OTTAWA HILLS, Ohio (WUPW) - The Ottawa Hills Police Department is investigating the abduction of four year old Ronald W. Root by his mother, Katrina (Jones) Root. The pair have been missing since 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13 from Ottawa Hills, Ohio.

Family members have stated that Katrina is delusional, has been diagnosed bipolar, and believes people are going to harm her. Katrina has not taken her psychotropic medications and family members have witnessed psychotic actions leading them to believe she may be a threat to herself and her child.

The family believes she may be on the way to the Chicago area or North Carolina.

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday afternoon for a 4-year-old Ottawa Hills boy who is believed to have been kidnapped by his non-custodial mother.

The suspected abductor has been identified as Katrina M. Root, who drives a 2010 silver Subaru Legacy with Ohio license plate EYD 7574, according to the Ottawa Hills Police Department.

The boy, Ronald W. Root, is described as a white male, 3 feet tall, weighing about 35 pounds with blond hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt with a Transformers logo and khaki pants.

Ms. Root, 36, is described as a white female with brown hair and green eyes, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a yellow sun dress with a flower pattern and silver sandals.

According to the Ottawa Hills Police Department, the mother and son have been missing since 6 p.m. Monday from an Ottawa Hills home at 2409 Orchard Rd.

Family members believe Ms. Root may be heading to the Chicago area or North Carolina and are fearful she may be a threat to herself and her child, the police department said.

Missing Ottawa Hills boy, 4, found
September 14, 2010

A missing Ottawa Hills boy, for whom an Amber Alert was issued yesterday, was found safe tonight in Madison Heights, Mich.

The boy, Ronald W. Root, 4, was abducted by his noncustodial mother Monday evening from 2409 Orchard Rd., where he lives with his father.

They were found in the suburb of Detroit after running out of gas. The mother, Katrina Jones Root, called her ex-husband, who is the custodial parent, and he called Ottawa Hills police.

Ms. Jones Root, 36, was arrested and booked into the Oakland County jail.
Family members had told police that Ms. Jones Root believed people were out to harm her and was unable to care for herself or the boy, village police Chief Robert Overmeyer said.
