10.

Obviously if the Crimson Tide and Seminoles win out, the BCS Championship game is set, but what if that does not happen? The situation with FLA St QB and rape allegations are a wild card.
Also, say Bama loses to Auburn in the "Iron Bowl" and the Tigers go to the SEC Championship Game. And the Missou Tigers beat #12 Texas A&M next week and go to the SEC Champ game as well.

I would say that it is completely believable that the winner of the SEC Championship game would leap-frog Ohio St and play in the BCS Champ Game. In Auburn's case it would mean that a #4 Auburn team would win in back to back week's against 2 time defending champion #1 Alabama and then defeat #5 Missouri.

In #5 Missouri's case, they would have beat #12 Texas A&M in final game of regular season, then play either #1 Bama or a #2 or #3 Auburn team, depending on who wins the Iron Bowl. If Missou does manage to win both, how do you not make them one of the top two teams in the country?

All Ohio St has left is a game against a disappointing Michigan team (7-4) who's biggest win is against an even more disappointing ND. So this game can do nothing but hard OSU in the rankings. Then OSU plays a#11 Michigan St in the Big 10 Championship game.

1 Alabama (56) 11-0 1,496
2 Florida State (4) 11-0 1,444
3 Ohio State 11-0 1,375 http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/194/ohio-state-buckeyes
4 Auburn 10-1 1,294  http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/2/auburn-tigers
5 Missouri 10-1 1,202
http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/142/missouri-tigers
6 Clemson 10-1 1,196
7 Oklahoma State 10-1 1,177
8 Stanford 9-2 1,002
9 Baylor 9-1 976
10 South Carolina 9-2 960

Just saying. One way or another, a SEC team could be playing in the BCS National Championship game if Bama slips.

Things have been looking up for my Cowboys! We have gotten stronger each week. Our big rivalry game with Oklahoma is in 2 weeks -- anything can happen, but at least the game is in Stillwater!

My money is on the Cowboys in this one. They looked really impressive against Baylor. There is no way they will take the Sooners lightly in such a rivalry game either.

Hey Wreck, what happened to the Big 12, I thought they had two divisions, a Big 12 Championship game and um, 12 teams? When did that change?

Nebraska left for the Big 10 after tiring of Texas  trying to control the whole conference. That led to to Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado and Texas Tech exploring the  possibility of combining with the Pac 10. Things blew up and Colorado joined the Pac 12, A&M and Missouri bolted for the SEC. Now down to 8 teams, the Big 12 brought in TCU and West Virginia forming one single division of  10 teams, all playing each other every year. It's been like this since 2012.

Personally, I think we are going to all "Super Conferences" and an 8 team playoff (as a minimum) in a few years.

Wreck - that was the best on paragraph synopsis of Big 12 history ever written... concise and to the point.  I watch your team whenever I can and they look good.  You will beat OK this year.

To all - have a great Thanksgiving!  Lots of rivalry games this weekend.

We play Iowa who someone decided is our rival.  Our 3rd string QB who happens to now be our starter (injuries) was interviewed and asked about the rivalry.  It was funny.  He said "Rival? I didn't know that.  Well I guess since we are playing for a trophy it must be one so "yes" I guess they must be rivals plus it helps you writers who have to write a story.  He's a senior living the dream since Taylor M was injured.  Five years on the bench and he now gets his time.  (He threw the hail mary pass)  Watching the smile on his face is the highlight of the season for me.  And I mean that!

Anyway good luck to everyone's teams.  Travel safe and enjoy the holiday.
