Casey's defense questions dozens of officers
By Jacqueline Fell, Reporter

ORLANDO --

It was one law enforcement after another in the Case Against Casey.

Anthony's defense lawyers spent all day Friday questioning law enforcement officers from the state and county. But her attorneys said it was a waste.

The lawyers got through a lot of deputies. Thirty-five had originally been subpoenaed.

Anthony's defense said they shouldn't have had to question all of these law enforcement officers.

"It's the policy of this office to list every single person who drove by and waived," said Cheney Mason, one of Anthony's lawyers. "We're going to wind up taking well in excess of 100 depositions that should never have been taken."

The defense by law has to question under oath every witness the state has labeled category "A", meaning they may have material evidence likely used in trial. Anthony's attorneys said these officers aren't important and won't likely be called at trial.

"These are people who may have collected something, an item of evidence and then turned it over to someone else. People who showed up and conducted one interview. People who sat in while another detective interviewed," Anthony's lawyer Jose Baez said.

The defense questioned 13 officers before lunch with a two-day total of about 35.
So far, Anthony's defense said none of the officers should have been deemed a category "A" witness.

"We've asked the state to discriminate on these categories so we wouldn't have to waste our time and money," Mason said.

"Apparently it's office policy to designate everybody. Everybody, no matter how minor their role, is as a Category A witness," Baez said.

Attorneys said everyone has been cordial and cooperative. The judge has placed stern deadlines on both sides to get these depositions done or else the judge will start scheduling them himself.

Sunny
It's becoming obvious that gerlado is  assisting his friend Jose to taint the jury pool the hispanics most likely  in the Miami viewing areas. I somehow dont think gerlado has a big    amount  of Spanish speaking viewers that care for him. I dont like him never have his arrogance and shady dealings turned me and anyone I know in my area that are hispanic. its clear what their intent is and it just pisses me off that geraldo could do such a thing just because he is hispanic.

Morning Monks!  hi loca!  I am not sure Geraldo has a following....he must have some super contract w/ Fox, is all I can say. After he exposed where our troops were in Iraq on National TV, I think anyone with a lick of brains, regardless of their heritage, wrote him.  I think he and BOZO being friends is just what a reasonable person would expect from either of them  Let's face it they are cut from the same cloth and it has nothing to do with being Hispanic

Morning, all!  Thanks, Trimm for bringing this in.  As usual, the defense is talking out of both sides of their mouth.  First Cheney says the State listed everyone who "drove by and waived".  Then, Baez says these are people who collected evidence, conducted an interview, or sat in on an interview.   Hello!!!  If a person collected evidence, he/she's witnessed what was found, where, and the conditions surrounding the find.  If a person conducted an interview, he/she witnessed who said what, what was said (or avoided), and the demeanor of the interviewee.  If a person sat in on an interview, that made him/her a witness to what was asked, what the answers were, and the interviewee's demeanor.  Yes, the State listed these people as witnesses because that's what they are!  Undoubtedly, the State listed these witnesses as Class A.  Given the defense's propensity for filing sub-par frivolous motions, subpoening people for depositions (or failing to) and then canceling depositions, complaining there's not enough time while they give repeated media interviews and facebook, this is the only way the State can guarantee that all of these witnesses actually get deposed by the defense.  It eliminates the potential for the defense to claim a mistrial because they weren't informed of these witnesses prior to the trial.  I love me some FL State's Attorney's office prosecutors!  As for Mr. Cheney's inherently false statements, he should be prosecuted for jury tampering, IMO.  He flat out lied when he said that the state listed everyone who "drove by and waived".   He should keep his mouth shut.  I hope he knows he's responsible for every idle word that comes out of his mouth.  Once again, the defense wants someone else to do their work for them, as evidenced by: "We've asked the state to discriminate on these categories so we wouldn't have to waste our time and money," Mason said.  First of all, that's not the State's job.  Secondly, that sets the State up for a mistrial.  Baez and company are so out of their league here.
Well, time to run!  Have a good weekend everyone!  Happy and safe Labor Day!

Loca, this person is delusional. He uses "Class and Dignity" in the same sentence as "Cindy Anthony". I don't know whether to laugh or be offended.

Casey Anthony: The night ’selfish, sick, crazy’ Casey Anthony opened for the Beatles, courtesy of Geraldo Rivera
Caylee and Casey Anthony, Fox News Channel, Seinfeld, The Sopranos — posted by halboedeker on September, 5 2010 11:34 AM

Geraldo Rivera’s 40-year career retrospective last night on Fox News Channel was edited in a memorably strange way.

A segment on the death penalty segued into a Rivera editorial on Casey Anthony, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The bit on Anthony played right before Rivera looked back at the Beatles. It was the night Casey opened for John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Rivera decried the death penalty because of a “largely imperfect system that sometimes places a higher priority on getting a conviction than on seeking the truth about whether or not someone actually committed the murder for which they are about to lose their life.”

Rivera said the ultimate punishment “is not appropriate for a selfish, sick, crazy mom who kills her kid, like Florida’s Casey Anthony. Trying to execute her is a political act, not justice.”

But that was all about Anthony. “Let’s lighten this up,” Rivera said. He turned to the Beatles and interviews with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and  John Lennon. In new footage, Yoko Ono saluted Rivera as a good friend and highlighted his efforts to help the mentally disabled.

Rivera’s retrospective on “Geraldo at Large” — it repeats at 10 p.m. Sunday on Fox News Channel — reminded viewers of his roles as reporter, entertainer and showman.  Which role does he enjoy most?
Geraldo has appeared in episodes of “Baywatch” (taking on David Hasselhoff), “Seinfeld” (the series finale), “The Sopranos” and “My Name Is Earl.” Rivera became the face of “Trash TV” — on a Newsweek cover — after his nose was broken on his talk show.  And Rivera replayed his failure to find anything when opening Al Capone’s vault.

Rivera also used the retrospective to address a low point in his career: When he drew a line in the sand in Iraq in 2003, outraging many viewers.  He ran afoul of military authorities and agreed to leave the country.

“While I took full responsibility for that line-in-the-sand fiasco, it was, ladies and gentlemen, totally overblown,” Rivera said.  He said his competitors used far more sophisticated maps to indicate troop movements.

Rivera even pulled in Gen. David Petraeus who congratulated and thanked “the one and only Geraldo Rivera” for telling stories in “his uniquely Geraldo way.”

The retrospective was all about Rivera taking a bow, and he boasted that “my entire adult life has played out in public.” Last night was another chapter — one bewilderingly constructed — in the very public life of the one and only Geraldo.
