According to police reports, Ponson was confronted on the beach Saturday by a group of people who asserted he had harassed them by recklessly operating his personal watercraft. In the ensuing altercation, Ponson allegedly struck a man in the face, then fled the scene. The alleged victim, who turned out to be a local judge named W. Noordhuizen, was hospitalized, and Ponson was later taken into police custody.

Messages left at Noordhuizen's office were not returned yesterday, and a receptionist said he was on vacation.

Lejuez acknowledged alcohol was involved in the altercation, adding, "It was Christmas Day. People were drinking and having a good time. So people were under the influence of alcohol, but not only Sidney."

The two acquaintances who were arrested along with Ponson released themselves on their own recognizance four days later by cutting through the bars of their cells with a saw and bending them apart. The escapees were apprehended on Sunday, reportedly in possession of $20,000 cash, drugs, jewelry and a police scanner

thanks Klaas, I guess I wasn't clear on which judge, I meant the ruling judge on Ponson's case - but the judge he hit in the face wasn't a name we've heard prior? Maybe he got smart and got off the island?

I can't imagine hitting a judge in the face altho there are a few on Aruba I feel sure we should hope have a swing or two tossed their way  Wink

where is San ?  Laughing

Klaas didn't we look into Ponson's trial in Aruba and he had Smid or another judge also in the Holloway case? I recall some sort of connection but don't you just love he had to stay away from those who really know him? Another one of Aruba's fine native sons with inside connections  Rolling Eyes

I don't know who the judge was in the Ponson case but i do know that the decision was used as a cite in the ruling that released Joran. Some tortured connectivity between Joran's need to continue his studies in Holland and Ponson's need to work in the U.S..

Maybe the wiretaps were " illegal " as they were done by the FBI in Aruba and that is why they have just now surfaced.  Would have had to be done before Paulus was arrested.

And maybe the wiretaps are why they fought so hard to keep the FBI from being involved in the case.

I was just reading an old article that was posted on another blog.  It was part of the National Enquirer article when the reporter went to the Netherlands and interviewed Joran:

The National Enquirer claims Joran Van der Sloot stated the following admission: In a dramatic new twist, Joran then claimed that after leaving the bar, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe drove him and Natalee to his home — not to the beach. Kristina said: “They went to his home for a while and then to the Holiday Inn, where she was staying.

“They decided to go for a walk on the beach, and the Kalpoes left. He told me, ‘Natalee was totally wasted, and I was drunk. We had sex on the beach’.”
    [/list]

I believe they did go to his house and that is where she was murdered.  He went back near the Holiday Inn to temporarily bury her with Paulus.  This is why Paulus said he picked Joran and Natalee up at 4:00 am because it was just the opposite it was a drop off.  JMO.
