Zahra's stepmom talking as mattress found at landfill

HICKORY, NC (WBTV) - Sources are now confirming that the jailed stepmother of a missing 10-year-old Hickory girl has been cooperating with authorities since Sunday, taken from her cell early Monday and driven to at least two areas that were later searched by officials for clues about the missing girl.
Meanwhile on Tuesday afternoon, a mattress fitting the description of Zahra's was found at the Caldwell County landfill that was searched for 3 days last week.

Police said Tuesday that 42-year-old Elisa Baker was talking with investigators and had been taken this week to a home where she once lived. Hickory Deputy Police Chief Maj. Clyde Deal wouldn't elaborate, but says Baker's lawyer approached police to offer her help.
The mattress discovery was made public late Tuesday afternoon.

Search for Zahra Baker intensifies in Caldwell County  (with video)

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C.  – Hickory police confirmed that they have found a mattress at the Caldwell County landfill that fits the description of one they were looking for in connection with the Zahra Baker disappearance.

Police say they also found DNA evidence on the mattress and will be testing the DNA to see if the mattress is involved with the Zahra Baker investigation.

Meanwhile, over a dozen investigators aided by canine units combed a new search site near Christie Road and Pine Mountain Road.

Evidence markers dot the search site. According to police, those markers don’t necessarily mean evidence has been found at the site, but instead they let investigators know which grids they have searched and which areas they still need to search.

Crews say they will wrap up the search at 5 p.m. due to concerns about wind and rain. Officials say they will secure the scene and return on Wednesday if they don’t find anything by the end of the day Tuesday.

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- Police found a mattress matching the description of one they are looking for in connection with the disappearance of 10-year-old Zahra Baker, law enforcement officials told Channel 9.

Last week, a team of investigators searched a Caldwell County landfill for a mattress belonging to Zahra that had been disposed of by her parents sometime in early October, police said. On Friday, police said that search came up empty.

However, on Tuesday, officials said a mattress found at the landfill matches the description of the one they’re looking for. An employee found it while regrading the area that was searched last week, police said. The mattress will be tested for DNA evidence.

On Tuesday morning, investigators began searching along Christie Road in Caldwell County, blocking off an approximately two-mile stretch of Christie Road. The area is about seven miles away from where investigators searched on Monday.

My guess is they found the mattress at the landfill and are looking for her prosthesis at the Christie Road/ Pine Mountain Road location.

Just a guess though.

Doesn't sound like Zahra was sewn into the mattress~ IF they located the mattress and are still searching.

HUDSON --
Misinformation is circulating that Zahra Baker’s remains were found stuffed in a mattress during today’s search on Christie Road in Hudson.

Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said there is no truth to the rumor. He said investigators have not found Baker’s remains.

A matress was found today at the Caldwell County landfill where investigators have spent several days searching. The mattress contains "This mattress possessed DNA evidence that will be tested in the future to confirm if it is involved with this investigation," according to a Hickory police press release.

Adkins confirmed that Baker’s stepmother Elisa Baker has been cooperating with police and providing them with information through her attorneys, Lisa Dubs and Scott Reilly.

Video from 4 PM today.

So they found the mattress, they must be looking for Zahra's remains then and her leg in those new locations they are searching while Elisa stays in the car.

Any mattress that has been slept in contains DNA, so I don't see the "mattress possessing DNA" as a bombshell.

If that is  "the" mattress I agree with the theory of  whoever said that someone took the mattress to the landfill in the SUV and dumped it.  That explains the dogs hitting on the SUV.  Zahra could have been killed on that mattress.  Still does not explain why her hearing aids were in the house but not her leg.  They kept her hearing aids to pretend she was around?  My brain is really having a hard time absorbing all of this and trying to make sense of it.

They are looking for specific DNA for example: blood, semen, and that kind of stuff.

They were trying to make it look like a kidnapping~ obviously, Zahra couldn't walk out without her leg.

I think they were so busy trying to cover their a$$es, they screwed up and left the hearing aids.

You know, if this IS a rumor, makes you wonder who came up with it.. it's pretty disturbing. If it is true, those parents are just so unbelievably sick and disturbed.

Sounds plausible though very twisted.

I agree.
