Kiesha Abrahams hasn't been seen outside family for three weeks, police say

    * From: AAP
    * August 03, 2010 2:19PM

MISSING Sydney six-year-old Kiesha Abrahams is not believed to have been seen by anyone except her parents for three weeks, police say.

Detective Inspector Russell Oxford of the NSW Police homicide squad said on Tuesday that Kiesha's grandmother saw her on July 7 when the little girl visited her newborn brother in hospital.

He appealed for anyone else who may have seen Kiesha since then to come forward.

"It's important for us to fill that gap,'' Det Insp Oxford told reporters in Mount Druitt, in Sydney's western suburbs, where Kiesha's family live.

"I need to find out something that might have been important in her life - has she been exposed to anybody or has something significant happened in that time?''

Fears have been steadily growing for Kiesha's safety since disappearing from her Woodstock Avenue home.

She was last seen at 9.30pm (AEST) on Saturday when her mother, Kristi Abrahams, put her to bed in pink pyjamas and a purple Pumpkin Patch jacket at the apartment block unit.

She was reported missing on Sunday morning after her mother discovered the empty bed and the front door ajar, although it showed no sign of forced entry.

As the search entered its third day, Ms Abrahams made an emotional appeal for anyone who may have seen her daughter to come forward.

Barely able to speak through her tears, Ms Abrahams described her daughter as "beautiful".

Kiesha's stepfather Robert Smith said the family was going through hell.

He last saw Kiesha when they watched a movie, The Golden Compass, on Saturday night, he said.

"It's been hell'', he said.

"I can't describe how it's been. You don't know until you've been in my shoes.

"It gets harder by the minute.''

Mr Smith described his stepdaughter as "always happy, bubbly''.

"She loved playing, just like any kid would,'' he said.

Rodney Jones, Kiesha's grandfather, said Ms Abrahams believes Kiesha, who loves cats, may have got up in the night to play with one.

"I think someone got her from there,'' he said.

Police are searching northern bushland at Bidwill and were due to resume canvassing the neighbourhood later today.

So far, nothing of any significance has been found.

Det Insp Oxford said police hold a genuine hope that Kiesha is alive and well, and nothing sinister should be read into the involvement on Tuesday of the homicide squad.

"The puzzling part for us is the lack of sightings of the young child,'' he said.

He confirmed Kiesha had not been at school for the past three weeks.

"Unfortunately that's an issue we need to explore,'' he said.

Police are also investigating whether the NSW Department of Community Services or other government agencies were previously involved with the family.

Anyone who has seen Kiesha, described as about 140cm tall with blonde hair and blue eyes, should phone Mount Druitt police station on 9675 0000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Kiesha Abrahams' stepfather hit her in the face, witness claims

    * Police search Kiesha's home again
    * Man "saw Mr Smith whacking her"
    * Psychic "saw vision of Kiesha in bush"

A DRAMATIC second raid was made on the home of missing Sydney girl Kiesha Abrahams yesterday after police received fresh allegations.

The Daily Telegraph reports homicide detectives and a team of forensic police wearing blue jumpsuits arrived at the family home in Woodstock Ave, Hebersham, armed with floor plans for the unit about 3pm.

They emerged carrying internal doors, skirting boards, rolls of carpet, and what appeared to be a child's mattress.

The first police search of the home began on Monday last week and the unit was sealed off as a crime scene until Wednesday.

At the weekend, Keisha's mother Kristi Abrahams and stepfather Robert Smith attended the home to collect fresh clothing.

The pair reported Kiesha, 6, missing on August 1, and said they had last seen her when they put her to bed the previous night.

The couple remain with their newborn son Levi in accommodation at Parramatta organised for them by the Department of Community Services.

Police would not elaborate on what new information they had received, other than to say it was "significant to the case".

Detectives interviewed western Sydney man, Albert Lafaele, after he claimed he saw Mr Smith punching Kiesha outside the Hebersham Friendly Grocer store two or three weeks ago.

"I was shocked. I walked past a white car and I saw this man whacking his child in the face," said Mr Lafaele, who runs weekend markets next to the supermarket.

"The girl was kicking and screaming, so I stopped in front of the car and told the man to hit me instead, which gave Kiesha a chance to jump out of the car."

Mr Lafaele, 46, said he realised the child was Kiesha after seeing her photograph.

"I'll never forget her curly hair and those eyes," he said.

"I know it's taken me a few days to come forward but I wanted to make sure 100 per cent that it was her before I said anything."

Police are still trying to determine the veracity of the report.

Hebersham Friendly Grocer owner Peter said Kristi Abrahams and Robert Smith were regular shoppers at his store.

A psychic has also described to police a vision of Kiesha in bushland behind Amelia Way at Bidwell.

The bush is a dumping spot with couches and old clothes littered throughout the grass.

