HUDSON --
Misinformation is circulating that Zahra Baker’s remains were found stuffed in a mattress during today’s search on Christie Road in Hudson.

Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said there is no truth to the rumor. He said investigators have not found Baker’s remains.

A matress was found today at the Caldwell County landfill where investigators have spent several days searching. The mattress contains "This mattress possessed DNA evidence that will be tested in the future to confirm if it is involved with this investigation," according to a Hickory police press release.

Adkins confirmed that Baker’s stepmother Elisa Baker has been cooperating with police and providing them with information through her attorneys, Lisa Dubs and Scott Reilly.

Any mattress that has been slept in contains DNA, so I don't see the "mattress possessing DNA" as a bombshell.

They are looking for specific DNA for example: blood, semen, and that kind of stuff.

I know that. I am just saying that all mattresses contain DNA.

Unless there is more dna evidence on the mattress (God forbid)  or a lot of blood.

Could it be that Gothmonster asked someone else to dump the mattress and that is why she can not remember where it was dumped?  or is she just enjoying the fresh air and scenery?

I actually think she is talking. I think she is scared for herself, and trying to get a better deal by talking.

She's not getting too much fresh air, as I have read that she has not been getting out of the SUV when they arrive at a location.

JMO.

I have to wonder why she's not getting out of the vehicle. Are the cops not letting her out or is she afraid someone will shoot her if she gets out.
How stoned can u be to not remember where you hid the body of a little girl that you murdered?
I think she's playing games. She knows exactly where Zahra's body is.

The cops aren't letting her out of the vehicle because she is in a secure environment.

We won't know until testing comes back. It may not even be her mattress.
It would give them more evidence that she is dead but it still doesn't help find her.
I just want AB or EB to start talking and let this little angel be laid to rest with dignity.

I'm just not understanding, what is the purpose of taking Elisa out like this if she isn't going directly to where the body is? I guess she doesn't remember, maybe they could take Adam along for the ride, maybe his memory is better.

I know Pink Angel, we all do.  We're all sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for Zahra to be found and some answers as to what happened, who did what to her and why.

We gotta give this these cops alot of credit for their efforts in trying to find Zahra.

I agree. This police department (Hickory) and the surrounding area police that have been assisting the investigation are sure dedicated to finding this little one.

They are being held at the same facility.  Even though EB is in isolation, they may be telling her AB left the country and has left her to face the charges alone, or he may have outted her.  They may be taking her out of the facility to make sure she doesn't catch wind of AB being incarcerated there.

Eb's attorney is working with police, probably the DA.  If she comes up with something, you know they are working a deal.

I"ve seen cops/detectives take people out of jail for the day while working on an investigation, it's no big deal.  It's pretty common.  She isn't getting any special treatment.  LE just wants some answers.

Driving around, asking questions, watching her for reactions. I agree.

She either goes back to the jail for lunch where she has to get frisked and put in a holding cell until the police come back and get her, or they sent her with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a small container of milk.  Smile

Mead court hearing delayed second day due to missing girl case

The attorney for accused murderer Michael Mead caused a judge to postpone a hearing for the second time this week.

Lisa Dubs, a Hickory lawyer, sent a colleague to court in her place Tuesday morning to ask Judge Robert Bell if the change of venue motion could be put off until later this week. The child’s stepmother, Elisa Baker, is now Dubs’ client.

The change of venue argument in the Mead matter was scheduled for Monday. Dubs made an early-morning call to Gaston County Assistant District Attorney Robert Forbes to say she was tied up.

Baker was taken out to three sites on Monday and Tuesday where police conducted searches for 10-year-old Zahra Davis.

Bell agreed to postpone the matter for a day. When Dubs was absent again on Tuesday morning, Forbes pushed for action.

“They were well aware that it was scheduled for Monday,” said Forbes, speaking of Dubs and her co-counsel, Jason White.

Bell acknowledged the time-sensitive case in Hickory and talked with Forbes and White to come up with an acceptable date. Mead stood silently beside White in court.

Bell moved the proceedings to Wednesday morning. He said Dubs should call the assistant district attorney directly if she had any further scheduling conflicts.

Mead, of York County, S.C., faces a death penalty trial for the July 2008 killing of Lucy Johnson, a 31-year-old single mother of two found in her burning house in a subdivision off Lowell-Bethesda Road. An autopsy indicated Johnson, a nurse at Kings Mountain Hospital, was fatally shot in the head before the fire.

The second postponement this week is the latest chapter in an agonizing process, according to a friend of the Johnson family.

District Attorney Locke Bell agreed that the waiting game is not one he likes to play, but he said defense attorneys often cause delays in bringing cases to trial.

None of the delays should change the May 2011 trial date or the outcome, said Locke Bell.

“We’re ready to try the case and we’re anxious to try the case,” he said.

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C.  – Hickory police confirmed that they have seized a mattress found at the Caldwell County landfill that fits the description of one they were looking for in connection with the Zahra Baker disappearance. Police say employees at the landfill discovered the mattress in the area that was searched by officials last week.

Police say they also found DNA evidence on the mattress and will be testing the DNA to see if the mattress is involved with the Zahra Baker investigation.

Meanwhile, over a dozen investigators aided by canine units combed a new search site near Christie Road and Pine Mountain Road.

I am thinking that the judge would really not be happy of Dubs did a 3rd no show for this other trial tomorrow.  Is Dubs driving around with Gothmonster?

(With Video)

HUDSON, N.C. – Search crews looking for Zahra Baker and evidence in her homicide investigation found a mattress Tuesday afternoon at a landfill and are testing it for DNA evidence to see if it is connected to the case.

Baker's stepmother, Elisa Baker, who is charged with obstruction of justice in connection with the girl's disappearance, accompanied search crews to three locations -- Hartland Road, Burns Road and Christie Road in Hudson, the town where Baker attended elementary school two separate times.

Elisa Baker has been in the Catawba County jail under a high bond – now $65,000 – since Oct. 10, the day after Zahra was reported missing. She has admitted to writing a ransom note found during a fire at the family's home.

She was accompanied by Lisa Dubs, a well-known defense attorney in murder cases. Currently, Baker's most serious charge in the case is obstruction of justice.

Christie Road was blocked at both ends from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. while crews, consisting of the FBI, SBI, Hickory police and the Caldwell County sheriff's office, searched an acre of land. Crews recently searched 60 acres in Morganton and authorities say they will continue.

“You start taking ownership in this little girl. We all feel connected to Zahra and we all want to find her. I've got moms and dads out here that are police officers that just decided, 'look let's expand it, we've got some time, just make sure we've not missed anything,'” said B.J. Fore, of the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.

Crews expect to be back out at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Zahra Baker's father, Adam, was arrested Monday on charges unrelated to her disappearance. His bond was set at $7,000.

I seriously doubt she's having a good time sitting in the backseat of a squard car for however many hours on end they are keeping her out there.
