HOUSTON — A man invited into a Houston woman's home and allowed to care for her 92-year-old mother has been charged with aggravated sexual assault after the mother was found near death in her bathtub.

Fifty-six-year-old Dean Wood remained in the Harris County Jail on Sunday. His bond was set at $500,000 pending a Monday court appearance.

Jail records don't show an attorney for him.

Police officer Matt Brady says the woman's 60-year-old daughter was having Wood help care for her mother, who had Alzheimer's disease.

Brady says a family member found the 92-year-old unconscious in a tub at the house Friday night and Wood sitting on a couch.

The woman died a short time later. Brady says preliminary autopsy results showed possible signs of sexual assault.

Elderly Woman Dead After Found Naked in Bathtub

HOUSTON - A 92-year-old woman is dead after she was allegedly raped by a man she tried to help.

The elderly woman's granddaughter returned home to find her grandmother naked and barely alive after the brutal attack.

The three women who lived together in a southeast Houston apartment unit had to learn the hard way -- the man they took in was not who they apparently thought he was.

"He was a good guy. He would dance with her. He would give her ice cream. I mean you would not think there was a bad bone in his body," said the victim's granddaughter Julie.

Dean Wood, 50, who made an initial court appearance, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of an elderly person.

In the probable cause court hearing, the prosecutor describes 92-year-old Flora Ryan as having dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

"She weighed approximately 78 pounds and was exceptionally frail and barely able to walk," said the prosecutor.

Ryan's granddaughter Julie said she left Wood and the elderly woman watching television in the unit before 7 p.m. Friday.

The 28-year-old woman said she returned almost 30 minutes later.

During the probable cause hearing, the prosecutor described what she said happened next.

"Found the defendant sitting in the living room drinking. The complainant was gone. The granddaughter heard the shower running in the bathroom. Went in to find her grandmother laying in the bathtub naked."

"We pulled her out, tried to give her CPR. She came back to life in my house, died on the way to the hospital," said Ryan's granddaughter.

It was the Ryan's 60-year old daughter who police said met Dean Wood and gave him a place to stay.

"It just seemed like he had a rough life and my mom was just trying to help. My mom knows how it is to have a rough life. My mom is a good-hearted person. She can't turn her back on nobody," said Ryan's granddaughter.

Police are awaiting autopsy results to find out how the 92-year-old woman died.

Wood is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Dean Jerome Wood, 50, has been charged with murder in the death of a 92-year-old woman.
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man who authorities say sexually assaulted and killed an elderly woman has been charged with murder.
ean Jerome Wood, 50, is accused in the death of Flora Ryan, 92. Wood was charged with aggravated sexual assault of an elderly person on August 22, but the charge was upgraded to murder yesterday.

Police say officers were dispatched to assist HFD personnel with an individual, later identified as Wood, causing a disturbance on the scene of a sick call at 1300 Redford. Officers arrived and were advised that an elderly woman had been found by a relative unresponsive in a bathtub. Ryan was transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Officers detained Wood and he was booked into jail on outstanding warrants. Further investigation revealed he sexually assaulted Ryan.
