E'viLesa confronted Brittany with a Taser in her hand.  She made it known that she had a gun in her car, and threatened the lives of Brittany and other family members, including her 7-month-old great-niece.  (Thanks, Tolerance, for the article.)

We have a step-monster who controlled a sick, disabled 10-year-old 85-lb. child by beating her and locking her in her room all day, and cruelly punishing the child when that pesky missing leg/foot kept her from meeting perfect performance expectations.  A sicko who busted her own hands when she would hit this child.  Let's see... would it be a big stretch to imagine this evil woman, in one of her (perhaps drug-fueled) rages, reaching for that Taser?

This case is sickening.

Northern and All

These photos released to the public of the area, of the tree service with the wood chipper.

I just had a huge " Omg" just now, looking at the photos

http://www.wcnc.com/news/Police-searching--104818544.html?gallery=y&img=3&c=y#gallery-image

If anyone has ever seen the movie " The Lovely Bones" the story of Suzie Salmon.

She was put into a Safe and thrown into the sink hole of the local community dumping area, which was just an open pit that swallowed trash and debris.

This photos remind me of " that sink hole"- this place too it is literally a sink hole = yet nothing sinks, all is shattered, put into piles and then taken away.

To a landfill or a Recycling center - Or is sold over again to be used as Mulch.

Desi~ I think this is one of the worst cases of neglect, abuse, add on every inhumane treatment above and beyond and that is what this is.

This little girl suffered with bone Cancer, she had her leg partially amputated, she lost her hearing to a vicious disease from aggressive medical treatments. For her to survive that ~ and be treated like this.

I have no words.

This was in the comment section of this  article.  Spelling is terrible but does it look that this person is saying that this friend "Sarah" saw Zahra 4 days ago?

http://www.wsoctv.com/news/25368912/detail.html

I was sitting at Taco Bell tonight speaking with my kids over this and a lady who worked there stepped up to us as if she has know us all her life and said that a friend of hers knows the step mother and said the step mother had fessed to the murder of this child. And that the friend had seen this little girl 4 days. Tf I remember correctly the lady said the "friends" name was Sarah. I pray they find this little girl!! No child should ever have to go threw anything of this nature!!! It is no parents right to take the life of their child or any child!!!! We are not God and never should try to play that either! If this is all to be found true.. I hope that step mother and father is put in a room with that little girls pictures all around here till the day she/he they passes and then shehe they can answer to the man above for what she/he/they has done to such an amazing angel from above!!!!! If this angel has passed.. I am thankful she is above and hope she is happier then she ever imagined was possible!!! And I know she has brightened the heavens above with her presents!!!!

i did not know this child personally, however i know some of her close friends and how do you explain to small children that her dad and stepmom killed her and ren her body in the wood chipper, not confirmed but sure is looking like that is what happened. I wish that we could put the 2 of them in the chipper and turn it on, now that is justice. I am sorry but i am not feeling real sorry for dad because how can you know your child is missing for a month and not say any thing come on he is just as guilty for standing by and letting this go on while she was alive seems like her home life was pretty crappy. Now she rest in the arms of Jesus and her parents can burn in...... God bless this little soul!

comment left by Aussie family member:

Zahra's real mother gave her to Adam as she didn't want her when she was a little baby. Adam cared for her without any thoughts to himself. Adam saw Zahra through all her cancer treatments, he couldn't have been a more caring father.  I don't know what has happened to Adam as Elisa turned him against the family as soon as she married Adam in Australia. They then moved to America not to be heard of again by most of his family but his parents have traced his movements at all times but not telling Elisa as it was thought she would move again not to be found.

BUBBLY North Queensland Zahra Baker grew up in the tiny sugarcane township of Giru (population 375), on the Haughton River, 56km southeast of Townsville.

Zahra was a happy, healthy five-year-old, living with her father Adam and grandparents Karen and Tony Baker, when she was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer, leading to loss of hearing in both ears, and the amputation of her lower left leg.

Two years later, she was diagnosed with secondary lung cancer, but 12 months after that, was told she had gone into remission.

One of the first things she did to celebrate was to join about 30 other North Queensland children and their companions on the adventure of a lifetime with Camp Quality in September 2008.

Soldiers from B Squadron, 3rd/4th Cavalry regiment from Townsville's Lavarack Army Barracks, gave up their weekend to escort the children to their camp near Innisfail, three hours north of Townsville, on board Army Bush Master Protected Mobility Vehicles (PMVs).

