So where did he get the money to bond out?

He only had 7,000 bail. So ten percent of that is 700 bucks. Family I imagine?
You only need 10 percent and a bail bond.

Yeah, but didn't I read he had a secured bond?

They would need the $700 and $6300 worth of collateral. If they own cars, jewelry, etc., they could have used that. And who's to say Mommy didn't have that kind of $$$.

Thanks for all those pictures. I would think that if she was under in that crawl space somebody in the neighborhood would have noticed a horrible odor  This is going to sound really dumb, but if they dug a hole and covered her remains with soil, would there also be a horrible odor, just not as much?

All depends. How deep. What they put the remains in, a bag, a sealed tub (like rubbermaid)

Trying to keep myself straight on all of the locations.  Has it been confirmed that her leg was found at the current Baker home during their search of the yard or in another location?  And if it was another location, how far from the home?  Thank you!

I use hydrated lime in my rabbitry and hog pen to keep down odor. It is also used in outhouses and along road sides and on farms over dead animals to keep the smell down. You can get it at any farm supply store. Gosh, I feel creepy typing this.

Hickory police: Search crews found prosthetic leg

by RAD BERKY & BETH SHAYNE / NewsChannel 36 CNC.com
Posted on October 27, 2010 at 4:49 PM
Updated today at 6:38 PM

HICKORY, N.C. -- Investigators armed with shovels and a backhoe returned to the small house where the search first began for 10-year-old Zahra Baker.

As many as a dozen officers and crime scene technicians roped off the front and back yards of the house.

They began digging near a wood pile just off the driveway, then dug at least two other holes with the backhoe in the back yard. Investigators using rakes carefully combed through the dirt as it was turned over.

At one point the digging stopped and everyone stood back while one investigator retrieved a small object from one of the holes. That item was placed in an evidence bag the size of a grocery bag and was placed in a crime scone van.

During a news conference, Hickory police would only say that they had new information that took them back to the house.

They would not say where the information came from but police have confirmed that Elisa Baker, Zahra's stepmother, is now cooperating in the investigation.

Elisa Baker was arrested on charges unrelated to the 10-year-old's disappearance on Oct. 10. The following day she was charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly writing a fake ransom note to confuse investigators.

The search for Zahra has now gone on for nearly three weeks.

On Tuesday police recovered two items that could be key pieces of evidence.

Crews found prosthetic leg during a search of a wooded area off Christie Road in Caldwell County on Tuesday afternoon. They say they do not know for certain if it was the little girl's and they are working to get a serial number from the manufacturer.

Police say the prosthetic leg was not buried but was found in some brush.

Also on Tuesday, Hickory police confirmed that they had seized a mattress found at the Caldwell County landfill that fits the description of one they were looking for in connection with Zahra's disappearance. Police say employees at the landfill discovered the mattress in the area that was searched by officials last week.

Police say they also found DNA evidence on the mattress and will be testing the DNA to see if the mattress is involved with the Zahra Baker investigation.

Meanwhile, Zahra's father, Adam Baker bonded out of jail on Wednesday.

Mattress found at the landfill.

Prosthetic leg found yesterday at the Christie Road site. (About 14 miles from the home, IIRC.)

Evidence (unknown) gathered at the home today and placed in a crime scene van