Kiesha search 'not in vain'

    * Crime

13 Oct 10 @ 03:40pm by Susan Liu

ARMED with prodding sticks, gloves and shovels, they were on a mission to find missing Mt Druitt girl Kiesha Abrahams.

About 12 people met at Arndell Park on Sunday morning before embarking on a footsearch of Prospect Reservoir and Doonside.

Search organiser Jennifer Cole, 24, of Blacktown, said their aim was to raise public awareness about Kiesha, 6, and to keep her case in the media spotlight.

“We’re not just searching for the body,” Mrs Cole said.

“We’re more looking for other items and evidence.

“Some people don’t even know who Kiesha is. People have no clue that she’s missing - they don’t listen to the radio or watch TV.

“Police have advised us that if we do come across anything that looks suspicious, they will come and look at it.”

Although nothing was found that day, Mrs Cole believed their work was not done in vain.

“It’s too close to home. I grew up two streets away (from her Woodstock Ave home) and I always have Kiesha on my mind,” Mrs Cole said.

“There’s something about this little girl. She should be at home,” she said.

While some people have labelled their efforts as “fruitless”, Mrs Cole said they were willing to do anything to keep Kiesha’s spirit alive.

The search team, which organised the event through Facebook, even enlisted the help of three psychics.

Mrs Cole said they were advised to search Prospect Reservoir after a reading by one psychic.

NSW Premier Kristina Keneally has expressed her sympathies when asked by the Mt Druitt-St Marys Standard during a visit to St Marys last week.

“For the community this is a distressing set of circumstances. As a parent and, of course, all of us would like to have this investigation provide a hopeful and happy ending . . . if that is not able to be the case, at least to know what has happened to Kiesha,” she said.

The detective leading the investigation into Kiesha’s disappearance, Det-Insp Russell Oxford, said the search party was indicative of the community’s support for Kiesha and their desire to find her.

“It’s heartening to see that the community still is very interested and concerned about Kiesha’s disappearance,” he said.

“Whilst we haven’t received any specific information in relation to the area they’re searching, we’re certainly not going to discourage people who genuinely want to go out and search in public areas.”

While he said there were no new developments, police would continue to evaluate any new information that came in.

“Our task force is still here at Mt Druitt and they will remain here,” Det-Insp Oxford said.

“I’m not planning on leaving here in the foreseeable future. We have been very committed since day one.”

This is not the first time a community group has searched for Kiesha.

After a search of Nurragingy Reserve in September, Mrs Cole and six other searchers recovered two items they believed were linked to Kiesha.

One of the items was discounted by police and another was confiscated for further investigation.

MISSING KIESHA ABRAHAMS BITTEN AS A TODDLER

The mystery surrounding missing NSW girl Kiesha Abrahams has deepened with claims she suffered a bite wound as a toddler at the hands of an adult.

And as the search for Kiesha enters its fourth day, it has emerged that authorities were concerned about the welfare of the six-year-old and the existence of substance abuse in her family.

A police source told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that Kiesha was admitted to a western Sydney hospital with a "significant bite wound" when she was a toddler.

The wound was allegedly inflicted by an adult.

Other sad details surrounding Kiesha’s life cannot be made public due for legal reasons, the newspaper said.

The claims come a day after Kiesha’s mother Kristi Abrahams wailed at media press conference, pleading for her daughter’s safe return.

Ms Abrahams said she last saw Kiesha after tucking her into bed at home in Hebersham, in western Sydney, about 9.30pm on Saturday.

Kiesha was reported missing on Sunday morning after her mother discovered the empty bed and the front door ajar, although it showed no sign of forced entry.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have seen Kiesha in the last few weeks to come forward, as a special strike force, codenamed Jarocin, was set up to co-ordinate the investigation.

Meanwhile, specialist homicide and sex crimes detectives have joined the hunt for the child.

Police confirmed yesterday that Kiesha's grandmother last saw her on July 7 when the little girl visited her newborn brother Levi in hospital.

It is around this time that family friends last reported sighting the little girl, who has been described as happy, quiet and not given to wandering off.

Anyone who has seen Kiesha, described as about 140cm tall with blonde hair and blue eyes, should phone Mount Druitt police station on (02) 9675 0000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

I saw this little one ..on the BBC news not so long ago.
They showed her photos and a video of her Father...  I don't remember him. I do remember the little girl. This was a site that I found today looking for news on Zahra.

This link is from a AU News site. I put in the search words of " Kiesha Abrahams October 2010"

If you click on it, it will show over 10 pages that came up. I clicked on the pages, they start back from the beginning of her missing. I added the October trying to find the latest news, it did not help with chronological order.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/search.aspx?collection=news&form=News&query=Kiesha%20Abrahams%20october%202010

I thought this link would help others, wanting to know the story of this little baby girl.