Zahra's grandmother Karen said at the time that Zahra's eyes lit up when she saw the soldiers waiting to take them to camp.

"Her eyes couldn't have been any bigger. She loves the whole army business," Ms Baker said.

"The picture tells the whole story, she handles everything with a smile. She has been on camp a couple of years ago, but she hadn't been well enough to go again until this year.

"The Camp Quality people are just wonderful."

Camp Quality North Queensland manager Mark McGregor, currently in India as a sports producer for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, said yesterday he was "devastated" to hear of Zahra's disappearance.

"She has been through two major cancer battles, the first one where she had to have a leg amputated, the second one where she battled lung cancer," Mr McGregor said.

"She was the life of any camp we went on - the kids loved her.

"Other kids were so inspired by her enthusiasm and her fight to live against all the odds. On a camp last year with the little kids, she was doing the ropes course on one leg, and I remember the kids saying to her: 'Zahra, how can you do that?'

"And she said 'Because I want to' - and that was just incredible.

"She was the most inspiring kid."

ZAHRA Baker's grandmother Karen Baker and close family friend Kim Wright are devastated by her disappearance.

Both spent many an hour with the bubbly Wagga-born girl in the four years she was growing up in Giru.

Because of her illness, Zahra could not go to school for 12 months, and the local community banded together and raised enough money to buy the Giru State School student a laptop and education programs so she could study at home.

Giru resident Ms Wright met Zahra during one of those fundraising drives and became close friends with both Adam and his daughter, as well as Zahra's grandparents, Tony and Karen.

Ms Wright, who worked with both Adam and Tony at the Invicta Sugar Mill, said it would be hard to find a more determined and positive little girl who refused to let her disabilities stop her doing what every other little girl did growing up in a small country town.

"She was the most determined little girl I have ever met," Ms Wright said.

"She was going to still do everything she could, despite not having her leg or her hearing.

"People say she has had a rough trot, but she never believed that for a second.

"I just want to get on a plane right now and get over there and help look for her - she can't be gone.

"I can only imagine what poor Adam is going through - he really loved her, and there is no way he would ever hurt her."

Zahra was essentially raised from toddlerhood in Giru by her grandmother Karen, who moved to the township in May 2004 from Newcastle with husband Tony.

Three of their four sons - including Adam - followed them north, and also settled in the town.

With her father and grandfather working shifts at the sugar mill, Zahra and her grandmother formed an extremely close bond.

Karen yesterday was in tears over her granddaughter's disappearance and said her son was absolutely devastated.

Mrs Baker begged anyone in her son's hometown in the United States to come forward with information.

"We are just stunned and shocked and so upset about what has happened," she said from her Newcastle home yesterday.

"Adam is obviously very upset, but he is holding up.

"The North Carolina police have been in constant contact, keeping us up-to-date with what is going on, but there is nothing we can do from here - we feel so helpless. We have friends who live over there who work in the trucking industry, and they have got all their mates to put out the alert that Zahra is missing through their CB systems, so hopefully there will be someone who has seen something. We want our darling girl back safe and sound."

pinkangel -- Wow.  Thanks.  Tremendous amount of insight in those posts.

Mom gave her up as a baby/toddler and has not seen her since.  (But then we also have the report quoting the mom as saying she has been looking for her daughter all this time.)

The grown kids followed their parents across the country when their dad moved north for his job.  Zahra would have been around 4 at the time, and was presumably pre-cancer at that time.

Adam and Zahra lived with his parents and his mom Karen was the main caregiver.

Not clear whether there was a woman in the picture, but Adam is said to have seen Zahra through both bouts with cancer and the loss of her leg.

They have family contacts in the U.S. who are in the trucking industry.  Hm.

Married in Australia, then moved to U.S., as we had surmised.

Zahra is/was a truly amazing child.

Burke County Sheriff John McDevitt said Tuesday and Wednesday's intensive search off Hartland Road would last until investigators find what they are looking for or rule out the area. This search represents the fourth day investigators visited the property.

McDevitt said approximately 50 investigators were on scene, watching as a backhoe clears brush.

The land searched belongs to the family of a foreman at the tree trimming company where Zahra's father Adam works. It is an area where mulch, wood chips, and heavy equipment is stored. Bobby Green, a former employee of the company, says Baker would have had access there.

