Oh JSM---I'm so upset about Joe.  Somehow I have become fond of him vicariously or something.  He is such a brave little guy and has been attacked by dogs before and he must be frightened. Anyway, I hope his eye wasn't injured and he isn't feeling too bad.  The so-called owner of the dog which attacked him should be hunted down and made to pay his vet bills at least.

JSM, I hope Josef will be alright.  I saw where you said he was losing weight and went to find a recipe for "Satin Balls", which are used to help a dog gain weight, and then I see Josef's been injured.  Poor Josef.  I hope he gets better.  There are a number of recipes for "Satin Balls" on the internet, and they are a healthy snack that will put weight on a dog quickly.  It isn't meant as dog food, it's meant as a treat to go with dog food.  "Satin Balls" are used for dogs that have been ill or that are rescue dogs and are underweight.

 SATIN BALLS

This recipe is one for putting weight on an animal quickly, as some use it for putting a couple extra pounds on a show animal prior to the big day, or an animal that may have been ill and needs a weight gain program.  It has also been reported that this recipe will help with some forms of hair loss, such as when your dog(s) blow their coat, to keep the coat healthy and shiny.  This recipe is entended to be fed raw.

10# hamburger meat
1 jar wheat germ
1 lg box of oatmeal (uncooked)
1 1/4 Cup vegetable oil
10 eggs
10 sm pkgs unflavored gelatin
1 1/4 Cup unflavored molasses
A pinch of salt
1 lg box Total cereal (2lb's)
(You may also add a pinch of garlic powder to add flavor)

Mix all ingredients together well, much like a meatloaf....put into separate freezer bags and freeze, thawing out as needed.  It puts weight on in a very short time, not to mention the gloss in their coat.  You can use it every day  when they have a show to do and it does not produce diarrhea.  It can be fed  alone or with kibble.

BETTY LEWIS' SATIN BALLS

I don't like the Satin Ball recipe b/c of the sugar- laden Total Cereal. Here's the fat ball recipe that helped put weight on Druid.

        1 lb ground beef
        1 8 oz pkg cream cheese
        1 jar all natural peanut butter
        1 jar (smaller of the sizes) wheat germ
        1 doz egg yolks
        1 cup or so of flaked oats soaked in heavy cream

Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement.

How to Make Satin Balls (for dog who needs to gain weight)

Things You'll Need:

    * 1 pound hamburger (NOT lean)
    * 1 1/3 cups Total cereal
    * 1 1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal

    * 1 package Knox unflavored gelatin
    * 2 tablespoons virgin olive oil

Took Furby to the vet to have her bloodwork checked for her meds and to have her routinne shots and tags done. The vet does not want me to smoke around her so no smoking in the house or vehicles. I have smoked for 50 years and currently smoke 3 pks a day. Guess I have to stop cold turkey. The last time I quit I lost so much weight that I started back up again. Anyone have suggestions for me. HELP !!

4 donks, I too am quitting. I'm using the patch and it really helps. I don't want my big boss to know I smoke, so guilt plays a large part of it  And then when I get home at night, I'm now much more conscious of how much I smoke, I'm thinking in a few weeks I won't smoke at all!!!! I hope so, I hate the way people look at you when you smoke, and I hate the way it makes my stuff smell. Then, it'll be fun getting DH to quit...he wants to, but we're smart enough not to try it at the same time. (I already know I'll be a "I only smoke when I drink" person...but I hardly ever drink...sooo

I used the patch when I flew to Ireland. I figured I would be mean as hell after 12 hrs of travel without a ciggie. Went up to the barn and shared ciggies with donks and thought about it and think cold turkey is the way I'll have to go. I live alone so if I get cranky it won't affect anyone. The dogs will keep me balanced I hope.
It would be harder if I lived with a smoker....Good luck

JSM make sure the apartment manager is given written notice about the dog attack. If they do nothing about this woman and it happens again go after the apartment management. They should be held accountable if they are aware of a dangerous situation.
Before I moved to the boonies and lived in the city if a dog bit another dog or person it was required to wear a muzzle if outside the house even in a fenced yard.

Thick is one thing you are not. I have seen you in your skating outfit and Girly Your are NOT Thick.
My brain works in mysterious ways. John Travolta was dubbed Thick when he was Vinnie Barbarino .. he wasn't thick, he was a kid ..he was healthy. Then he changed shape and was to be a Dancer in all his movies afterward.. and Man can he Dance.  Whoo he is talented. I LOVE HIM ... I don't care what anyone says .. He is awe to me.  He has been every shape, size and it does not not reflect upon his Talent. His talent is within. I love to watch him Dance. He mesmerizes Me.  Love Travolta. I think he is a remarkable being as well.