Hi Deenie, I'll give it a go.  Kiesha lived with her mum Kristi Abrahams and step dad Robert Smith.  Her mother has 2 children with the step father, a little girl around 2 or 3 and a newborn son who was born around the 7th July, the last day anyone, other than her parents, saw her alive.  Her family come from a low socio economic suburb in Sydney, which is known for a high number of unemployed and drug addicts.  They live in a Public Housing unit, not judging here, just setting the picture.

Kiesha has not had much contact with her biological father since she was a very young age when they split and he did not keep up access visits.  He is a very ill man and had just come out of hospital a few days before she went missing, he'd had an operation on his foot (I think it was) and was on crutches and the police virtually ruled him out at the start of the investigation due to this, though they have said since that no-one has been ruled out entirely.

Her mother and step father raised red flags almost immediately, after it was discovered that no-one besides themselves had seen her since the 7th July and she was reported missing on the 1st August.  She had only been at school for 3 weeks this year, our school year begins at the end of January, though there had been 4 weeks of school holidays in that period and her mum said she kept her home a lot because she was not feeling well towards the end of her pregnancy and couldn't manage to get her off to school.

She was bitten badly enough to be admitted to hospital when she was a toddler and grandmother confirmed that her mother was the person who bit her.  A lot of people, including the police, think that the mother and step father are somehow involved and this is mainly through their odd behaviour since the very first day she was reported missing, I know that is not very fair but after extensive searching by the police and the public, there has not been one sighting of this poor little girl.  I know that is not evidence of their guilt but they don't do themselves any favours by behaving the way they do.  Her mother sticks her finger up at reporters, she scowls all the time and covers her mouth and wears dark sunglasses in most interviews, which doesn't engender sympathy.  From all reports, Kiesha was a quiet, , lovely little girl.

Thank You Nightowl for your words and explanation of what is " known" -you living in the area.

That is important to have a personal perspective in this little girls case.

I do recall now that you have mentioned her " bio Dad" being ill. That is how I saw him on the BBC News. He has blond hair and he was very pale and was sick in the video. He was with his Mother I believe. She was taking care of him, after he got out of the hospital.

The " Human Bite" from MOTHER - alleged ??
Human Bites are very distinguishable by Docs and can cause Death to another person - with Staph infection etc.. I cannot image anyone let alone " A Mother" biting a child.

That alone is so sick and disturbing. In the one video that I posted with the Homicide Detective - He talks about Levi ? Levi is a new baby? A new baby to Kiesha's Mother and Step Father?

The one vid that I posted of the Neighbor coming forth that he witnessed the Step Father beating Kiesha " in a vehicle " before she was known as missing .. ( head spinning)
At the end of the news cast, the News reporter says that Kiesha had a older brother prior to her birth, ( he 18 mos older) - and that he died at 6wks of age from Crib Death?

Has this ever been brought up again? This child prior to Kiesha's Birth?

I have to say, that some people should be "at one point sterilized " so they cannot reproduce - because they give birth just to kill/maim/torture their young.

Not sure if these people fit that " category" quite yet,, but I am leaning on it.

My heart hurts for all these children that have been brought into SM in the last week.

Yes Deenie that is her bio dad, he is blonde, I think his name is Chris and from memory he has Diabetes and this led to the problem with his foot, I have to apologise as I have a crap memory but I'm pretty sure he had a toe amputated.

Her mother was charged but not convicted for the bite.  Levi is the new baby and he is the son of Kristi's mother and step father, as her half sister is their daughter.

There is some doubt about the witness who came forward regarding the sighting of the step father beating Kiesha, as he was also involved in another aspect of the case, where he was Johnny on the spot and tried to sell his story to journalists.

Once the news came out about the crib death of her older brother, the police thoroughly went over all the medical records and said there was nothing suspicious.  "A spokeswoman for the New South Wales Coroner has confirmed there was a coronial investigation into the death of the brother of missing Sydney girl Kiesha Abrahams."

I agree Deenie, some people should never have children and it is heartbreaking the terrible things that some parents do to their children.

Please bring her back to me, says Kiesha's mum

 05 Oct 10 @ 04:40pm by Susan Liu
<excerpt:>

An emotional Ms Abrahams also responded to various rumors about her in the media and on Facebook.

“People don’t see me behind closed doors,” she said of those who accuse her of being a bad mother.

“It’s people who don’t have the guts to say it face-to-face.

“I’m sick of all the lies and the bull***t that’s out there.”

Mr Smith said: “They can’t judge us - how can you judge someone when you don’t know a single thing about them? It’s just wrong.

Ms Abrahams said: “I don’t know what to think. I don’t know what to say ... I don’t know what happened.”

She said she would like to attend a public service for Kiesha, like the candlelight vigil held last week, but she would feel vulnerable and exposed.

“We don’t know what kind of people are out there. I’d love to go,” Ms Abrahams said before breaking down in tears.

“If anyone does know anything, please bring her back.”
