Group Plans Vigil For Zahra's 11th Birthday

HICKORY, N.C. -- An advocacy group is planning a candlelight vigil for Zahra Baker on her 11th birthday.

The Children Protection Council of Catawba County will hold the vigil on Tuesday in Hickory.

Police on Thursday continued to search for clues in the girl's disappearance. In the last month, they have looked at several locations and found the artificial left leg that belonged to Zahra, who lost her own leg to bone cancer. They also have found a bone, which they are testing to see if it belongs to the girl. On Wednesday, searchers found human remains that are now being tested.

Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker, has been charged with obstruction of justice. Police said she admitted writing a bogus ransom note.

Zahra's father, 33-year-old Adam Baker, has arrested been on unrelated charges. He was later released on bond.

So am I reading right??? Did they find zahra?

Sounds like they have found remains (more than just a bone) but not an entire body and they aren't confirming yet that it is Zahra.  It is being tested.

This is so disgusting..how could anyone do such a thing to dismember a corpse..especially a child?  It is just beyond my grasp to see where anyone even comes up with such an idea and then carries it out..on a child they are supposed to love and take care of?
Drive around the countryside desposing of body parts..it is so sick it is hard to even write it..what type of living ghouls do such a thing?

I am not sure about the right to a speedy trial here in NC...They may have to wait to be absolutely sure they have found her (They may already have a good idea it is her just by the size of remains or clothing ) before they charge anyone.  I am sure they want to do it all meticulously so as these sorry sacks of skin don't get off on a technicality.

I hate this waiting game.

Today, several media outlets, citing the Hickory Police Department as a source, claimed the evidence found at the search site consists of "possible human remains." Hickory police, however, deny making any such statements to the press.

"I would like to know where they got it from," Hickory Deputy Chief of Police Clyde Deal told AOL News. "What we have told everybody is exactly what is on the release. ... I don't know if some of these people are assuming and making a leak [or] if somebody is trusting a source for their information outside this police department. [If they are], that probably is not wise journalism."

Deal added, "We are the lead agency, and we are the people who are holding all the evidence and sending the evidence off and getting the results back. We didn't say anything of the sort. ... We have seen it on a couple of news reports as well and have no clue where it came from."

He said he won't know anything more until he gets the results of the testing. "We are confirming that we found evidence that can be valuable, [but] until the lab analyzes the evidence ... we are not going to prematurely release anything on it."

Deal said the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation's lab is closed today. Investigators will have to wait until Friday to speak with officials there.

WOW...well I just heard from Shepard Smith on Foxnews Foxreport that "apparently human remains have been found" and went to Nancy Grace's Facebook pg and it reads "Nancy Grace Breaking news: source: Human remains reportedly found in search for Zahra. Her biological mom reportedly coming to the states"

If this leak is totally premature or wrong, thats just way too irresponsible who leaked it without verification...and why is bio mom coming & just what are her parental rights if any under these circumstances, Im wondering if there is legal documentation that she did or didnt give up parental rights in Australia.   Is she coming for Zahra or a media blist, something doesnt add up with her either, then again certainly not to the magnitude of this evil step mom and most likely dad.

I dont think it will be much longer - rumor or not there has to be a reason why the medical examiner was called on site yesterday.

I made this for Zahra's Birthday. It's early, but I just feel so in need to honor her right now that I'm posting it.  Happy early Birthday, Zahra! From the day of your birth, you had purpose and were loved, even if there were times that no arms held you. Your life that was begun on that day has reached the place where all has been restored and you are living life that we can only imagine. God Bless You, Zahra!

I still believe that they did find human remains.
Why else would they block helicopters, reporters, etc. from coming too close to the site.

Curly - I believe they did too but didn't want it leaked out.  You would think they could tell if it was child or adult bones/remains found but since Zahra was 5'1" (taller than me) the remains could be mistaken for a small adult as well.

Zahra's mother was at the Hickory house early this morning before sunup. She has not come by to view the remains sight.   

No reporters were at the house when the mother visited Zahra's memorial aometime around 6 a.m.

Hickory PD will not say if they have spoken with the mother.