I do have a point of bringing him up. I met a girl when I was 16, we had never met nor had any knowledge of each other.  She and I became friends. She was an Ice Skater. We met in High School.  She started ice skating when she was 3 yrs old. I went to her house a few times. Her parents house was a living shrine of her Ice skating .. ribbons, photos, trophy's .. Everywhere was her Ice Skating. She was very active, she skated, she played Volley ball, she water skied like an acrobat, she was very intune with her body. She was always weight training for years.  She did this for Her. Not to impress anyone. She was "Thick" because she WAS. She would admit I am Thick.  She was blessed with a healthy body that was Short. She was only 5'1. She had a BUBBLE Butt that was solid as a Rock and thighs to Match and You know what ..as much as she would wish she had long legs thin and fine ..She was Okay with it. Because She knew .. and didn't have to prove Nothing to No One. I will never forget her. I always thought she was so inspiring. She is still, from what I hear she is a skating coach for young girls at present.
Just Like You JSM .. You don't have to Prove anything to Anyone ..Your training and Talents are Yours and IF anything you need " Positive thoughts" not negative. YOU are NOT Thick!   Tell Mr. Hung to Get over his preconceptions of what a talent should look like !! You take Care of You.  I love my Sister. I took Josef outside and saw a lady walking two dogs. I turned Josef away from where they were walking and one of them got off the nose harness. It started after us and the dog attacked Joe. Finally she got it and started to hit it.  I had Josef by the leash off the ground so he didn't do anything to the dog. Once she had her dog controlled, I looked at him and he was bitten on the nose, the belly and the eye. I have been at the vet tonight and when I asked the lady "does your dog have shot records, she turned around and said, he only bit him in the butt, but I do have them upstairs". WTFE.... I have never seen her or her dogs, so they must be new here. Even my nosy neighbor hasn't seen the dogs or her. This dog was mean as heck. Poor Josef has been sedated, like in a coma. I wanted to let you guys know why I haven't been in the cage tonight. Thank God I have CC to help me through this because I am losing my mind. I will post pictures of the baby tomorrow. Animal control can't do anything until I know the owner. I don't care about the vet bill, I care about her POS attitude and don't want it to happen to another dog.

OH JSM, I just caught this Post of yours. OH I can't even fathom what you felt to have that other dog attack Josef .. I can hear it in my head though, the dogs being caught up in a fury.
TOO Much .. I am glad that the Ahole with the other dog was able to control their dog. Her lack of compassion for Josef and you is astounding. What a POS.
I have had some issues with Deenie and my Cats that scared the living hell out of me.. that I thought Deenie's eye was missing one time.. in my own care, in my own house, and I almost fell out .. because the cats were both hissing at me, moaning at me, looking at me ..because I was brave enough to pick Deenie up and swaddle her. She weighs 9lbs. Dewey weighs about 14lbs and TT weighs over 25lbs. Dewey was the one to attack, TT followed up with beating up Dewey .. claws and fangs ..because TT heard me scream ..chain reaction that went out of control within one minute. Animals will always be what they are. Territorial. I don't even recall what set Dewey off to attack her in the first place. She happened to be in the room and Dewey was in one of his Moods.. he is feral..he can switch hit within his moods ...within a blink and he does at times scare me. He can act out and be so unpredictable.
My thoughts and prayers are with Josef. Deenie sends her licks to her Doggy friend.
I will look for your new posts.  I am sooo sorry this happened to Josef and You.

I took Josef outside and saw a lady walking two dogs. I turned Josef away from where they were walking and one of them got off the nose harness. It started after us and the dog attacked Joe. Finally she got it and started to hit it.  I had Josef by the leash off the ground so he didn't do anything to the dog. Once she had her dog controlled, I looked at him and he was bitten on the nose, the belly and the eye. I have been at the vet tonight and when I asked the lady "does your dog have shot records, she turned around and said, he only bit him in the butt, but I do have them upstairs". WTFE.... I have never seen her or her dogs, so they must be new here. Even my nosy neighbor hasn't seen the dogs or her. This dog was mean as heck. Poor Josef has been sedated, like in a coma. I wanted to let you guys know why I haven't been in the cage tonight. Thank God I have CC to help me through this because I am losing my mind. I will post pictures of the baby tomorrow. Animal control can't do anything until I know the owner. I don't care about the vet bill, I care about her POS attitude and don't want it to happen to another dog.

I had one doxie(my Bama) die from being jumped on while he was leashed,and Digger was a close call when he was younger.Luckily now most of the dogs right here get along,but I keep my babies in as much as possible.

I hate cleaning the mess    It is awful when a dog gets off a leash and attacks another dog. That happened to me once and I got in the middle and I'm the one that got bit with the dog hanging onto my arm  It was bleeding so bad all the way home, the dog was a chow and he wouldn't let go of my arm.

All I can say is God help the owner of an animal that hurts any of my pets because I'm old and haven't got that much time left to spend in prison .
