What is really strange, before I knew Kyron loved the song Fireflies. Until Kyron, I never knew the song existed.  - I asked Brandi to put firefly's on me monkey and I even made my myspace background firefly's held in a jar - All the time was Kyron missing ..sorta ?? is it or ? I so wish for a drop of information ..anything at this point.  Where you are Kyron? Such a sweet boy missing for too long without a trace.

For safety, Portland-area schools get serious about visitor badges, locked doors, phone calls home

Statistically, school is one of the safer places for students to be. But Kyron's disappearance from a school hallway during a morning science fair -- and the long hours that elapsed before his father learned the boy had not been in school -- raised awareness that schools don't always monitor who's in the hallway or communicate with parents that a child didn't show up.

A full-blown video surveillance system, complete with high-precision cameras and full-campus coverage, has been deemed too expensive to install at every school (although Skyline got one through a corporate donor). But inexpensive auto-dialer programs and vigilant school secretaries in the front office can make an important difference, school officials say.

Nowhere are the new procedures expected to be enforced more stringently than Portland Public Schools. Any adult visitor will be required to wear an official PPS color-coded badge -- yellow for visitors, green for volunteers who've been through a criminal background check. And adults who visit frequently will be pressed to upgrade to the green pass.

"It's a safeguard," says Portland public information officer Matt Shelby, who helped set up the badging system. "If someone is wearing that volunteer badge, you know they have had a background check."

Hillsboro also has switched to a color-coded badge system. An orange badge signals an approved volunteer who has cleared a state or national criminal background check.

"It's another safeguard to assure our community that we're doing everything we can to make our schools safer," says Casey Waletich,  district operations coordinator.

With about 1,000 volunteers screened so far, two who were barred from helping out in Hillsboro schools objected that their background should be considered acceptable, Waletich said. But the district held firm. "Those people are not volunteering in our schools," he said.

I love Israel - he is amazing. He still is amazing and offering his legacy - I love his version of Somewhere over the Rainbow more so than Judy Garland .. Yes I do.

 I watched this vid of Israel countless times, and never realized he had left us. I never understood this was a mixed message, his beautiful works - and his funeral at the same time.  His voice is permanent in my mind.  He has touched so many people in his life... He is still alive to me.  His legacy lives.