"There’s a lot of places to get rid of somebody over here. I hope not, but this the most cohorted effort that I’ve seen in the search so far," Green said.

Alvin Webb, who lives next door, told NewsChannel 36 a deputy told him a cadaver dog smelled human remains on a mulch pile and on a wood chipper on the property. McDevitt said Tuesday night there have been "many hits" but none that he would call conclusive.

McDevitt confirmed that Adam Baker was on site with investigators. He characterized his behavior as "not exactly cooperative," adding that, in his opinion, Baker is not being truthful.

Since this man is allegedly, not an American citizen, how will this affect him being prosecuted for this case?

Without Diplomatic Immunity, he should be tried as anyone else. I'm not sure if they can impose the death penalty or not, however.

I'm thinking if someone from another country chooses to come to this country to live, then breaks the laws of the land.... they ought to face the consequences, IN this country, just as anyone else living here would do.  I would expect this to happen for any American who moves to another country and breaks the law there.  If the consequence is the death penalty, then so be it, no matter who they are or where they are from.  IMO.

Tibrogargan

I was the one asking for Aussie assistance and clarification of passports for Zahra -- how she was removed from her homeland ..

I have to go back and read your posts yet to fully understand.

Thank You Thank You for your words.

You are welcome Deenie.

Taking a child from it's custodial parent or carer is an offence here and removing it from the country is much worse.

It is very difficult to find information on people here unless they make the news in some way.  I am totally gobsmacked by the information that is available in the USA on individuals.  Nothing like that here as our privacy laws are very strict.

Thanks for all the information. What do you get if you google someones name in Australia. All newspaper articles would show I would imagine. How about obits or if you have someones SS#. Just curious.

If you google someone's name here if they had appeared in the media in some way there would be links to the newspapers and other sites.  Also facebook and myspace links or their personal website if they had one.

If they were just an ordinary person there would be nothing for them.

Obits would only be accessible through the newspaper site in which they appeared but you would have to know date it was published.  The records held by our Births, Deaths and Marriage Registry Offices are slowly becoming available but so far most are not current.

Having someone's SS# or our equivalent and using it to obtain information would be a criminal offence.  Likewise information such as driving licence and car registration records along with any other utilities would not be accessible without permission.  Police of course can access all these as well as banking records where a criminal offence is suspected.

Sleuthing is not easy here
NO Sunshine Laws? Are criminal records, sex offenders, mugshots etc unavailable to the general public? Here I can go onto the county sheriffs web site and see everyone arrested with all their info plus mugshot, charges, bail amount etc. Also same website has all inmate info and sheriff dispatches updated every 15 min.

Accessing criminal records link :

http://www.australian-people-records.com/criminal-records.php

Sex  Offenders :

"In Australia the general Public (YOU) are NOT provided with access to Sex Offender Registries by the Federal or State government/s.."

http://www.mako.org.au/prelist.html

The above websites have been set up to promote more open information shared with the public.

I am not aware of what information you could obtain here by going to local Police Station apart from wanted posters, but naming and showing pictures of people charged with offences are mostly suppressed until sentence has been announced.  Sex offenders and especially in cases of incest are not named to protect the victim.

Investigators search Burke site again

Elisa Baker scheduled to be in court this morning

Credit: ROBERT C. REED / RECORD

By Richard Gould
Published: October 13, 2010
Updated: October 13, 2010 - 6:52 AM

(Excerpt:)

The man who helped Adam Baker, Zahra’s father, get his job working for the tree trimming and lawn maintenance crew was at the scene. Bobby Green said he lived next door to the Bakers in Sawmills and his three children used to go to the Bakers' home to play with Zahra.

Now he thinks the Bakers may have murdered their daughter, and he wonders if he put his children in harm's way by letting them visit the Bakers' home.

He described Zahra's mother, Elisa Baker, as a mean woman who could not be trusted.

"I think she's evil. She lied about everything all the time," he said. "She had a short fuse, especially with Zahra, because she was jealous of the time she spent with her father."

Green said Elisa was physically abusive toward her stepdaughter and suspects she's behind Zahra's disappearance. He added that he suspects that Adam Baker may also be involved in the crime.
(End of excerpt, full story at link.)

Do we know what time she's appearing in court today?

This case is going to set some kind of record for a murdered child who had the highest number of witnesses to the abuse the victim suffered before her death.  We haven't heard from any teachers or doctors yet, have we?  Poor darling.
