  I Don't  feel a ray of hope about this.  But I have been wrong about that before.
If this is  Natalee's bone we will never know ...

I am surprised that Aruba just idn't have Dennis Jacobs examine it for them.
After all, he does have forensically trained eyes, as previously proven.
In the past, he has been able to make crucial investigative decisions, on the spot:

(1)Deepak's backseat was scanned and determined that no blood existed, just chocolate and cleaning fluid.
(2)A belt that was turned over to him was deemed completely irrelevant.
(3)Blood on an abondoned mattress was declared dog blood.

With Dennis Jacobs on the scene, there is no forensic lab needed.
In fact, his trained eyes are better than any lab that exists in the world.

I find it unusual that the media is all over this.  Normally when a bone is found in Aruba it's dismissed and that is the last we hear about it.  If we ask later, they claim it was a donkey bone or monkey bone but not human.  This time is different.  WHY?

Interesting ain't it.  I don't trust one thing coming out of Aruba.  Did they use this as an opportunity to say hey we can finally put an end to this nightmare.  With Paulus dead and Joran in jail this would be their only chance to return Natalee's remains to Beth.  We shall see what happens.

And if they say it was Natalee is this the only evidence they will return to Beth.  Let's face it they had Natalee's remains all this time.  We want all of her to be returned.

My thoughts on this is that is would be a perfect time to "find" Natalee and for Aruba to try to save a little face since Joran is so hated.  Of course they will say they tried to do the right thing blah, blah, blah.  They will still not have enough evidence to try Joran, but will have an "out" or so they think.

Well, I'm confused.  If the jaw bone found had only one tooth, a molar, then I'm hard pressed to believe it might be relevent to Natalee's case.

I admittedly don't know the degradation effect sea/salt water has on teeth, but I would expect that Natelee's own lower jaw would not be so degraded, i.e. would have more teeth, after only 5 years.

I'm so with you guys on this. I heard Fox report on this at 6:30 this morning and immediately thought that if it's perceived as beneficial to Aruba, Beth just may get something to bring home. That's a wonderful thing and I want that for Beth.

Personally, I do not believe any of Natalee's remains just happened to wash ashore near the location Joran stated. If this turns out to be from Natalee, then it has been orchestrated IMO. With the latest publicity from the DeVries documentary that ended with the promise to return in 5 years, Aruba may have decided that if Beth was going to continue to be a Bulldog about this, they'd literally throw her a bone.

Well, I'm confused.  If the jaw bone found had only one tooth, a molar, then I'm hard pressed to believe it might be relevent to Natalee's case.

I admittedly don't know the degradation effect sea/salt water has on teeth, but I would expect that Natelee's own lower jaw would not be so degraded, i.e. would have more teeth, after only 5 years.

I really don't know how degraded it would be after being in the water for 5+ years but we don't know the cause of death either.

Thanks for the big welcome 2NJSons_Mom.!  I’ve enjoyed reading the posts here for yrs.

My mind is just spinning with this news and my heart is filled with hope!   

I wonder what kind of impact this will bring in the treatment of the “NARSA King” at Castro, Castro.  I wonder if he has heard the news and what his reaction is.  I wonder what the general Peruvian reaction is.

As far as I am concerned Aruba doesn’t get the easy out.  They don’t get the out until FULL JUSTICE prevails and even after that should they really get an out at all? I mean, this wasn’t just an Ooops!  It was a murder with united continual mass corruption and it was wrong on so many levels. Not so easy to sweep under the rug!

They say the truth comes out in the wash so lets hope this is it!

I agree they have known all along but

Wouldn’t that be a Big Mistake them “Throwing her a bone”.  I mean the case hinged on “No body, No Crime” saying they could only speculate that a crime was committed.  This would not only prove that a crime was committed but also in the general vicinity of where the suspected crime was committed and in connection with Joran’s past confessions.

Of course we all know Arubans can’t add and 1 + 1 doesn’t always equal 2 there but they will be hard pressed to stand by in idle if this is actual evidence.

Just wondering if anyone knows how that would go.

I just cannot get it out of my mind that this timing could be so very convenient.   I have felt for a while that any time now something may turn up.  Just enough time since the heinous act of killing Stephanie.  Far enough away from Natalee's disappearance to actually be able to tell anything from the remains. If  this is Natalee, there is no doubt in my mind that this was planned.  Joran has gone above and beyond to prove himself a sociopathic lying killer, so the general public would not believe anything about a cover-up in Aruba coming from his lips, so Aruba can let Natalee go without most people knowing the truth.  No one, except a bunch of monkeys......

I had the same thought as Lifesong, but you make a good point, Klaas, about the cause of death & water degradation.

Noticed earlier that when I went to Yahoo's main page, where they have Trending Now....Natalee Holloway was #1. 

Shortly thereafter, our cable went out and it just came back.  The weather is crappy today, so maybe some wiring is askew somewhere.

Dr. Baden says they must know it is human or they would not have sent to the NL.

I don't know the protocol, but I doubt that IF the jawbone was Natalee's that it would suffice bringing charges against Joran.  He's retracted his stories and I would doubt that a single jawbone would prove his guilt in Aruba or Dutch law (which we don't understand).  jmo

If someone is hit by a car their jaw could be shattered
If someone is shot by a gun - hit with a bat

Good question.  Let's just say Joran is found guilty.  We have heard many say that Joran would be out of prison by the age of 30 if he is found guilty (depending on the charges).  Is this a way for Aruba to say we are next in line regarding charges and Joran then returns to Aruba where he will go free.

Makes me wonder.

You are probably right. I am a bit naive about the reality of it all when I want to see true justice on this case.  A girl can hope though! You gotta believe it could happen!

THE HAGUE, Netherlands -- Dutch forensic experts are testing a piece of bone found on the Caribbean island of Aruba to see if it comes from missing American teenager Natalee Holloway, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Experts first will establish whether the bone is human before comparing its DNA to that of Holloway, said Netherlands Forensic Institute spokeswoman Inge Oevering.

Holloway, then 18, disappeared in 2005 while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. Her remains have never been found, despite extensive police searches. If the bone turns out to be from Holloway, it would be the first concrete evidence of her death.

Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, who faces separate murder charges in Peru, is the last person seen with Holloway and is suspected in her disappearance.

The Dutch daily De Telegraaf reported Tuesday the bone was found by tourists on a beach last Friday. The newspaper reported it was a human lower jaw bone, but Oevering said the bone was still being analyzed to establish whether it was human.

It's been five years since 18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. Now, Joran van der Sloot, the last known person seen alive with the young Alabama woman, has confessed to hiding her body in an island marsh, according to a Dutch newspaper, and admitted to Peruvian officials that he murdered 21-year-old Peruvian Stephany Flores.

   

Oevering said prosecutors in Aruba will announce the results of the tests. She could not say how long the tests would take.

Van der Sloot is in jail in Lima charged with killing a woman in Peru five years to the day after Holloway's disappearance.

Van der Sloot has told several people he was involved in Holloway's disappearance, only to later retract his confessions. He has also admitted in interviews that he is a pathological liar.

Among his explanations, Van der Sloot has claimed that Holloway accidentally fell from a balcony and that he disposed of her body in a swamp. He also told an undercover reporter that she died unexpectedly while they were kissing and he dumped her body in the ocean.

Aruban prosecutors say they lack evidence to charge Van der Sloot.

U.S. law enforcement officials say Van der Sloot extorted $10,000 from Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty, after offering to help find Holloway's body in Aruba, then used the money to travel to Lima.
