Here is a very simple way for us to help protect our nations children. I do not know if my bottom 2 links will work so you may have to go to Oprah.com and click through the links. Please do this it is such an easy way to help. Also feel free to copy and paste this into your emails to friends.Lets let them know we care.

http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200702/20070221/slide_20070221_284_118.jhtml

Dear Senator:

As your constituent, I am writing this letter to urge you and your colleagues to act swiftly to fully fund the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. The provisions of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act must be funded now so that law enforcement can protect children and communities from the scourge of convicted sex offenders:

I urge you to fully fund all of the mandates within the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. I am particularly concerned about the following:

1. To implement an effective and comprehensive national registry database and website of sex offenders.
2. To build capacity in the federal law enforcement system to enable law enforcement to track and capture noncompliant sex offenders and bring them to justice.
3. To implement a national DNA database so that law enforcement can accurately and promptly verify DNA evidence.

Citizens must have access to accurate and timely information regarding convicted sex offenders living in their community. The 50 states and the federal government must be afforded adequate resources to build and maintain an effective national sex offender database. A national sex offender database is a critical safeguard to protect America’s children and with each passing day that the provisions of this law are not funded, the danger to children is heightened. When information about the identity and whereabouts of convicted sex offenders is not accessible, accurate and verifiable, our communities are at grave risk.

I strongly urge you to act now to fund the mandates passed in the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act so that our children are kept safe from these dangerous predators and law enforcement has the necessary investigative resources.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent request.

Sincerely,

You can find your senators' mailing address by visiting Congress.org.

Or

You can e-mail it directly by copying the letter below into a personal e-mail. Feel free to edit and personalize it! You can find your representatives' e-mail address on Congress.org. Then hit send!

Sam, are you watching BOR? He appears to be fighting this bill tooth and nail????

With the increases in child pornography growing predators at an unprecedented rate, how does BOR have a leg to stand on?

Like you, I'll write my letters and thank you for this link !

To what specifically is BOR objecting? I remember getting some flack about mandating a DNA database recently (in a wholly different context) - but LE has been wanting this for years.

I was wrong !  Embarassed I was cooking dinner and my mother was trying to discuss it while BOR was on and I confused everything !!! When it replayed a short while ago I realized I was wrong !

BOR had Mark Klaas on and was very supportive when discussing Adam's Act which is a relief ! I'm sorry I mislead you msmarples.

None and MSMarple,
I personally do not like BOR but one of the things he said on Oprah that I do agree with is the sentencing of pedophile sex offenders. He said there is no rehabilitation that works. So do not bother providing it just make tougher sentences so it protects the children who are victims or are potential victims.

He used the crime Mrs. Red talked about recently in Vermont where the Judge gave a really lenient sentence to a pedophile who was molesting I believe an 8 year old.

I also am really for a national DNA database.

I agree Sam, how can we afford not to have one? All the leading LE and experts in this crime field have said this is a requirement !

I just have to say this. If some perv cannot or will not refrain from using children, then he/she has forfeited any right to have their DNA private.

Here in the county next to mine they have recently arrested a male second grade teacher for molesting some of his female students. It took them awhile to get around to prosecuting the jerk.

Now it turns out he had also molested students at his previous school and was not prosecuted until now. They finally arrested him today and set his bond at a million dollars I think. If I remember this story right the other school had not given him a good reference. So they knew all this time. I seem to think he was 27 years old. They could have saved these other children from there ordeal.

I'm scratching my head over the reply that I received from Senator Evan Bayh:

Quote
Thank you for contacting me regarding child molesters and the protection of our children.   I appreciate your views and concerns on this important issue. As the future of our society, adults have a responsibility to protect children and nurture their growth. It is important that we take the necessary steps to address the serious problem of sexual child abuse which damages and undermines the healthy development of individuals, families, and communities.

As you may know, combating crime has always been one of my top priorities. As Governor of Indiana, I put more State Troopers on the streets than at any other time in our state's history. To ensure that the public is protected from the most violent offenders, I proposed and signed legislation that increased the penalties for murder and other serious felonies such as rape and molestation. Furthermore, as Governor I introduced " three-strikes " legislation to make sure repeat offenders serve life sentences without parole.

As Governor, I also played a key role in the passage of legislation which established a sex offender registry in Indiana . On March 2, 1994, I signed into law the Sexual Offenders Registry Law, also known as Zachary's Law. This Indiana statute requires individuals convicted of a sexual offense against a child to register with their local law enforcement agency, requires the state of Indiana to publish an updated sex offender registry twice a year, requires law enforcement agencies to provide offender information found on the registry to any individual who seeks it, and requires government and allows private employers to terminate any individual who has been convicted of a sexual offense and works in a setting with access to children.

As you may know, H.R. 4472, the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, was introduced in the House of Representatives on December 8, 2005.  This legislation would implement several measures to protect our children from sex offenders.  These measures include maintaining a National Sex Offender Registry at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and requiring background and fingerprint-based checks of national crime and state child abuse registries prior to approval of foster and adoptive placements.  Finally, this legislation would enhance penalties for using a controlled substance to facilitate a sex offense, violent crimes against minors, sexual offenses against children, conduct relating to child prosecution, and sexual assault.

H.R. 4472 passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote on March 8, 2006. It passed in the Senate on July 20, 2006 and President Bush signed it into law on July 27, 2006.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope the information I have provided to you has been helpful. My website, http://bayh.senate.gov , can provide additional details about legislation and state projects, and you can also sign ‑up to receive my monthly e ‑newsletter, The Bayh Bulletin , by clicking on the link at the top of the my homepage. Setting I value your input and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues important to you.

I got it now. I was urging him to vote for FUNDING the ACT so it can actually be used. Apparently he did not get what I was saying. Guess I'll send the idiot another email.

My reply to his reply:

Quote
Dear Senator,

Given your reply, I fear that you misunderstood the request of my last email re: the Adam Walsh Act. I was well aware that the bill had been passed and signed into law. My request was that FULL FUNDING for the mandates of the Act be provided. Enactment was the first important piece. The Act cannot be useful without funding to carry out its objectives.

The particular mandates about which I am concerned be fully funded are:

Note that I was nice and did not refer to him as "Dear Idiot".  Twisted Evil
